P&P. nose typical of Mc Laren Vale* shiraz, bold dark fruits, some wood but nicely integrated, spices. The palate starts rich and large but has very good freshness for the pedigree. very long and great after taste. still has a lot of life.

Beautiful wine, this bottle was drinking exquisitely. Ripe plum and dark cherries with a hint of blackberry merge together to create a luscious nose - a basket of berries, oriental spices, a touch of clove, and another basket, this one of flowers - from almond blossom to Hibiscus to Lotus and touch of Rose Hip. Star anise adds to the complexity. This delight from nose to sip to swirl, to swallow rewards with a bright, full of finesse, yet textured mouthfeel. The 2007 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant is richly subtle, and at the same time deliciously vibrant. This wine is a lingering and loving DRC experience.

Disgorged in October 2008. Spectacular bottle that amazed a table of veteran wine aficionados. very elegant, intricate, smooth. no tertiary notes yet. A brilliant bottle which showed much improvement from the one I had a few years ago (same disgorgement date).

11/16/20, 12:54 AM - @yossarian.livez, I have tasted other bottles from the line up but my tasting note was for this Initial. I purchased 2 Initial disgorged at the same time and the improvement I was referring to was between these 2 bottles. Bottom line, it's worth cellaring them for some time.

really sexy juice. Very open intense and complex nose, black pepper, cherry, spices, blood and violet. the palate has a lot of energy, medium body and long. Very enjoyable now and should stay in this zone for a while.

ps: did not find Australian Shiraz markers such as eucalyptus, alcoholic warmth, power or stewed fruits (although I know that not all Australian shiraz taste like that)

9/9/20, 5:22 AM - thanks Liberlibri for your comment. I know where Saint Joseph is ;-). In my comment, I referred to the Aussie Shiraz notes (or the lack thereof) because Goodjob referred to them in his/her tasting note posted shortly before mine.

Dog Year Wines (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): A superb wine, even though this was easily a decade from peak. The nose was deep and compelling, with wonderful draws of sweet black cherries and plums seasoned with gobs of violets, earth and roasted meats, these with a liberal infusion of wood spice. Rather more reserved than the blushing beauty of a Musigny we had alongside, but this was very attractive nonetheless. The palate was another story - full and powerful and absolutely mouthfilling, a true Richebourg, with a deep seam of blueberries and black cherry flavours, these lined with a spine of stony mineral and then a liberal bloom of wood spice, all leading into a wonderful long, full, generous finish. There was so much power on this, yet also an effortless grace and sinewy strength. Great structure too, with a velvety grip of tannins and beautifully integrated acidity that kept that wine floating across the mouth. A tremendous wine. Drinking well enough now, but this should really hit its stride 8-10 years from now.

Dark and brooding. Very tight and monolithic. Lots of cassis, cedar and oak. Far from pleasurable. On the palate a dry tannin and a sense of underlying unripeness despite obvious fruit. Still very young but 16 years and still not even starting to drink? Is it controversial but has Mouton really made that many outstanding wines in the last 40 years? 82, 86 (maybe) 96, 00, 03, 05, 09, 10, 15, 16. 10/40 is not exactly an amazing batting average for a first growth!

5/28/20, 7:34 AM - the 86 I had last year was also tight and monolithic

Poor showing for this bottle this week end. The nose was closed and not very harmonious on the palate. I decanted it to unlock it but it did not help. The following day the wine had lost its flesh. Was the bottle defective? I do not think so. Maybe a difficult phase. I have another bottle, but I will wait a little before pulling the trigger.
