2011 Clos Solène L'Insolent Paso Robles Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
The Clos Solene "L'Insolent" is normally a Cabernet Sauvignon based wine. However, the 2011 vintage of L'Insolent is a blend of Syrah (45%), Petit Verdot (36%), and Cabernet Franc (19%). Guillaume and Solene Fabre, the proprietors decided to make the 2011 vintage with this blend because the 2011 cabernet sauvignon harvest was not ideal in Paso Robles. Rather than reduce the quality of the wine, they decided on this blend for the 2011 vintage. Personally, I am glad they did as the Syrah based wine was lucious with firm structure. Truly wonderful. I expect the wines will age very nicely. Guillaume and Solene expect to go back to a cabernet sauvignon based L'Insolent in future vintages, depending on the quality of the yield.

Nice bouquet. Expressive flavors of blueberry, blackberry and dark cherry. Nice acidity. Soft tannins. Not sure it will hold for another 10 yrs but should drink nice for another 3-6 yrs.

In tribute to Int'l Grenache Day. Beautiful nose, dark berries, with prominent boysenberries. Juicy, sexy, 30 second finish. Nice Grenache.

Drank this earlier this week while we were in Hermitage. Tasted the 2001, 2004, and 2007 La Chapelle at Paul Jaboulet tasting room (60 euros!!!). They weren't pouring the 2009, so purchased a bottle and opened it to compare vintages and see how the wines have been evolving. '09 has most complexity, but obviously too young to truly appreciate. Candied blueberries, cherries, and a bit of licorice. Nice acidity balances strong tannins.Would like to try again in 1-2 decades. Have pre-ordered 3 btls + mag of 2010 La Chapelle from Dan @ Amazing Grapes. Will not open a bottle for 1-2 decades for sure.

Dark purple, Boysenberry, Blueberry, and Plum flavors with very good tannins and structure. Good balance but still young and will benefit nicely from cellaring a few more years before opening another bottle. Can't wait to open another bottle.

Great nose with black and blue fruit on the palette. Nice tannins with very pleasant 30+ second finish. Opened a bottle a couple years ago and was not nearly as good... maybe was in a dead spot or something. This bottle was excellent. Have a few more bottles, so will open another bottle again in 2-5 years to see how this wine is evolving.

Dan Isenhart from Amazing Grapes brought a bottle for us to taste since we purchased several bottles. Nice dark ruby color. Beautiful, almost intense young black fruit. A bit of mineral and granite flavors. nd shoe polish. Nice tannins suggest wine is definitely young and needs much more cellaring. Will look forward to opening a bottle in 5-10 years.

When I uncorked the bottle, cork showed that bottle got hot at one time with balanced seepage 3/4 of way through cork... thought I was going to cry at first until I saw the classic Nebbiolo red-orange-brick color for this age, and experienced the nose (bottle has been stored in perfect conditions since I purchased it from Dean & Deluca 4+ years ago). I decanted 4+ hours prior to drinking, and nose was beautiful but still a little tight. This is a Classic. Nice structure, with plenty of tannins for drinking in several years. I did not at all regret opening before it's full potential to see how it drank, and how it will evolve. Can't wait to open another bottle in 5-10 years, which may drink perfectly.
