Nice upfront and mid-palate fruit. The finish is fairly big. However on the finish is too much “heat”. It is a big wine at 15.7% and probably could use another 3-5 yrs of bottle age to really integrate every thing.

Good for 2011 and there is decent fruit on the mid-palate but not much of a finish at all.

Opened & let it breath in the bottle for about 90 minutes before drinking. This wine is still very young and has plenty of life left. Very dark in color & great nose. Fruit forward & very smooth. Smooth translates into elegant which is how others describe it. However the low rating is due to no finish. It has a great mid-palate, but then nothing on the finish which is very disappointing.

Great nose -- very fragrant. Somewhat fruit forward with most of the fruit on the front/mid-palate. The finish is only so-so. Don't believe this wine is one that you want to put down for more than 3-5 years.

Decanted for 1 HR and then consumed. Very smooth and still lots of fruit for an 11 yr old bottle. Slight "sweet" taste to it but I really liked the wine. No sense of it going to a secondary older stage. Still a great finish and goes extremely well steak.

Great bottle of wine that isn't showing its age much at all. Pop-n-pour. Fragrant nose. Lots of fruit still on the mid-palate. Not much of a finish. If you have any left go ahead and open a bottle as not sure it is going to get any better.

Decanted for about 60 minutes. The nose was huge and very fragrant. Very nice fruit on the mid-palate -- not a big fruit forward, but definitely a nice balance of fruit that transitions to a nice big mouth-coating long finish. This wine still has plenty of life left, but is tasting great right now also.

Opened and let it breath for about 2 hours before drinking. Very fragrant nose. Lots of fruit on the mid-palate which transitions into a nice long finish. This wine is still a baby and has lots of age left. Definitely give a few hours before drinking if you open now.

This is a well made "old school" wine. Reminds me a great Bordeaux vs most fruit forward napa cabs that you buy today. The nose is fragrant with leather and tobacco which are the primary flavors on the mid-palate. The transition to the finish is very good. The finish is fantastic - 45-60+ second finish that just continues to go on and on. I would recommend decanting for 3-4 hours to get the full effect of the wine. Also this wine is still a baby and has at least another decade left. So make sure to save at least a bottle or two to try in another 5-10 years.

Not a lot on the nose. However good amount of fruit on the mid-palate and decent finish. Not a "coat your mouth cab" but good bottle of wine. Not sure how much better it will get with age.

This is a great Zin. However it really needs some time to open up. I just pop-n-pour and if you will allow it to decant for 60-90 minutes I think you would really enjoy the bottle of wine.

Decanted it for about 3 hours prior to drinking. Very dark in color. Very fragrant on the nose. Smooth with just the right amount of fruit on the mid-palate. However, there was very little transition to the finish and hardly and finish at all. I like a big long finish and it wasn't there in this wine.

Decanted for about 3 hours before drinking. Very fragrant on the nose. Full body cab, though when first tried it after 3 hours, it was still pretty tight. took about another hour to really open. Very nice fruit on the mid-palate, and good transition to the finish. However, the finish was pretty short in nature. The so-so finish was the primary reason for the lower- than average rating.

Decanted for about 2-3 hours prior to drinking. Very dark in color, but not as big a syrah as the color would have indicated. Some, but not a lot of fruit on the mid-palate. It coated my mouth more than the last reviewer indicated, but not much of a finish.

This is a lighter on the full-body cab side. When I first opened it, it was tight and had a "herbal" taste/finish and wasn't very good. However, after sitting in the decanter for ~ 3 hours, it got much better. The nose opened up, there was a good fruit (herbal taste disappeared) on the mid-palate. The transition to the finish and the finish itself was very good & long. I was very skeptical about this wine at first, but then really liked it at the end. I still think it is still a baby with plenty of life (4-7 years). I would highly recommend decanting it to allow it time to open up and get its act together before drinking.

This is bottle is still far from mature and very tight. I recommend decanting for 2-3+ hours before drinking. WHen I first opened it, you could tell from the nose that it was still very tight and needed a lot of time to open. Afterwards the nose finally started to show some decent fragrance. The mid-palate had some nice fruit but not thing spectacular. The finish was very short. I recommend holding off on opening this wine for a couple more years if possible. Otherwise, definitely decant it.

Very tight wine. Needs 2-3 hours in the decanter to really open up and show you what all it has to offer. Very fragrant nose. Good amount of fruit once it opened up. Nice finish. Overall a good bottle of Zin as along as you are willing to decant it. If i was to rate how it tasted prior to letting it open up, it would have probably been an 89. Hence don't pop-n-pour or you will probably be disappointed.

I pop-n-pour and drank over 4 hours. Not much to the nose. Very dark with no signs of bricking. Not a lot of fruit but a decent long finish. Either this wine needs a lot more time to open up, or it is a very boring wine with very little flavor. Not sure which one is reality. I would recommend decanting for 3-4 hours before drinking and hopefully it opens up for you.

Not much of a nose. Very dark in color. However though dark in color, it isn't as big a cab as I would have thought. It is very smooth. Does coat your entire mouth and hence has a good finish. I opened the bottle and let it breathe in the bottle for about 5 hrs before drinking.

Overall & especially for the price, this was a very good bottle of wine. Very fragrant nose, good amount of fruit on the mid-palate and decent finish. Overall from nose to finish and everything in between this was a good bottle of wine, but not a great bottle of wine. I let this bottle of wine decant for about 2 1/2 hours before I really began drinking it. The nose was fragrant. Medium amount of fruit on the mid-palate. The finish was good and coated the entire mouth. However, it was just missing something in general and why I only rated it 91 points.

Nose is fragrant. Smells resemble a wine transitioning to a mature cab with not as much fruit snacks n the nose. Decanted it and drank over 4 hours. This wine is no longer showing much of its mountain fruit. Resembles a more mature "valley" wine at this point. The finish is very short and disappointing. I don't see any reason to hold off on drinking this wine at this point.

Opened and decanted it for about 2 hours prior to drinking it. IT had a nice nose and good amount of fruit. The finish was pretty good also. Definitely recommending decanting it prior to drinking as there is a lot of sentiment and it needs a lot of time to open up. Even though this is the cheaper Seavey Cab, it is still pretty big and young.

This is a pretty big wine and was very tight when I opened it. It needs about 2-3 hours of decanting to really open up and show everything that it had. So when I first opened it and tasted it, I would have agreed with the lower ratings that last few have given this wine. However, if you can be patient and let it breathe and open up, it will turn into a much better bottle of wine. The nose was very fragrant after a couple of hours. Lots of fruit on the mid-palate and a decent 30+ second finish.

This wine is pretty bad especially for the price. Now I remember why I don't buy Somoma wines. I decanted it for 3.5 hrs. When I first opened it, the wine tasted almost "sour" as the grapes were picked way too early. A lot of the other descriptions I read said it has a lot of herbal tastes and that is definitely true. After about 3 hours of decanting, the herbal tasting has become a little less evident. However it is still there. It is a really bad bottle of wine and I am really disappointed that the winery would actually release this wine. I have been buying their wine for the past 7-8 years. Their wines are more "old-school" and need a lot of aging. Hence I am just finally beginning to drink my wines and this is not a good start to their cab offerings. If this wine was $15 bottle of wine it would be considered decent. But for $50, it is a really bad bottle of wine. Maybe it will get better in another 5-8 yrs but I doubt it. Sorry to be so blunt, but I call it as I see or in this case drink it.

Opened it and let it breathe in the bottle for about 4 hours before I began to drink it. Being opened for that long really helped the wine open up. It was the best Barbour I have had yet. The nose was wonderful and very expressive. It was very smooth, lots of fruit on the mid-palate and at least a 60 second finish. The wine still has plenty of life left.

Popped and pour and that was a mistake. This a pretty big zin and needs plenty of time to open up. It was very tight and wasn't revealing nearly as much fruit on the mid-palate as it could. about 2 hours into drinking it, it finally started to open up some, but was still very tight. I would recommend holding off on drinking this wine at this point and give it a few years of aging. Otherwise, I would decant it for at least 2-3 hours before drinking.

Pop and pour. The wine really needs to be decanted to let it open up some. When I first tasted the wine, it tasted much more like a valley-floor wine vs its true mountain fruit. However after about 60 minutes of the bottle being opened, the fruit really came around and it was a nice bottle of wine. Not much of a finish which was disappointing, but overall a good bottle especially for the price.

Popped and poured. Drank over the following 90 minutes. The wine was drinking well right out of the gate, though I would still recommend a 60-90 minute decant as the wine tasted the best towards the end of dinner. It is very dark in color. Great nose and still plenty of fruit on the mid-palate. Very smooth wine & nice long finish. Not sure you really need to wait much longer to drink it.

Decanted for about 2 hrs before drinking. The positive is that there is a decent amount of fruit on the mid palate. Also it is ver smooth. The big negative is that there isn't much of a finish. It starts out but then just dies almost as quickly as it starts. I would recommend drinking it now as I don't see the wine getting any better.

Opened and let it breath in the bottle for about 2 hours prior to drinking. I shouldn't have done that as it lost a lot of its fruit over those 2 hours. I would recommend pop-n-pour or no more than about 30 minutes of breathing prior to drinking. Very smooth and nice finish.
