Dark inky color, some cedar and earth on the nose, on the palate this is bright and focused with a fine smooth texture. The fruit is vibrant, the tannins are resolved, impeccable balance, a bit weak in the mid palate and a tad monolithic but still delicious. The finish is good.

Stewed, oxidized, down the drain it goes. Sad because this has been taking space in my cellar for 15 or so years.

With duck confit, roasted potatoes and green beans.
Pale ruby color, on the nose this is definitely feral and earthy, our friends who were visiting found it charred and smoky but I don't notice that at all. On the palate, this is fully resolved, mature, complex and clean, the fruit is delicious, the wine shows fine structure and stands up well to the rustic food. Good finish. My last bottle and Rousseau prices are now out of sight so I doubt I'll ever taste wines like these again.

Gorgeous perfume of tropical fruits but fading on the palate. Not a lot of depth and the finish is short and weak. A bit disappointing. I like the producer and his 2016 is excellent.

We had this with sauteed chicken and rice,
This did take about half an hour to open, really harsh and unfriendly at first, but then and with food it was wonderful. Smooth tannins, good purple fruit, a bit sweet but with decent structure and a good bright finish. Will age and improve but really nice now.

From a magnum with prime rib and baked potato, color is light purple with a little bricking on the edges, nose is not existent (probably me and my flawed aging senses), on the palate, a sweet attack then some decent layers of fruit, berries and cherries. Should be a bit better but I think age has caught up with it and it was probably better 4-5 years ago. Still the balance and structure make up for some of the fading fruit.

With a pot de creme, to end a fabulous dinner. Color is burnt orange, nose is caramel, I expected to hate this but it was splendid. Sweet yes, but also good acidity, and balance, not heavy at all, label says California semillon with 7% alcohol and that explains the lightness. A long finish and I did go for a second pour.

Glenn's note made me want to open a 1994, this was held since release, always stored in temperature controlled cellar and moved only four times since purchased.
Dark inky color with just a little bricking, nose a bit subdued of cedar and earth (that's probably me and my failing olfactory senses), on the palate the fruit is delicious on the front, the tannins are smooth, the structure is fine, not a lot of complexity, long finish. This is really as good as any 1994 I've tasted. Will not improve much more and hopefully will last another decade or so.

How can one mess up in such a good year? This is deep yellow, the nose is subdued, the fruit is very faint, the palate is diluted, the acidity is nonexistent. I've had more intensity in a glass of nonfat milk. Avoid.
And no, it shows no signs of premature oxidation

Terra Cotta color, a little earth and cedar on the nose, but a lot of VA as well, lingering acidity makes it unpleasant at first but it then opens up nicely with some good complexity. However it doesn't last long as the fruit is fading and the wine falls apart eventually. A fascinating progression in about 45 minutes, this bottle should have probably been opened fifteen years ago.

Terra Cota colored so bricking all over, on the nose it is all leather and tea aromas. Tasting it is exactly what I expect from an old claret; resolved tannins, earthy, smooth, sweet on the finish, not a great structure and it ends rather abruptly, no point in holding five more years on this one.

From magnum with rack of lamb.
Label says 100% Merlot. Dark inky almost black color, classic nose of earth and black fruit, this was surprisingly good, maybe I have been too influenced by the "burnt" reputation of the vintage, I thought for sure it would be stewy, but this was complex and very classy with good fruit, earthy, sound structure and a long finish.

Best wine of the evening for me, with dark fruit, very expressive nose, earthy and well balanced. Punches way above its weight. This is better than any Cotes du Rhone I've had. A wine to buy by the case.

Nice vibrant color, nose of earth, cedar, tobacco. On the palate, it's cool and restrained. I like it but the structure is lacking, it's a bit light on the mid and ends abruptly.

Light purple color, explosive nose of violets. Is this a Chateauneuf? Served blind, I would never have guessed, but the purity, elegance, vibrancy of this wine makes it so special. It is paradoxical, though; complex yet light, elegant but still a Grenache based Southern Rhone, The finish is long and haunting. I've cellared this since release and it is ready to drink.
One of my favorites this year and definitely my favorite Chateauneuf du Pape ever.

Nose of violets (duh!) light color, elegant and bright, with a good core of fruit, stands up to a beefy ribeye. Finish goes on and on. I'm not a fan of Ceretto usually finding them a bit manufactured but this was delicious and yes, quite ready.

I was in a French bistro mood so with homemade steak au poivre, mashed potatoes, creamy mushrooms and kale we opened the 2010 Chateau du Tertre.

It seems that every 2010 Bordeaux I open is ready to play, this one had a vibrant purple color, subdued nose (that's me for every wine I drink now, I should stop mentioning nose), and on the palate smooth tannins, good core of dark fruit, earthy and full bodied. Great with the rich food, good balance but a bit lacking in the mid and the finish could be a tad longer but I really loved it. 93

At a steakhouse in Tel Aviv. Dark bright color, classy though subdued (that may be due to my diminishing sense of smell) nose of earth and blackberries. On the palate, good balance of fruit and acidity, all quite seamless with a finish that just keeps going. Lovely

Will the 1999 Burgundies ever be ready to drink? The nose is muted but with constant coaxing and swirling, it reveals after a while some earth and cherries. The color is dark with no bricking. On the palate the tannins are dry but one could sense the excellent fruit. A pity to open now, but how much patience can one have with the 1999? It will maybe take another decade or two before these are ready to drink.

Nose of earth and leather, the color is still deep purple with a little bricking on the rim. On the palate, it is completely resolved with a refined and elegant texture, good fruit still very much on the forefront. This is a classic Unico - elegant, refined, concentrated and delicious. A treat to drink. Just sublime.

Nose of textbook Giacosa dark cherries and herbs, color is purple, the tannins are still dusty but the backbone is there with excellent core of fruit - especially cherries. The wine, while delicious still is in its infancy. It will develop for decades to go still. Feel free to open and enjoy but this will be even better in a decade or two.

Amazing nose of blossoms, hard to think of any red wine I've had in the past with such a flowery nose. It is deep vibrant purple with an elegant texture and refined tannins. It just felt a tad diluted and I wish it was a little more concentrated (not extracted, concentrated). It loses a little because of that dilution but gets two points bump on the nose alone.

Classic nose of earth, cedar but also of black fruit. Vibrant bright dark color, no bricking to speak of. On the palate, what strikes is the wine elegance and balance with great core of fruits but a refine texture and a great finish. One of the best 2000 Bordeaux I've had. This would last a long time still but to me it is delicious right now.

Good nose of earth and flowers, dark red, quite earthy with some dusty tannins still lurking. Structure is good, and wine has good backbone, having it with snapper was probably not the best idea I had this week. I liked it but there are better Volnays around.

From my cellar and purchased about six years ago. Nose is very perfumed and jumps straight out with floral notes of violets. Color is lightish red, on the palate the wine is elegant, earthy, vibrant and has good structure and acidity. A long finish and a delicious bottle.

OK, what's happening here? Great producer, renown vineyard, widely acclaimed year and yet this is weird. The color is pretty dark, the nose is feral, closer to a rustic Gevry Chambertin than a Volnay, on the palate I can sense some fruit but this is totally disjointed. Cherries are clashing with earthiness, there's no finesse, no elegance, no joy. I have had better 2007 d'Angerville Champans, heck, I have had more elegant Sonoma Pinot Noir. Is this the reward we're getting for storing these 1999s for so long? Were we sold a pup?
Oh, and as far as provenance, I've had this since release

From magnum at Keens Steak House. Better than the mediocre steak; good dark color, nose of earth and cassis, good core of fruit, Cabernet Sauvignon stands out, some dusty tannins but good balance and structure overall. Medium finish. Not bad but not overly exciting. I guess this will get much better in time as the fruit comes out more but this wine is now dormant.

With some spring vegetable ragout, smashed potatoes, and a small pan-seared strip steak.

Opened, decanted and had a glass.
Purple color, jammy nose, on the palate it is ripe and concentrated with some tannins but there is enough acidity to balance the fruit. Cassis and not a lot of earth, not a whole lot of structure either and the finish is weak but we nonetheless finished the bottle and enjoyed it with the steak.

I crashed shortly after with a massive headache from the 14.50 % alcohol but that's just me, I find that lately I have a much smaller tolerance for alcohol than I used to.

Nice nose, good structure, still a bit tannic but a pleasure to drink right now. The structure is great as is every Burgundy from 2005 I've drank. I find that Potel's Volnays are extremely friendly and seductive.

Gorgeous perfumed nose of violets and cherries, on the palate, this is elegant and seamless with a lovely texture and nice acidity. One of the rare 99 Burgs that already delivers pleasure. Food pairing was not the greatest as we ordered Lebanese food on a snowy night but the wine was great before and after the food.

Cork crumbled and needed decanting (with a filter), the wine is pale ruby with a little bricking at the rim, wonderful aroma of earth and berries. On the palate, it is a smooth, fully resolved wine with lots of secondary and tertiary layers of flavor. Complexity, balance, fruit and structure with a long finish. I just love California wines from the seventies

Beautiful vibrant ruby color, clean nose of pinot berries (whatever those are). On the palate, the tannins still linger but the wine is complex and layered, it is razor sharp in its focus and has the usual Musigny elegance. The finish is long. This wine will improve over the next two decades, a shame to open it now.

This comes out all guns blazing! Shiny dark impenetrable color, strong nose of alcohol. This frankly could be anything- Syrah, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Malbec. When the product is so manipulated who cares what it is as long as it tastes of sweet concentrated fruit. No balance or complexity, it calms down a little after about 20 minutes or so but still a lot of alcohol and heat on the finish. Not my type but hey, whatever floats your boat.

A very dark almost black color, nose is very fruity and elegant, the balance is there, the fruit is there, the finish is nice and long, but the wine is a little monolithic and doesn't do much for me.
