Vinturied into a decanter for 30+ minutes. Medium+ ruby in colour. Nose of black cherry and raspberry pate with a bit of smoke and black licorice. On the palate, there are ripe raspberries with some syrup of candied cherries along with some garrigue and black fruits in the end. Medium+ bodied with a medium+ finish. Of the three cuvees for this vintage, I think this is the best.

Thank you for the kind words. I have also all three of St Damien's 2016s so I may have to pop those soon too :) Cheers!

Over an hour decant. Has a medium plum-purple in colour. Nose of boysenberries, dark plum paste, some cassis and blackberries. There are black cherries and black licorice with some cassis along with charcoal and some dark unsweetened chocolate on its tannic palate. Medium bodied with a medium+ finish. Could use a couple more years in the cellar. Excellent qpr. 92+

Pnp; has a deep ruby-purple in colour. Nose of sweet blackberry and blueberry jam and violets. Getting stewed plums and blackberries along with some cassis and black peppers where some espresso is noticed at the end. Medium bodied with a medium finish. Since the wine store I frequently visit just got this recently, I would like to think that this would be an amalgam of more recent vintages('15? '16? '17?).

The price increase has def made me think that there are some primo juice on this one, but yeah, I wish there was a way to figure out what's in here. Like your idea of drinking this based on purchase date. Cheers!

4 hour decant. Dark garnet in appearance; nose of cherry cola with some hints of spiced blackberry paste. On the palate, there are dark plums with some blackberries and cassis; hints of dark cocoa. Front palate tanins slowly dissipate with some time. Medium bodied with a medium finish; more layers of this wine is revealing itself as time goes on. Last tasted on Dec 2015.

Thank you for your kind note and I hope you are enjoying life and drinking some excellent wines as well. Yes, definitely decant this puppy for a few hours to get the most out of it even with its age. I have a few more of this and the 2011s which I hope to enjoy in the near term. Cheers and happy drinking!

One hour decant and poured through a vinturri. Medium-dark ruby-garnet in appearance. Crushed rosemary, red and black cherries and cherry pits on the nose; has a bit of that barnyard funk as well that hovers around it. Palate's getting some buttery unripe raspberries, black peppers, green herbs and touches of white fruits like unripe pears or so; also am getting some of the sweet and sour candy profile as well with some hot tartiness with its medium finish; makes me wonder if there is some marsanne or roussane with this. This is drinking well right now, don't think this will develop anymore.

12/3/15, 1:29 PM - Hi COWineLover, I'd say that I think its a good(not great) price, and maybe try a bottle(maybe your palate may like it more than mines). In my side, I will pass in buying though I will make a visit at Applejack this weekend to see if they have the St. Joseph from St. Cosme. Cheers! Mike

30 minute decant; appearance of medium ruby-garnet in the glass. Has a nose of spicy raspberries and red cherries with a hint of pomegranates and more dusty red fruits as well. On the palate, I am detecting some leathery strawberry shortcake, if that makes sense; also some hints of brambly ripe red fruits. Tannins are concentrated and tight. Medium bodied with a medium finish.

9/12/15, 5:11 PM - Hi Dave, I bought 9 bottles myself. I decanted one for a couple hours today and it seems to be good to drink, though I did notice the high alcohol. I'd say if you decant for a few hours, then you can pop this one today, though I would bury a few and revisit them in a couple of years(2017ish); this one should make it to the early part of next decade without issues. --Michael

Vinturied into a decanter and let sit for 90 minutes; poured using the vinturi. Light-medium garnet-ruby in colour; nose of very dark red fruits and some cassis with some black cherries and anise; can kinda smell the heat. The palate's getting loads of black fruits, black licorice, and some dark herbs; tannic up front and hot at the end; medium bodied with a short-medium finish. Lay this one down for a few more years before trying again.

5/9/15, 5:34 PM - Thanks COWineLover. It did opened up a little more after a few more hours, but yeah, I agree with you about giving the '10s a few more years to come together.

Pnp. Black cherries and some vanilla on the nose; dark red fruits with some tobacco on the palate though not that prevalent. Medium bodied with a medium finish; has a very good balance to it. Me thinks this has a few more years of life to it.

Garnet coloured in the glass; getting ripe crushed cherries and blueberries on the nose. The palate is very friendly with some more red and blue fruits along with some hints of coffee. Smooth and the tannins are just about non-existent. Drinking very well as it is.

6/5/13, 7:57 PM - Thanks. Wish I have a couple more bottles, unfortunately, this was the only one I managed to score. This winery is definitely in my radar now.

30 minute decant and poured through a vinturri. Dark ruby-esque in colour. Getting some blackberries, cherries, and some licorice on the nose. The palate is getting some more black berries, black cherry licorice, with some black peppers and dark tobacco; concentrated and focused. Tannins are coarse but they're not all over the place. Medium bodied with a medium finish. This is supposedly a dead ringer for a CdP and I can kinda see that from my limited experience. Plenty of wine for the money on this one.

2/26/13, 1:33 PM - Thanks Barry Notes. I'm pretty impressed with this wine. I do my shopping mostly online(the usual suspects: WTSO, Last Bottle, WineShopper, and a few others) and do go to Applejack every now and then as I don't live that far away from them. May have to try the Argonaut tasting event as I've always been interested in going to tasting events to find some diamonds in the rough out there.

    Michael
