#alternativepairings (Chicago, IL): Usseglio is charging over $200 for this wine! There is so much oak on this! Paying tremendous cost for blueberry milkshake, when so much cheaper at Mcdonalds. Need to renegotiate the price!

4/1/17, 11:19 PM - Unless there was a bad bottle, only an utter fool and an imbecile would diss this magnificent wine. ACYSO is obviously both, and an arrogant snot enamored of his own opinions. Should be thrown off of CT.

5/1/17, 6:10 PM - Seth Rosenberg, why don't you PLEASE get some kind of life and stop obsessing on this wine and its aficionados? You've already been chastised by the moderator over your previous games, please just knock it off once and for all. You're an attorney by trade, so you think arguing for the sake of argument is some kind of automatic behavior.
But to normal people in more-respected fields it's simply annoying and tedious. Your comment about Top 40 music just reveals you as some kind of highly-opinionated and last-century ignoramus along the lines of David Tang who writes for the Financial Times, and you display similar arrogant disdain for anything that doesn't have snob appeal. I can guarantee you that you've missed an incredible amount of high art that has graced the lowly roster that you've maligned as Top 40.

Best.wine's comment is perfectly valid and on-point, and echoes my earlier ones. Your endless argument against that very obvious point he makes just reveals you as someone I'd really not want to bother meeting with in person or having any kind of conversation with. Your mind is made up and you don't want to be confused with the facts, nor do you want to abandon any opportunity to insist that you are right and most everybody else is just plain stupid next to Mr. Wonderful You.

Again, get a life and spare those of us who like this wine any more of your priceless opinions about it. Honest to God, have you nothing better to do?

5/1/17, 6:30 PM - Seth, I repeat, kindly get a life and leave those of us who like this wine, and its style, alone. And grow up. I won't respond any further, I have better things to do than babysit someone who desperately needs to grow up and have it dawn on him that he himself is guilty of the very shortcomings he relentlessly attacks others for.

I'll give it an 89, being at the top end of "Very Good to Excellent". The next higher grade, "Outstanding", above 90, naaah, not so much. To place this wine within 3, 5 or 8 points of the CdP superstars of this vintage is utterly absurd, being such superb works as the Marcoux Vieilles Vignes, Usseglio Deux Frères, Janasse Vieilles Vignes, Clos St. Jean Deus Ex Machina, etc.

A nice wine, but the best I can describe it is "nondescript". It tastes like a very nice typical CdP, but that's about it. Nothing special in the nose, nothing special on the palate. I taste kind of a generic, not terribly tannic, reasonably accessible wine, plus a little bit of pepper, and some alcohol, and not much more. There's a reason why the Beaucastel luxury cuvée, Hommage à Jacques Perrin, or the Deus Ex Machina, sell for $600 and more, and this one sells for $75. Namely, it's a very nice $75 bottle of wine. Nobody's ever going to be chasing after this wine in coming years, and it will never ignite a bidding frenzy at an upcoming Bonham's auction.

3/25/17, 10:41 PM - Uhhhh, gharbour..... my comment about the wines costing $600 does not lead to the interpretation you made. I never said or implied that "one has to spend $600 for a very good bottle". I *did* imply that there are some wines that are in fact worth $600, for those that can afford such luxuries. Perhaps if you didn't drink so much your thought processes wouldn't be so confused, and you could properly interpret and comprehend written English??

1/28/17, 2:31 PM - This Swedish guy is totally Unclear On The Concept. He is put off by the robustness of CdP, perhaps thinking he was going to be drinking a light Burgundy, or perhaps diluted Welch's grape juice. His unwarranted rating doesn't belong here. If he had a flawed bottle, he should have noted it, but there is no excuse for him to trash what most everyone agrees is a totally stellar wine. This is the translation:

"really skitvin straight through, you want to drink port and Amarone should seek to Portugal or the Veneto, but this comes from France, and more specifically, Rhone.

the wine has an almost chemical odor, it is significantly and strongly.
the taste is dominated by alcohol, port wine, thick and hot alcohol."
