Dusty red cherry aromas. The palate is light and refreshing at cellar temperature with red cherry flavours, bright acidity and with enough substance to make it very good rather than average.

Deep ruby, still youthful on the eye. Nose of blackberry, Victoria plum. The palate still has ripe blackberry and blackcurrant, plums, spices, some earthy, dried leaf notes too. Meduium body, tannins still present with life left in it.

Pale with aromas of candied apple which follows on the palate with Honeydew melon and a bit of clove on the finish. Refreshing, lighter style of Pinot Blanc and enjoyable for that.

Deep ruby, muted nose with smooth, spicy sweet blackcurrant fruit on the palate. A simple wine which gives little from the nose and with very little concentration on the palate.

Blend of Trincadeira, Aragonez and Syrah. Deep ruby colour, pronounced nose of women’s fragrance, flowers, plums and blueberry. The palate offers up blueberry, plums, spice, pepper, with a medium body and a glossy mouthfeel. Excellent, on offer at Contintente Portugal at €3!

Purple with dusty plum and blackcurrant aromas. Medium body with sweet black fruit, oak spice, black pepper and with dusty, slightly drying tannins on the finish. Decent, especially when an offer at €3.49 a bottle

Ruby with sweet blackcurrant fruit, a hint of polish. The palate delivers blackcurrant fruit with black olive, spice, lots of acidity. Fresh, young style, medium body, decent finish.
White
Glad to say this is a good one. Pale gold, aromas of baked apple, clove, nougat and hazelnut. The palate is rich, complex flavours of apple, spice, lemon zest, hazelnut and nougat. Good intensity, quite long.

Ruby with red fruit aromas, some dustiness and garrigue. The palate has medium body with sweet raspberry and blackberry fruit and their pips which gives it a slightly green, crunchy finish, which I like.
White - Fortified
Pale lemon, aromas are soft, nutty, lemon, yeast but quite muted, although this was tasted straight from the fridge. The palate has lovely saline, yeasty flavours with a hazelnut flavours too. The fruit is zippy with lemon and lime with plenty of acidity. Not too intense which some fino’s can be.
White
Pale lemon, smoky, struck match, lime aromas which follows through on the palate with some pear fruit. Mid weight, good intensity, certainly more personality than your average Italian PG. 👍

2014 Fleur de Clinet Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Decanted for two hours and tasted blind. Bright ruby but already showing signs of some age through its thin garnet rim. Nose of red and black fruit, plum, flowers, violets, graphite and, with a little time in the glass, milk chocolate and caramel. To taste the wine of an intense mid palate of black fruits, integrated tannins still present as you'd expect from a wine of this age. Acidity a little too bracing for my liking which upset the balance a bit. Good but three wines that were ahead of it on the night.

2012 Château Côte de Baleau St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Deep ruby core with plummy fruit and pronounced eucalyptus, mint plus oak spice and cedar. Intense blackcurrant fruit but with crunchy unripe plum flavours. Still primary, tannins still prominent and needs time to express itself better.

2002 Château Lynch-Bages Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Tasted blind at a Bacchus evening and was my personal favourite out of the five wines we tasted. Inky core with brick edge, complex vegetal and savoury aromas and flavours of mushroom, umami, Marmite, cedar, cigar box, spice and then beautiful sweet blackcurrant flavours which were cassis like in their concentration, depth and length. Amazing structure and mouth feel. Amazing.

Tasted blind. Dark ruby with a youthful look. The nose was muted, a hint of poo initially which wasn't good and then the plum and blackberry fruit emerged but it took some coaxing. To taste it had the plum and blackberry, oak spice, tannins and bright acidity. My summary was it was quite simple! When it was revealed what it was, I, and everyone else were a little stunned! This wine didn't resemble any of the tasting notes of other CTer's and I actually seemed youthful and primary. Maybe a dumb phase but I've score it on what I tasted.

Decanted for two hours. Cork was dried out and broke in half but the wine was very fine inside. Tasted blind alongside four other clarets. Dark core with aging rim. Nose of tertiary aromas such as menthol, forest floor, earth, barnyard, spearmint and a hint of brett. Soft sweet blackcurrant fruit, lots of graphite and pencil which made me assume, in correctly, it was a Paulliac. Despite its age tannins are still present, a beautiful wine which was picked as a top wine on the night against opposition which included Pichon Longueville Comtesse Lalande and Lynch Bages, both from '02

I've not had this wine before so didn't know exactly what to expect but my suspicion is was slightly corked so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Salmon pink colour, raspberry fruit and then a damp, mushroom aroma. The palate confirmed what the nose was telling me, dead palate, limited red fruits and musty, damp cardboard flavour.
White - Sparkling
Very pale lemon, elegant spritz, muted lemon fresh aromas which suggests very little but the palate was a lot more fun. Lemon sherbet, soft and creamy mid palate with a lovely round texture and finish.

2001 Château Coutet Barsac Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend (view label images)
Gold with a powerful aroma of mushroom and emulsion paint on the nose which I quite liked. Orange marmalade fruit present too which follows through on the fairly intense palate with orange zest, spiciness and lovely mid sweet finish. Wonderful.

2009 Château Doisy-Védrines Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend (view label images)
Dull gold, aromas of mushroom and botrytis and with orange and grapefruit nose, medium intensity and lifted. The palate sweet with candied orange, tangerine peel and a bright grapefruit flavour. Medium intensity palate where the fruit still dominates and the botrytis sits in the background. Lovely balance, mid weight Sauternes.

Bought this cheap red wine to slow cook some ox cheek which required two bottles of wine for the marinade. Had a glass and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Ruby with a floral nose with blackcurrant. To taste it’s pretty light bodied with medium intensity of blackcurrant and some ground black pepper on the finish. Easy drinking and for less than a fiver about as cheap wine gets in the UK.

Fresh raspberry, dried herb and garrigue aromas which follows through on the sappy palate. Nice weight, only 13.5% abv and a lovely balance with a fresh finish. Good on its own or with food. I’ve been working my way a lot of Cinsault of late and this is one of the best.

Decanted for one hour. Colour is ruby with a pronounced brick edge. Floral, elegant, red cherry, fresh, young. To taste it’s soft and easy when first tasted but there’s lots of power on the mid palate where the blackberry and red cherry, savoury, earthy and mushroom flavours too comes to the fore with a very long finish. Wonderful.

Ruby with some depth of colour, muted nose but nice sappy, black cherry fruit which makes it very enjoyable on its own or with food. Nothing complex as you’d expect for the price but good value.

Deep ruby and youthful colour. Blackcurrant, black olive, dried herbs, garrigues which seems inviting and interesting but the palate is really too sweet and rich for my tastes with milk chocolate, raisin, blackcurrant cordial and a bit of black pepper and herbs to finish. Gloopy and out of kilter.

Very pale, freshly squeezed lime and petrol aromas and with extraordinary flavours on the palate. Freshly squeezed lime which explodes in the mouth then there’s a chalky, crushed sea shell and mineral mid palate which keeps on giving on a very long finish. In my top 3 best dry Riesling’s I’ve ever had.

Tarry sweet spicy blackberry and black cherry with enough acidity on the finish to balance it. Not a fan on the grape but this is a much fresher, better balance style which I prefer.
