Delicious but still the same 93 as 2018. An interesting Zin blend that is a pleasure to drink, it went especially well with fettuccine Alfredo.

4/9/22 last bottle... same review and score, they were a pleasure to drink. Unfortunately, LC can no longer ship to NJ (the most corrupt state in the Union) so we'll be drinking down our stock of their wines :(

Lovely. In very spot at this point in time.

This heavy wine has collapsed - or this bottle has varied - in dramatic fashion in the two years since I tasted this last (6/18 - 94 points). More yellow in color ("golden" to the poetically inclined) and full in body, the wine offers notes of lemon curd, butterscotch, and almond. The flavors are similarly thick, with notes of orange marmalade, vanilla bean, and maple caramel, with a viscous and thick finish. Whatever salinity and freshness this had two years ago... is long gone. 14.1% alcohol. Drink yesterday.

On the cola, savory, "slightly heavy" side of C-noirs. Still not a total write off. The smokey oakey tinged fruit tastes smooth. If it had ANY hint of acid it might be an interesting food wine, but as such its strictly a back yard socially distanced BBQ wine. Purchased at a local Northern California Costco cheap (under $10!). Serve chilled for best results.

Recent reviews scoring this wine in the 93-95 range are either CRAZY (what was he smoking?!) or just a shill trying to boost the "average" rating. The brand is a "value priced" offering by Sebastiani. If you like the Wagner's (of Caymus overextracted fame) Meomi version of C-noir you will like this, (probably at a lower price).
  • Minnesota commented:

I adore the La Proportion Doree wine from Morlet, so figured I would give this Sauv Blanc a run, despite obviously not having the Semillon component. Apparently this is made for restaurants but with most of them not buying much wine due to Covid shutdowns, they went DTC.

Nose of lemon curd, melon and other various tropical fruits to go along with crushed rock. Displays that perfect soft, round and silky morlet texture with high levels of acidity and freshness. Gets a tad linear through the mid palate and dives deep into minerality and stone-like flavors. Finishes long and with some bite. This actually can use some air, so decant it if drinking now. Doesn't quite get the depth, complexity or overall sophistication of it's older sibling, but that is to be expected.

SO'd for 2 hrs, med. gold, pineapple & vanilla on the nose with creamy pineapple on the palate; outstanding, drink or hold. It reminds me of PM's L'Apres Midi

Sine Qua Non dinner (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Incredibly youthful nose displaying crushed blackberry, blackberry jam, crushed pepper, smoke, baking spices and earth. Excellent concentration, nicely layered black fruit, silky and polished, good acidity, nicely integrated tannins and a long jammy black fruit driven finish. Although big and ripe, showing the nice Syrah typicity. Once again, not as opulent as the EBAS.

Undrinkable. Yet another Turley cooking wine.
  • Minnesota commented:

12/15/15, 6:35 AM - Flawed, unpleasant both on the nose and palate. Used for braising lamb.

  • Minnesota commented:

4/7/18, 1:29 PM - It's goes well cooked with meats. I think we simply no longer like Turley Zins. Just have 10s and 11s left, and we're swapping those out with a wine merchant for every day wines.

We did just open a 2006 Hayne PS and it's drinking like a well-aged California Syrah.

One of the best Zinfandel I have ever tasted and I have tasted Turleys production for 22 years and others. Great balance grip, acid, fruit, texture and all in equilibrium. Amazing vineyard, winery and balance.
  • Minnesota commented:

1/10/18, 8:01 AM - We concur. Around this house Tuesdays became Terrible Turley Tuesday as we drink through '00s vintages of overoaked, tannic duds or raisin bombs. Shockingly balanced zinfandel, pre-in-your-face Robert Parker style.

I started with smell. Is it celery? No it's green olives. My wife agrees.

I'm on my second glass. I don't want to downplay the complexity, but to me I'm enjoying the best green olive I've ever had.
  • Minnesota commented:

11/3/17, 6:44 PM - The wife has caught up. Her take is kalamata olive, whitefish and lemon and some herb. Totally agree.

Now that she puts it that way I'll share one of my initial olfactory senses was midwest shrimp salad (canned shrimp, celery, olives).

What more could you ask for in a 15-year-old American pinot noir? Perfectly balanced despite 14.8% alcohol. Nose more nuanced using Sommelier series Riedel while deeper depth of flavor sipped from Riedel Veritas New World glass. Lovely, lovely with potential to hold for many more years.

Update:

My very lovely spouse took the wrong year out of cellar tracker. I concur with her notes. The vintage was 2001 rather than 2006. Are we not fortunate?
  • Minnesota commented:

10/4/16, 4:56 PM - Thanks. See my revisions to my spouses' review.

Wow. Had this over two nights and it's spectacular juice for the money. The label says "Red Wine" and so I assume Mr. Tensley blended the Syrah with the Grenache (unlike previous years?) to create a terrific QPR G-S-no-M red. Wonderful aromatics hint at the blueberry-raspberry coffee-laced compote that follows; full-throttled, but not nearly late-harvested or off-balance thanks to the acidity. This is sometimes considered the second label of Tensley and, if so, the other 2014 bottlings will be stupendous. I imagine the Colson Canyon will garner 95+ points from a certain famous reviewer and actually live up to the billing. This is simply fabulous stuff for the money and I plan to pick up a second case.
  • Minnesota commented:

4/9/16, 8:43 AM - I bought two cases on instinct and am just now adding this to inventory. It sounds like I made a wise decision. This was purchased for weeknight enjoyment but now I can't wait until 5:00 to taste this.

  • Minnesota commented:

4/9/16, 3:35 PM - It's pretty nice for the price, actually very nice for the price. I work in the Prior Lake area. Is your brother wondering where to shop for wine, wine bars, etc.?

  • Minnesota commented:

5/7/16, 3:27 PM - I have 2011, 2013 and 2014 Colson Canyon on hand. I believe I bought a large quantity of the 2012 (perhaps a case) and drank it while in temporary housing (selling a house and building one seventy miles away). I recall reading the reviews while drinking the last glass and thinking, yes what a good wine.

We have roughly 200 bottles of Rochioli wines downstairs and recently purchased the Ranch Red. I agree with the other comments about it being grapey on the nose (just about concord grapey) though don't feel it falls flat in the mouth. It does, however, not taste like a Rochioli. If I were to guess what it was I'd guess a handfull of Dry Creek producers or even Hop Kiln.
  • Minnesota commented:

11/24/11, 8:35 AM - Last night we had enjoyed a bottle of 2005 Martinelli Moonshine Ranch Pinot ahead of dinner, then followed up with another Rochioli Ranch Red. They truly should have sold these grapes off to Cameron Hughes.
