Light ruby colour with sappy red cherry and fresh redcurrants. Medium body with good acidity but quite a bit of drying tannic grip on the finish which makes it difficult to enjoy without food. Needs a bit more time.
White
Rose petal and Turkish Delight nose with medium body and bright acidity makes it light on its feet. Lychee, floral and spicy. Great value from Tesco at £10.

Pale straw with a nose of lime and white stone fruits. The palate offers something similiar. A simple, undemanding wine.

Lemon colour. Nose of apricot and lemon which follows through on the palate. It’s very ripe but lacks the zip to balance it. Not for me.

2014 Encosta da Quinta Humus Vinho Regional Lisboa White Blend (view label images)
Ruby colour with a clean but very much organic nose which is fully mature. It’s got pickled veg and red fruit and a palate of redcurrant and raspberry fruit with a sappy and slightly drying finish. Light to medium body and only 12% ABV. Unmistakably Portuguese and organic. I liked it.
White
Very pale straw with a mineral, flinty, lemon nose with a pronounced struck match. The palate has bright acidity with sharp lemon flavours which sets the mouth watering as soon as it’s swallowed. Despite the brightness of this wine there’s also a good, medium body to it which seems to have a lees note.
Red
A Beaujolais made from grapes of old vines. Juicy raspberry aromas and flavours and light to medium body with lots of fruit but lots of freshness too. Easy drinker for parties or a light lunch.

Ruby with an inviting nose of red fruits, leather, cigar box, tobacco. The palate has sour red cherry and raspberry juice, grape pips. It is a little austere and dried out which is disappointing given what the nose offered up.
Red
Rioe sweet black and blue fruits if blackcurrant, blackberry, cooked damsons, cedar spice. The palate is concentrated, thick and textured, coating the mouth with ripe fruit but with a good acidity and gentle tannins to provide the balance. Moreish and great value.

Red
Ruby and relatively translucent. Nose has redcurrant and red cherry which follows through on the sappy palate with redcurrant, raspberry and cherry with a dash of black pepper.
White - Off-dry
Consistent with the last bottle I had of this wine. Golden, amber colour with a ripe red apple, honey and a whiff of kerosene. Enjoyed this with an Asian prawn dish which had honey, ginger and a bit of chilli in it and this really went well. The palate is long, medium sweet apples and peach and a honeyed with a hint of spice. Better than I recall so a better score.
White
Already pale gold colour suggesting it’s older than it is. Nose is muted despite perfect 12-13c temperature but the palate makes up for these shortcomings. It’s mineral and stony with white stone fruits being the dominant flavour but with a big kick of lime and a bit of oak spice on the finish.

Raspberry and redcurrant aromas which follows through in the fresh, sappy red fruit palate. Light to medium body with a crunchy finish.

A blend of Kekfrankos, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Kardaka and Cabernet Sauvignon. Redcurrant and rosehip aromas and sappy, bright red fruits flavours too. Light and fresh on the palate, belying its 14% ABV.

Needs decanting, throws a heavy sediment. Dark berry fruits and burning embers and smokiness. The palate has tremendous depth of flavour, sweetness but not too much and with bitter, dark chocolate, liquorice, blackberry and black cherry flavours. Lots of grip and great balance on this very long finish. Brilliant and amazing value at £16. This has years ahead of it.

Bought by my brother for me this Xmas. Muted red cherry and sun baked earth with an earhy palate of dusty red cherry and sappy freshness. Had this wine many times before and it’s still got life in it.

Tawny colour with a nose pickled red cherry and red cabbage. The palate is medium bodied, pretty light and elegant with red cherry, balsamic, black olive, forest floor and with a bit of grip on the finish. Fading, but still beautiful.

Red cherry and strawberry with a bit of brett too. The palate is sour red fruit and a little drying on the finish. I like my Beaujolais but this one isn’t for me.

Plum and damson. The palate is a little green, herbaceous with some plum and balckberry fruit but it's pretty dried out and passed its best.

Tasted this blind and correctly guessed this as NZ Sauvignon Blanc. The nose and palate shout that with an expressive nose of gooseberry, lime, lemon and blackcurrant leaf and a ripe citrus flavour but with a nice smack of acidity to balance it. £10 a bottle but on offer £7.50 so really good for that price.

White gold colour. A clean nose of white stone fruits with mineral notes. The palate has a wonderful round texture of stone fruits, water melon with gravel, rock and chalky minerality coming through on the finish. Bone dry and moreish. A mere 12% ABV and super value from the Wine Society at about £14 when i bought it in 2021.

Ruby core with brick rim. Nose of black fruits but overwhelmingly its savoury with black tapenade, dried earth, dried leaves and floral notes too. The palate is gorgeous with blackberry fruit still present but with a cornucopia of umami, olive, bbq meats and long, balanced finish. This is certainly fully mature but enough fruit to keep going a little longer.

Decanted for an hour. This has a bit of cork taint unfortunately and then underneath that there’s some blackcurrant fruit. The palate is good, rich and generous with blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry, but the finish is rather spoiled by the cork taint. Still drinkable but not as good as previous bottles.

Deep golden colour with sweet, candied orange with plenty of acidity to offer balance.

There’s not many wines I dislike but this is one of them. Deep colour with a viscous texture like a PX. Sweet confected, spirity, with pronounced hazelnut aromas. The palate is very sweet, bitter chocolate and gloopy, without the acidity that great sweet wines have to balance all that sugar.

Pale lemon with very little spritz on the eye. Nose is pronounced lemon and lime and hint of apple. To taste, it’s got lemon zest and a distinctive sweet and sour combination, much like a lemon meringue or limoncello. Unusual, given this is a champagne blend of Chardonnay 51%, Pinot Noir 41% and the rest Pinot Meunièr.

Pale straw with tiny bubbles on the rim of the wine. Nose is fresh and clean with lemon and grapefruit citrus and crab apple. The palate is fresh and crisp and light with bracing acidity and lovey grapefruit flavours. Moreish and mouthwatering which makes me want more. Made from the Feteascǎ Regalǎ, an obscure grape one but has made this delicious wine.
