Tasted in comparison to the Hirsch vineyards 2018 West Ridge Pinot . Popped and poured . Paired with grilled salmon , baked potato and garden salad . Consistent with my notes from April 2021.

An odd thing but context is everything . I put this wine into a tasting with Pinot noirs from ‘round the world and it did not fare well. Today , popped and poured and paired with a hardy winter soup and it shone brightly !

Popped and poured. Paired with pasta, mushroom sauce and meatballs . Blueberries , smoked meats and river rock on the nose. Pinot-like - silky, soft tannins but well-balanced on the palate and finish. aging well.

Popped and poured. Ripe red cherry, some herbs and flowers on the nose. We’ll-balanced, but still tannic on the palate. Medium acidity. Good match for braised beef. In my opinion, this one is ready to go right now, especially if you decant it for a while first.

Highly recommend!!

Fabulous. Decanted for 2 hours. Served with braised beef chuck over egg noodles and a salad. Oak on the nose and palate. This is a special wine and if I can control myself, I shall save the last bottle of my 3 pack for a while. Blackberry, cassis and stones on the nose, as well. The palate is just a touch hot. A good match for a meal with ample fat and protein. Long finish of blackberry but a touch hot.

This is a super-Tuscan. - the Cabernet dominates the nose but the Sangiovese is most apparent on the palate . 2 hour decant. Enjoyed with pasta Bolognese and garden salad. You can drink this one ow with food but it is good for the cellar too.

Yes, still tannic , especially right out of the bottle . With a one hour decant, however, the tannins softened and the whole thing blossomed ! Main thing on the nose is oak: cedar, vanilla , baking spice. On the palate , generous acidity as one would expect . Great pairing with Bolognese and mushroom tortellini . Finish is very respectable .

Nice , dry Riesling . More citrus peel and almost petrol on the nose . Rich fruits on the attack and mid-palate , with high acidity kicking in on the finish . Great food wine! Great QPR!

Same tasting notes as last time , but the pairing was a squash soup with some pear. I know it sounds odd, but the soup was great and the wine paired beautifully !

Old Bordeaux. Lovely combination of earth , leather and cedar on the nose . The fruit is very muted here. Palate is mostly acid and wood. NEEDS food! Not a casual drinker. The finish is lengthy . Good QPR, if you are prepared for an austere wine that needs food .

Popped and poured. Sour cherry, wet rocks and vanilla on the nose. Needs food for sure, but the flip side is it is great with food. The feature that defines this characteristic is the acidity and mid-palate lightness/fruit drops off. I had it with chili, sour cream, and bread dipped in spicy olive oil. It was so much better with the food! The finish goes on and on. Others have compared to Burgundy or Barolo and I think those comparisons are appropriate .

Phenolic bitterness on the nose. Some apricot as well. Balanced on the palate. Great pairing with anything light, but this evening , it was grilled swordfish, tatertots and salad. The finish is quite long. Still tasting after a couple of minutes !!

I opened this wine at 9am, did not decant, and let it sit all day at 55 degrees. Paired with vegan lasagna. Rose petal, sour cherry, leather, and raspberry on the nose. Great pairing with the food. Tannins are softened and integrated. Medium finish.

Popped and poured. Paired with grilled salmon, potatoes and salad. Very consistent over time. Cherries, cranberries, pomegranate, rocks, some flowers and a hint of oak on the nose. Well-balanced and food-friendly as are all KB wines. Decent finish. Tannin is very well-integrated. Acidity is present but by no means overwhelming.

Agree with MIKEJK. Doing very well at 21 years of age. Poured into a decanter. Has all of the elements of a mature right-bank Bordeaux. Cedar, leather, rocks, some dried cassis on the nose. Medium-minus acidity. Integrated, refined tannins. Dried dark fruits. Medium finish.

Decanted for 2 hours at cellar temperature . Mainly minerality and slightly underripe cherry and raspberry on the nose. Well-balanced but not overly complex on the palate and finish. If presented blind, I would have said “very good village-level wine, but not premiere cru.

Needs food! Alone, out of the bottle this tasted out of balance with faded fruit and acidity very dominant. Decanted for 2 hours. With food, the nose of leather, tobacco and just a touch of black fruit comes through . In the context of a rich meal, this stands out as the acid helps clear the palate between bites. Not much fruit left on the palate. Finish is long.

Straight forward, but great with food. Well-balanced with typical autolytic nose, minerality and citrus on the palate. Finish is long. A sign of a good bottle is that I wish I had more.

This took both 2 hours of decanting and pairing with food to bring this one out. Out of the bottle, tannic and acidic. Not well -integrated, but after 2-3 hours of decanting and paired with braised pork in a rich sauce , it did very well. All of the classic Barolo descriptors : tar, rose petal, earth on the nose. With food ( = something with protein and fat) it goes well. Still has sharp acidity. Medium finish.

Unusual but lovely champagne. Orange peel, jasmine and brioche on the nose. Palate is well-balanced, less acidic than is typical. There is a mid-palate richness that is unusual. Great pairing with hard cheeses.

This wine needs air. Initially, the acidity stands out. Decanted at cellar temperature for 2.5 hours, but it came alive with food and swirling . It went through a phase where the dominant aroma was rocks. Then pomegranate, and a background of rose petals. Medium finish.

Popped and poured at 54 degrees . Nose shy at first but after a while , Granny Smith apple and the slightest hint of petrol on the nose. Rich, balanced on the palate . I would never guess this wine is 26 years old. The acidity melds well with the residual sugar. Paired well with a lentil, squash soup.

Decanted for about an hour. Dark cherry, rocks and a hint of mushroom on the nose. Out of the bottle there was much more cherry cola but it dissipated quickly. On the palate, high acidity, almost out of balance. Long finish. This was a great pairing for grilled salmon with a slightly spicy rub, wild rice and garden salad. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.

Initially, out of the fridge, the nose is quiet. After warming at room temperature for ~ 30 minutes, I finally get some Sauvignon Blanc varietal character. Not a criticism, but interesting. The nose is still somewhat shy, but I pick up citrus peel, rocks, and grass/herbs in the background. The lemon/citrus peel character shows through on the palate. Quite a bit of phenolic bitterness. The finish is long. I am on the PM list so had to try it, but it might be a touch overpriced. Also, who makes a Sauvignon Blanc at 15.3% ABV?

Fabulous . Decanted 2 hours and paired with vegan chili (on the mild side ). When initially opened , the typical Syrah markers were all present , but they softened and dissipated over time. Still can pick up pepper, smoked meat and blue fruits on the nose. Well-balanced on the palate. Medium-bodied, with mouth-watering acidity and soft tannins. The finish is not exceptionally long.

Popped and poured with a pot pie. The nose is quite inviting, with flowers, iron, a bit of earth, and tea. The palate is a bit thinned out at this stage. I don’t mean that to sound critical, but for those who like a Pinot with rich mid-palate mouthfeel, this one may disappoint. Well-integrated on the palate, balanced but with a bit more acidity than other components. In other words, great food wine. Medium minus tannins. Respectable finish.

Really struggling to come up with descriptors for this wine. First of all I had chilled it so it was very neutral on nose and palate on opening. But even after 45 minutes of air and rising to room temp, it is very pleasant, but just non-descript. Some citrus peel on the nose. I don’t get any white pepper. Some white flowers. I can see why this is often confused with Albariño and Pinot Gris. Also, saved this bottle for a veggie-intensive meal and it paired well, but I think other whites would have done as well - white Bordeaux, new-world Sauvignon Blanc. None of this is a criticism, just my initial foray into the world of Gruber. Beautiful on the palate and finish.
