i thought this 2011 bottle was way past it's prime...but is it?...initial pour was awful medicine taste...you can really taste the concrete vat that they store it in...harsh, bitter, cherry cough syrup...and i'm someone that can eat bitter...but it was so bad i wanted to pour it down the drain...but instead, i left it in the fridge vacuum sealed. surprisingly after more than a week this wine evolved and opened up tonight . i had it vacuumed the entire time...took a little sip every other night and didn't enjoy it. But for some odd reason, tonight tasted totally different. It's still tannic, but i can taste some fruits, cream, complexity and now it tastes like wine. The color is still good. Maybe it needs 3 hours of breathing??

Drank at Johnny's in Schenectady tennis finals shared with team. Asked if it was a cab. Very nice with italian. Good acidity yet bold and fruit driven complex red.

I thought this was really good with a ribeye steak. It's on the sweeter side but maybe thats why it paired well with the steak and potatoes.

Very nice Pinot Noir nose - light fizzy body, dry short finish, nice ruby color. I will buy more. Reminds me of some Oregon pinots.

2nd night: As others have commented on the other site, it's nothing special, but it did hold up well and is enjoyable.

This sucks... tasted like cheap wine, nothing resembling a Pinot. Paired with salmon. I wouldn't recommend.

2nd night: slightly better. Ended up in my ox tail dish with carrots. Poured whole bottle in. Turned out delicious.

I am really impressed with this bottle. On 2nd and 3rd night, Remhoogte is still bold, elegant and silky, bursting with juicy flavors. The mouthfeel is fantastic and no longer as sweet or alcoholic. This is one very pleasant and versatile dark new world full bodied reds that paired well with just about anything -- tasted it with lamb, chicken, cheese ravioli, bbq pork ribs, beef. (I had a lot of leftovers) I read that there's smoke but I don't taste it. Balanced chewy tannins, more fruit than earth.

I went out and bought 4 more bottles.

Hm... strong alcohol.. first pinotage ever.. what is it... taste nothing like Pinot... more like a California blend of cab and merlot...dark brilliant colors , very tannic and oaky and fruits with good silky mouth feel. On the sweeter side..banana raspberry, no acetone...def new world..enjoyable wine.

One of the better young Caymus' i've tasted in the last 7 years. After 1 week, it turned into dark ink. Better the first night. More harsh and less special after a week even though it was vacu vinned.

Really solid wine. Did not expect much for a mass produced wine at this price. First night at italian restaurant (Sergio's) the bottle was too warm (temperature) but it was very impressive - berries bomb, complexity, smooth, oak, character of some age. Couple nights later in the fridge, wow, still really good after tasting another leftover Caymus. More oak came out, jammy jam nose, earth, leather, some subtle funk, strong fruits, more spices and depth and smooth. Will have to get more. I could see why some might complain of too much oak. I can def taste it, but it wasn't unpleasant as there are other elements making it enjoyable.

Better than I expected. Taste like a Pinot. Light pleasant with little or no tannins, dry leathery, smooth velvety mouthfeel. Smells of some sweet raspberry strawberry vanilla cheesecake. Would buy again. Extra chilled for hot summer.
