Stewed apples, cider, yeasty nose. Smells like a Chenin Blanc with wet wool character. Biting acidity set against a rich body with just a touch of residual sugar (perhaps). Bitter lemon notes, amazing length on the palate. A monster Chardonnay which hides its hot vintage well (14.5%). A class act!

Blind tasted. This one had the unfortunate destiny of coming after a Donnhoff Hollenpfad of the same year which made it taste sweet and simplistic. Strong kerosene notes with a creamy, ripe texture. Seems already oxidized and past it!

Again no formal notes taken and perhaps it was served too cold but either way it did not taste like the same wine I drank in the restaurant!! Still very tasty but this was duller and did not have the amplitude. Perhaps a case of Natural wine erratics??

Blind tasted. Discrete nose. Waxy texture, flat body. Mineral and metallic. A hint of gooseberry. Tastes like it is over the Damne Hill! Can't think why this gets so much hype nor costs so much (after I was shown the label of course!)...
  • dead puddle commented:

6/12/19, 1:33 PM - Dagueneau Silex and Mont Damnes are perhaps a shell in a safe box. No big value neither for me. We should try the Pur Sang...

Blind tasting. Hue very dark. Nose perfect, refined, of a pure cherry juice, with an imperceptible oak. Suave mouth, elegant like a pînot and so balanced, so silky, with a hint of tobacco. Tannins imperceptible. Very Long after taste. Mistook for a Clos de la Roche 2009. A kind of perfection. Very humble face to this experience. No rate , neither potential evaluation, I feel like a beginner face to this.

This is still at the start of its drinking window. Ironically the 2008 we tried a month ago ( Papies 96) was a lot more ready.
This 2006 is a touch reserved on the palate, touch tannic on finish. The nose is the highlight at this stage, light smoky, light iron feel , soft red fruits. Elegant as always, bright but just a hit buttoned down for now. For sure an amazing wine in the making for those with patience. 93 for now but watch this space.

Nice nose of Pine apple, Mouth gentle , rounded and alcoholic and finishes on light bitter notes. To late for me, no potential, as most of my region tasters think. Or try a match with prawn flambées..
To expensive for natives who knows, sent for american market.
  • dead puddle commented:

7/28/18, 9:26 AM - Yes I did taste only one, just to check that Bandol rosé has not the potential it prétends. When I meant "alcoholic" it was the impression , not the degree writen on the label. The descending acidity shows the alcohol for me wich makes it rounder.
Thanks for your comment, I'll wait for your next Tempier experience.

Light vomit aromas announced a natural wine with defects. Tart on the palate and volatile esters. Lacks depth but I can see why weird wine lovers would go for it. I am exagerating a little but there was a sensation of gastric reflux. No varietal characteristics. I doubt it was a bad bottle as it had a composite cork. Being a bit of a masochist I drank it all the same....
  • dead puddle commented:

6/26/18, 11:36 AM - Vomit flavors ? Sometimes in thin vintage winemakers bottled even the content of the spittoon to make larger volumes. Some bitterness is needed in flat wines. Another technique for fortifiying....

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has pale lemon-green color, with watery rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with light intensity aromas of citrus fruit of lemon, floral notes of honeysuckle, dairy notes of butter, green fruit of tart apple, stone fruit of peach, mineral notes of steel, herbaceous notes of dry hay. The wine is youthful.
Palate: Dry with high acidity, the wine has medium alcohol, light body and medium intensity flavors of green fruit of tart apple, citrus fruit of lemon, floral notes of honeysuckle, mineral notes of steely, herbaceous notes of hay. The wine has a medium (-) finish.
Conclusion: Good quality Bouzeron with good varietal characters, despite rather light on intensity and fairly simple, but really highlighted the signature elements, with good acidity and freshness, it is an easy-drinking wine with decent concentration and a slightly short finish. It is ready to drink now and not meant for further ageing.

Blind tasting. Decanted 1/2 hour. Dull nose. Burnt rubber & leather - natural style. Spikey acidity, somewhat volatile. Rootbeer. Dark cherries, ripe. I was not overwhelmed but then tasted the next night and this had come around completely and was delicious: rich and round, very new world style, dark cherries, oak but retaining freshness. Still young or needs a very long decant. The best Cab Franc I have tried outside of the Loire - more Napa Valley style. Thanks GG!

Medium golden. Balanced, with beautiful acidity. We get hazelnuts, and some nice earthy hits, but not really any marshmallow, contrary to other notes from a few years below. Nor do we find this to be especially oxidative (if at all) compared to other truly oxidative Jura wines. Instead, we found old-fashioned and complex Chardonnay character. Lovely stuff over four nights.

2011 Donnafugata Passito di Pantelleria Ben Ryé Zibibbo, Muscat

2004 Marcel Deiss Mambourg Alsace Grand Cru White Blend
Don't buy, or sell it on Ebay.
  • dead puddle commented:

I waited too long on this one thinking that given the great vintage and the tannins I remembered on tasting it at the winery it would be a baby. Unfortunately, it is past due. Certainly drinkable if you like your red Burgundies to taste like in Roman times when they preferred wine to water but lacks character, has no structure to speak of and leaves no trace on the palate.

Blind tasting, nose very fine of quince, tangerine, blackcurrant bud, and Lilly of the Valley. A hint of brasilian nuts. Mouth dry, mineral and sharp, with a lot of those Lilly, zest of tangerine skin. An aromatic wine very elegant with a super long aftertaste. Exceptionnal. Not easy to understand for average tasters.
This vintage is sad for Dagueneau’s family : the father died in September during the harvest. So some friends winemakers help to accomplish his job made in the vines earlier.
Thanks Mr Dagueneau for your superclass expression of sauvignon.

Pop up and taste. Dark hue. Nose shy of grenadine. Mouth fresh, vidid, turning to the green side, because of the company of rough tannins. Still some blackberries behind but not enough sweat and round. Unbalance wine, rustic. But not uninteresting. Quite good, according to the CT rating scale.

Tasted side by side with Prieure Lichine of same vintage: both wines were decanted 45 mins before serving. Riper nose than the Bordeaux was no surprise with coffee and darker black/blue fruit. More coffee on the palate with cherries in a rich yet also mineral style. There was a slight creamy flavor which remained on the palate to the finish. Both wines were excellent with duck confit, the Prieure for its freshness and the Phelps for its smoothness. Both should still age gracefully a couple more years but I do not see either getting better for it - the Prieure looks set to hold out a little longer at this point. A fun comparison of Cabernet-dominated blends from the same year but very different terroirs. This shows that with bottle age great Napa and Bordeaux wines can come closer in tasting profile as the Cabernet characteristics start to dominate the individual styles.

What a riposte to some New World sauvignons! Green pepper, hints of chilli with a fresh oyster bouquet on the nose, some sweetness on the palate, honey with a smokey almost fishy notes. I was going to rate this but having read the other notes surely it must be a bad bottle; anyway I am hoping so since I have more! When I removed the capsule there was a lot of green mold so perhaps that will support my theory. A very stinky but complex nose with cod liver oil and white chocolate. On the palate a bloody/ferrous element with pomegranate and poppies. I popped and poured but on the second night it had not improved. However, I did drink some and there is complexity there, just really weird.

Pop and pour. This was delicious from the first sip to the last! Lovely round, ripe, dark fruit and soft oak nose. Incredibly smooth tasting for such a young vintage. Again, round and velvety with wonderful depth of fruit and complimentary oak. Perhaps this is the definition of a seamless Pinot. There is subtle acidity there which keeps it from being too ripe. I was expecting the oak treatment to be overdone as the Chardonnays are but I found only poised balance. Not rich and overripe like some US Pinots - with a tad more acidity I would have blind guessed a top notch Burgundy in a hot year like 2009. Not for the cellar - this is too good right now! 93+

Fairly dark, almost brownish hue. The pungent, complex and deep nose is very distinct, even dessert wine like without really being sweet. The nose has a lot going on, except perhaps the kind of obvious fresh fruit one usually comes across with Alsatian whites. Apricot, raisins, beeswax, honey. Lots of dried fruits really, but there's also some intriguing exotic white fruit and florality. Kinda hard to explain, but it doesn't really remind of any one grape variety. That being said, the nose even makes me think of a white Hermitage I've had in the past, among other things. What an evocative and delicious nose indeed. On the palate the wine feels concentrated, dry and lightweight at the same time. It has the acidity of a good Pinot Gris: it's nowhere close to being palate cleansing but yet you know it's definitely there. The fruit is luscious and pure. The finish is a bit sour, mouthdrying even. I find it unusually hard to pinpoint the exact flavors. However there is definitely plenty of "white" fruit and florality. Lychee, perhaps? There is also a minerally/stony component. The best way to describe the experience is probably by saying that tasting the wine feels like biting a perfectly ripe exotic white fruit. Beautifully balanced with good length. A complex, challenging wine that will probably be fairly long lived. Not one to offer immediate hedonistic pleasure, but definitely a rewarding wine for the patient and curious.
