Decanted 90 minutes. After a few swirls notes of sweetened black cherry, cola, and hoisin emerged. Medium weight with blue/black berries and resin in the mouth. Just a tad bit over into port-like territory. A bit too round and a bit too hot for my tastes. May wait on my other bottle for 3-5 more years to see if things calm down. Very consistent with other '07 CdPs I've had over the years. Add a point or two if you like the big, brawny style.

1/3/22, 10:35 PM - Most of the 07s I've had suffer from that syrupy, overwrought style. I bought heavy into that vintage upon release and ended up auctioning off three cases or so last year. I held some VTs and Pegau just in case but I'm not terribly optimistic. I find the off-vintages tend to have the leaner, earthier style I prefer.

What a disappointment. Pruney syrup that was more or less undrinkable. Got worse after an hour in the decanter. We sacrificed it to the drain god. Other reviewers have noted similar problems with this wine. I have four more and hoping for better luck on our next go.

Decanted two hours and evolved nicely over that time. Dark red cherry, cherry wood, library leather, and green leaves on the nose. Bright red berries in a still-assertive tannic structure in the mouth. Drank more balanced than I expected given the hot vintage. Hoping for more nuanced secondary characteristics with a bit more bottle age. Fine to drink now if you like things on the primary side. More will require patience. Great pairing with braised lamb stew, which rounded-out the structure in a harmonious way.

3/17/19, 10:20 PM - Don't have any more. We drank it over two hours after the two-hour decant and it didn't develop much while we were drinking. Good idea, though, which I may try with some other '03s.
