2018 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend

Extremely exciting wine which evolves tremendously over two days. Complex nose with cassis, strawberry, tobacco and much more. Fresh on the palate, nicely integrated tannins with a long finish. Makes a great deal of pleasure now and will do so for a very long time.

10/31/22, 12:08 AM - I have yet open a bottle. I do have 2 cases of 750's and 1, 3 Ltr. I'm afraid to open it too soon.I will say I'm very curious. UnfortunatelyI havn't visited this chateau.

Gorgeous fruit aroma on open. A bit tannic still. Amazing. Heavy and needed a one hour decant. Mellowed slightly but still a huge wine for an '05 at this stage. Very solid effort and sadly my last bottle.

4/21/21, 10:40 AM - I have 7 of this. I still believe too young to drink. To me the drinking windows on Cellar Tracker are sometimes too conservative if stored properly. I will try one in the soon. maybe a four hour decant.

Bordeaux 2016 II: A second look at the 2016 confirmed my inital assessment from a tasting back in November: a) they‘re very deep, b) with perfectly ripe, fine tannins, c) a very good, well-integrated acidity and d) an incredible balance and elegance even at this young stage also thanks to a low(er) alcohol level (than in 2009 or 2015). They‘re outerwordly good and a lot of the wines tasted were quite accessible. In my opinion, they‘re clearly ahead of the 2015 vintage (better, i.e. lower ripeness level; lower alcohol; more elegance). Best wine today was the Leoville Las Cases (98+) on par with the Pichon Comtesse back in November. Honorable mentions for the Figeac (97+), Carmes Haut Brion (96+), the Pape Clement (best ever at 95+) and an again singular Yquem (97+).

Short TN: Oh, now we‘re talking. This wine, even though its a bit more closed than other wines, is so deep, dark and powerful with so much pressure of dark fruit, dark forest berries, blackberry candy, licorice, so much terroir expression, cedar, cool and classic style. Massive but weightless, deep and long. Ultra promising and together with the Pichon Comtesse the best of the bunch I tasted so far. 98++.

9/7/19, 11:02 PM - I never try a wine young and normally would wait to 2028 to taste it.
Lately I have been buying 2 or 3 375's to try earlier than the approachable date.
Saving the the 750's 1.5s and 3Ltr's for much later.
How long should wait to pop my first 375?
I don't want to do it too soon.

2016 Château Lafleur Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend

Deeply colored with a purple tint that shines at the edge, chocolate mint, flowers, black raspberry and plum liqueur notes are immediately dancing in your face. On the palate, there is serious weight and density yet the wine feels light on its feet. Fresh and refined with length and purity, the finish remains with you for more than 60 seconds. During that time, the wine moves from red fruit to black fruit taking on truffle and spice. It's an intellectual vintage for Lafleur with a unique profile. The wine was produced from a blend of 55% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot and reached 14% with a pH of 3.65. The Merlot was harvested From September 24 to September 30, which is the second longest harvest in the history of the estate.

Like an intricately cut garnet, there is a purple inflection in the color, supple in feel with silken tannins and a rich, chocolate-covered, plum finish straight outta Saint-Germain-des-Pres. This beauty should be even better with at least 5 years of age. The wine reached a healthy 14.8% alcohol, but there is no touch of heat, just pure, sweet, delectable fruits. Produced from 100% Merlot and using only micro vinification techniques, the grapes were whole berry fermented and 10% of the stems were retained to give the wine more structure and freshness. The harvest took place from September 22 to October 1. In only three years, Enclos Tourmaline has turned out to be a solid contender amongst the great wines of Pomerol. 94 - 96 Pts

4/12/19, 7:53 PM - I bought 4 3packs of this. It's only up 10 % in valve, I hope it will be a wine I'm glad I bought. In regards to the 2016, 2017, and 2918 should I pick some of them expand my pallet?

This is extraordinary. The wine is so silky, it is effortless to taste and drink. The fruits paint your palate. But the wine is light on its feet. Sensuous, sexy and racy, the fruit offers a melange of red and black cherries, plums. In the finish you find a griotte sensation that sticks with you for close to 60 seconds. This perfect mix of elegance and purity should age effortlessly for decades.

    3/9/19, 3:29 PM - I yet to taste there wine. I did purchase a 3 Ltr. of the 2015. I'm looking in to buying a a 375 or a 750 to experience it.
My question to you is. They are offering a 2016 Palmer Historical XIXth Century wine. I don't see any commits on the wine. What are your thoughts?

Better than 2015, the sensuous textures and all the same fabulous attributes -- but better. Darker, riper, sweeter, fresher and juicier with more refined stone, a sort of crushed gemstone. This wine shows well this year!

3/4/19, 9:56 PM - I bought 5, 3 Liters to give away as wedding gifts. because of the larger format when do think they will reach its peak drinking time. I've been told its twice as long for a magnum, and four times as long in a 3 Liter. What are your thoughts?
