maybe it needs more time to open but I thought it was out of balance, tannins were soft, and the palate was off lacking the dark berries that I usually like. Meh.

Oops! opened way too young and I need to get my prescription updated on my glasses because I thought I opened a 2007. The nose is good and after an hour it opens and after 4 hours is even approachable. Lots of good structure, a little closed and I won't give details yet because who knows in a few years. If you make the same mistake, decanter for 4 hours minimum. There is berries, acids, and a lot of tannins and it could be drinkable in just a few years. It's just way too young.

The cork came out in several pieces and I was surprised that it still smelled and tasted good. There is no raison or cooked notes on the nose and alcohol comes through. It opens quickly and there is some fruit, light hint of chocolate, and berry notes. The tannins are fully resolved and not hint of chewiness on the back end. It's a drink now wine.

The local wine shop found a case and I have been drinking them for everyday use LOL. The wine needs about half an hour to open and when it does, it's a fairly good wine. It was reminiscent of sweet tarts, acidic with deep dark berry flavors and some tannins on the finish. It's not a bad wine at all

Got a glass here now. The cork came out in pieces but the wine is still good. After being open for an hour, the nose is light cherry and hint of floral . The palate is fruit forward with black cherry, cassis , sweet black tea, vanilla and a little oak. The tannins are fully resolved . This wine was stored at 50F so I am thinking it might be at the end of the storage phase and should be drank now based on my experience and those below ; just saying . Happy New Year

I got a glass here now and it’s been open for 2 hours. Don’t even think about trying it for less time in the decanter ! The nose is a little bit of rubber and burnt electric wire and then burns off to yield barnyard . The palate is smooth and silky, fruit forward with both red and black cherry, some hint of green and cola, and soft integrated tannins . Wow, Cos does not disappoint and I strongly suggest you drink this over several hours as this will transmogrify over the evening .

Drinking very good right now. Nose is expressive of dark cherry and that’s recapitulated on the palate with dark chewy tannins , some oak and a nice acidic finish . It lives up to its reputation

Got my allotment and I popped one open to try. The color is dark red to purple and has the appearance of a very youthful wine. The nose is a little too green with fruit bramble. The palate is completely out of balance. It's just way too young or maybe an awful bottle. The finish lacked the chewy tannin structure along with all of the nuance notes typical of QC. I am a huge fan of QC and buy these by the case, but I am concerned so I'll come back in 6 months and see if this changes. I wanted a much more different experience

Got a glass here now and the wine was open for an hour, which it really needed. The nose has a hint of green notes and vanilla. The color is dark purple red and some haziness. The wine still has some structure with barely sweet cranberries and a decent amount of acid with dark black fruit notes. It pops with food but drink it now!

Open and decant, decant and decant. The nose changes from dirty diaper to leather and oak and now it smells good. The color is still youthful. After an hour, it swirls on the palate with dark black cherry, vanilla, oak, and a hint of tobacco and green notes with a nice pleasant finish. Just don’t drink it right away like we did

The nose is maple oatmeal, fresh cut flowers and oak. Opened for an hour and the wine is still fresh and young. It swirls on my palate a little to the sweet side and I get deep ripened blackberry, oak, and a light tannins in the finish with a hint of vanilla. I tasted it side by side with a Margaux and it wasn’t a fair thing to do. This is a great wine, very enjoyable with a lot of dark fruit left that still has time and should be decanted and not quaffed down immediately.

Decanted 3 hours because Sea Smoke is notorious for not being PNP, so here goes. In the decanter you would almost think Cabernet by the color, but in a glass you can see some translucency. The nose is Pinot Noir on steroids; fragrant of sweet flowers and candy store of a textbook PN. As it swirls on the palate I get the softened and sweet cranberry flavors with a touch of vanilla that remind me of high end Oregon wines, but darker and more intense and highly extracted but more Burgundian in style.

Just opened a bottle now and the nose is overwhelming with floral notes of violet and predominant red fruit; the nose is absolutely beautiful! The palate is full of deep, dark fruit vanilla, oak , black cherry and the purity is amazing. It’s in a great place for a 2011, the tannins are almost fully resolved, and the window is wide open for drinking if not at its peak. It’s just stunning but a feminine pure stunner. If Charlize Theron could be a wine, it would be this. This wine softens over time so jump on it in the near future!

Opened Friday night at the Wine Watch happy hour and tried some right away; big mistake. This is going to need a couple hours to decant, but when it does, it opens up to a well structured wine. After an hour, the nose is pronounced leather and very minor green and vanilla notes. The color is still dark and ruby and has some legs and youthful appearance. I get a dark bodied, well structured wine that is not fruit forward but has blackberry, coffee grinds, a tinge of earth, and shows its age elegantly. It could store for longer but it's in a great spot now so why wait.

Opened and decanted. The wine is dark ruby to purple and the nose is chocolate and earth. An initial sip is full of dark chocolate, concentrated blackberry, with cocoa, cassis, and a hint of tobacco. Not a fruit-bomb at all but a very deep, dark merlot that aspires to be so much more and well balanced, too. I strongly recommend this wine

Got a glass here now and it needs time to open; give it an hour and then start with a splash. This merlot comes out dark ruby with a tinge of purple in color. The nose is scented with dark chocolate, cranberry, some raisin, and fresh mushroom. After an hour, the palate is filled with tart raspberry, a light dusting of cocoa, and some hint of tobacco. the fruit is there, but the dark palate is much more prominent, and the finish is nicely tart and the tannins are pretty well integrated. Like everyone else here, I advise that you decant and sip an aliquot until it's ready to drink. It's a very good merlot for the money.

Opened PNP and the wine was delicious but needed time to open. The wine is deep purple and red. It would be a lot better if you give it a couple hours to open. Lots of deep dark fruit, chocolate and oak and a nice long finish. This is the exemplary every day drinking wine. It’s a baby and should be drinking better in the years to come

Opened for several hours and joined friends at NY Prime for a BV dinner. The nose is solid with oak and green notes. The color is deep ruby red and a very youthful wine. As I swirled it, the wine has deep dark berries, cassis, blackberry, toast notes, complex tannins, and I got some acidity that the other folks below didn't. That acidity complemented a steak and creamed spinach. IMHO, for the money, it's a stupid good deal.

The aroma is intoxicating with oak and cassis. The wine swirls on the palate with lots of dark berries, roasted ground coffee, and enough acidity for a nice finish and some chewy tannins. It's a baby that was opened for a few hours, but it was delicious

Bought a bottle based on the comments of prior years and decided to give it a try. Got a glass here now, and the nose is faint with oak and light green notes. I take my first swirl and I am blown away by a $20 bottle of wine, no BS! This merlot is not heavily fruit forward, but the fruit is there with dark plum notes, cassis, ultra ripe blackberry and some blueberry with chocolate that is then followed by a mildly acidic finish. This is not a textbook cheap merlot but aspires to have a higher pedigree and tastes more like a good Napa Cab. If the mouth feel had more dark structure with chewy tannins, I would presume it to be much more expensive Napa or Washington wine. This is a fantastic everyday wine that can be enjoyed alone or with dinner.
Saved a glass for the 2nd night and it was less than stellar so drink it all on the 1st night; just saying.

Wow is how I am going to start my notes. The nose is definitely oak, plummy cassis and minor green notes. On the palate, the wine is totally youthful with plum, blackberry, black cherry, cassis, and some tight astringency. The wine has a nice long finish like chocolate pudding. It’s one of the better wines I have had in quite a while

Well, it appears as though my bottle was better than those below and that’s a good thing. The nose is open and expressive with fresh brewed coffee and some green notes. I opened a bottle tonight and we didn't give it enough time to open and we're all cork dorks. Let it open for a couple hours and then a fragrant nose of oak, maple, and green come through. The palate is cassis, dark cheery, and deep blackberry and a minor amount of cedar and maple. The wine is dark and delicious and has more time to age, but it's amazing now at 17 years old.

I got a glass here now and it was decanted for 2 hours. The nose opened way before the wine and now that funk has cleared off with barnyard, then floral. The palate is going to take a long time to catch up. The palate is smooth, lightly acidic with light red fruit and a decent amount of tannins. I would start drinking at 2 and 4 hours and see how it evolves on the palate. It has some good structure with notes of light red fruit, tannins and hint of tobacco; it's just great.

My last bottle and it opened amazingly after being stored at 50 for 17 years. The color is still very dark red with sediment. The nose is very mild. The palate is black fruit and mild vanilla, pyrazines, earth and resolved tannins. It is great but not getting better so drink it now as I feel this has moved past the top of the rise. It’s great and not getting better

Traded a glass of our wine for this in a restaurant. The wine is deep purple and the color is youthful. The nose after 20 minutes is oak and vanilla. It changed as it opens more so give it some time and don’t quaf it too quickly! It’s a mouthful of wine with sturdy structure and I get ripened blackberry and mild vanilla initially but it keeps changing as it opens more. It’s a very dark fruit forward wine with green notes and minimal sweetness, mild acidity and a luscious finish. Not great with Italian food and I would just drink it by itself because food befuddled the palate

The nose is lightly scented with vanilla oak and the greenness of forest floor. The wine swirls around on the palate with lots of deep dark, blue fruit, cassis, glycerin, dark chocolate, and a hint of black licorice, and a bold mouth full of wine. The finish has a nice amount of acid and still a lot of chewy tannins. It's very good for the QPR, but not great and for the price is a stupid good deal. I think I found a new producer in my favorite part of Bordeaux that may deserve further attention. Let's see what else they come up with

Got a glass here now and the nose is fragrant with dark fruit, flowery, and chocolate bar. The color is dark red and lacks sediment. The wine swirls around on the palate with a decent amount of fruit like black cherry, cassis, and good amount of chocolate. The finish get's lighter as the wine opens longer and there's a minimal amount of acid in the delicate, but short finish. All in all, it's not bad, and if you have a bottle, drink right away as this is in a closing window of opportunity.

This wine is aging nicely. The nose is floral and oak with a hint of vanilla. I have a glass here now and I save it from overnight and the wine is delicious with good dark fruit of extra ripe blackberry, cocoa, cassis, cola, green pepper, tobacco, and oak with a super dark finish! It's an explosion of flavors and I am totally impressed that a 17 year old merlot is still amazing on the 2nd night. I have 2 more bottle left and I wish QC would make Merlot again as this is a full tilt, right bank cabernet drinkers Merlot. If you have some laying around, start drinking it and enjoy.

A bring your best bottle night and Someone brought the title wine. The nose is perfume, oak, and a hint of vanilla. The color is still dark red and opaque. After being opened for 2 hours, the palate is quite sweet! I get sugary blackberry, ripened black cherry, vanilla and a sweet finish. Got a glass here now and the nose is effusive of floral and oak with a hint of menthol. The color is depicting a very young wine that seems to not age quickly. The palate is rich and decadent with sweet blac cherry, light chocolate, and very dark blackberry. The finish is chewy and last about 30 seconds. There is nothing to not like about this wine and it’s got a long way to go. In a line up with Lewis, Quilceda Creek, and Schrader, this wine stood out

Takes a couple hours to open, this wine will go through some changes until it settles into a good place. The nose is oaky, smoky, and hint of vanilla. After 2 hours the palate is dark with cola and a dark cranberry finish. There's a decent amount of acid and some tannins in the finish. Not bad but we'll see how it is later.
Oaky, it still has a lot of life in it and gets better with a 4 hour decant. The nose is light incense with dark cranberry, cola, and chewy tannins, but it's in a place where I feel the window is closing so drink now and decant, decant, decant!

Opened up for Mother’s Day. The nose is intensely floral with some oak. The first sip is strong with a mustiness and a ton of dark fruit, dark chocolate syrup, ascerbic black cherry, earth, sweet raspberry. I am sitting here with a glass ignoring my wife and her lady friend trying to figure this out. As the wine opened, I get black cherry and cocoa and hint of vanilla with a good chewy finish. It popped with Italian food because it has the acidity to cut with the meal. I am totally impressed by Lewis and this is not one of California best year, but this wine is massive and has held up well. Drink now because it’s at the peak and the window is beginning to close . Opened last night at a Cos tasting with wines spanning from 1973 to 2018 and the 1995 was the wine of the evening and was in a dead heat with 1982
The wine was professionally decanted several hours earlier at the Wine Watch and we went through a vertical, Beyond a doubt, the 95 was in a great place, The nose was floral, a little green, and vanilla oak. Inspecting the color and the 95 showed no visible sign of age. The palate was filled with a fresh swirl of dark black cherry, with hints of vanilla, mushroom, tobacco, earth, and pencil lead going down with enough tannins and enough light acidity for a finish that is till tight, but very elegant. This was my #1 Cos of the evening followed by the 1982, 2000, 2005, and 2010. 2009 drank like a good California wine and the 2018 is approachable and I think is the Cos to buy now.
Cos 1995 is in an excellent spot and I strongly recommend you try it if it's in your collection because it's in an amazing place

A group brought in several wines for an informal tasting and this was one of them. The Cab was decanted and open an hour before I got to it and the nose was big, bold, perfumery and intoxicating like opium. The color in the glass is a deep blue purple and presents itself as a very young wine. The palate is even bigger than the nose and is filled with cassis, deep ripe blackberry, mushroom, tobacco, and black cherry. This is a massive mouth full of Cabernet that has had 7 years so far to age. There's an unusual mint tone in the back end that reminds me of the flavor of oregano (without the smell), or maybe a heavy licorice note that lingers in the back of the finish that is agreeable. It's a massive big ass Cab that leaves a lasting memory for sure and stands out from the rest. I consider myself lucky that we had a positive experience because the notes below are concerning and might indicate a lot of bottle variance
