N.V. Alexandre Filaine Champagne Cuvée Spéciale Champagne Blend
Smoky, textured nectarine, that’s quite round and full and juicy on the palate. Concrete and lilac. Fish emulsion a bit—something umami. Really pleasurable and compelling. So curious about the cépages breakdown seeing as it’s likely sourced at Damery—is it mostly Meunier?

I thought this was a fabulous bottle of Champagne. I usually find Brut Nature too dry but this has so much material with great intensity that it works. Very crisp acidity just grabs the palate with focused flavors of dried lemons, citrus fruits and a lovely touch of yeasty bread. The finish is so grippy and complex with fabulous chalky mineral notes. Obviously quite young so should continue to grow even more complex in the next several years. Really really high quality juice! Off the list at Cote outdoors, NYC.

This is old school Cote-Rotie, right from the very classic label to the 12.5% alcohol and just-ripe-enough flavours here. It's not a wine for fruit-hounds, but it's certainly not thin or lean. There's tart red fruit and green olive flavours at the core, but these are dominated by much more savoury stemmy, earthy, and floral notes. Some grainy tannin beneath, but much of the structure here comes from the bright acidity. Very pretty wine, though this definitely needs time in the cellar.

Two bottles in the past week, both showing brilliantly. About an hour or so in the decanter for each, and they were smoking with beautiful aromatics; the fruit still showing quite rich and youthful but augmented by lots of maturing savouriness, and a very polished palate presence. This is drinking very well now, and I'm glad I still have a few left.
