I appreciate your disagreement. That's the beauty of the open forum. I stand by my rating though I no longer remember that bottle. I don't keep the crappy bottles in memory. I assure you that as a 20+ year veteran of the industry, if I score a wine that poorly, it was deserved. Additionally, people tend to forget that the 70-79 range represents "below average to average"...
This wine was below average for me, hence the score. So in my opinion, again everybody has one, this score is well placed and in no way ridiculous as you stated.
Fortunately, with so many hundreds of thousands of wines in the world, there will always be those who like and those who don't. It's the best part of the free market system.

    Cheers and good drinking!

This is a very unique wine. Aromas of anise, cinnamon, and some funk, on the palate it's medium bodied, plummy, and notes of cinnamon, anise and funk continue, the tannins are rustic, gritty and grainy, and rather quiet, but drying nonetheless. For those of you who snub Merlot like I used to...the French know how to bring out the nuance and terroir of it and this wine is a great example of that. Was there a mediocre '10 Bordeaux wine produced? I haven't found one.

Aging beautifully. Plenty more left in the tank!

Another great value cabernet, I MEAN MERLOT, from Washington State. Got careless the first time I wrote the note.

Complete accident here. Meant to pull the 2004 but alas...we robbed the cradle. WAY too young. Hasn't yet developed the usual depth of a Pisoni Estate.

Perfect example of a HORRIBLE transition. NEVER try to drink something like this after an Opus Overture. I usually love this wine and this was clearly unfair. Never underestimate how important the transitions between wines are.
  • BMG Wine commented:

12/20/13, 7:43 PM - $80 vs $20 which was kind of the point...I was trying to be a bit more frugal with the second bottle so the Soos, which is normally one of my favorites, was just unfairly represented. Not meant to be a knock on the Soos in any way. In fact, I really thought the Soos would be a good follow. Oh well, we live and learn.........

Roses leap from the glass! This is beautifully expressive on the nose with dusty cherry and tobacco as well. Dark rich cherry on the palate with earthy tobacco undertones. WAY too young as the best glass was by far the last one at the 2 hour mark. (It had also been decanted for 2 hours.) Let this one sleep a couple more years to see it's true potential.
