At the beginning as expected: A power bank with black berries, liquorice, one dimensional, grippy tannins combined with a sharp acidity and little bitterness (overextracted?) - boring wine to forget.
1 hour later everything was different. Once in a sudden red cherries and red currant show up. This gives now a great balance between black and red fruit. The bitterness is gone and the sharp acidity has softened. In combination with the now silky tannins this wine offers a juicy lingering finish…. happy to have 9 left.
What a development! Great QPR

Still too young and no pleasure at the moment. Even a 3 hour decant couldn’t unlock this beast. All weapons there, but unsure when they will show up. Will try the next bottle in 2 years. No score for the moment. Will stay with my other 08 Bordeaux as for example the beausejour duffau lagarosse has been in a much better drinking window (opened parallel)
Update:
No improvement on day 2, but provided some pleasure day three after 3 more hours in the glass. The wine settled down, with more power and now more integrated acidity and softened tannins. I preserved the wine in the bottle with argon spray and kept it in a cool room at 15 degrees Celsius or 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Compared to the parallel opened Leoville Barton 08 this St.Emilion was ready right from the start.
08 typical mid weighted with red berries, tabaco and some well integrated oak. The lively acidity provides a quite multi layered long final. Good QPR and pleasure over the next 10 years.

Same impression as last time. Bought directly from Albert in 2013, cellaring was perfect.
No fruit but massive acidity.
Absolutely no pleasure.
Will try to sell my remaining bottles

The last of 12 bottles and probably the best. full bodies with red and mostly dark fruits with good acidity and grippy tannins. Not very complex, I was missing minerality. Slight tertiary notes, comparable to damp saddle leather and forrest floor. The wine is still in a great spot and delivers a lot of fun. Will certainly last another 2-3 years. Enjoy your bottles NOW!

Well, pretty hard to rate. Alongside with some GC, this CB struggled. O.k. there is some dark fruit, but the sharp acidity and the harsh tannins do not make it appear harmonious. Hopefully in a bad spot, but I doubt it.

2003 Château Phélan Ségur St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
1/19/2021 - schneesurfer Likes this wine:

Pnp, the wine was open and approachable right from the start. Beautiful dark berries, sandal wood with some elder. On the palate again dark berries, fine acidity and nice softened tannins wich are slightly drying. The masculine, vibrant finish is medium long. After 1-2 hours the Phelan lost some of his bright character. Not bad at all.

2005 Château Haut-Marbuzet St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
1/19/2021 - schneesurfer Likes this wine:

Right after opening the wine showed raisins and other sweet dried fruits (rum pot). On the palate the same- sweet fruits, no depth, no length, no character. Nothing what I would expect from Bordeaux. The Phelan 03 next to it was exactly the opposite, which was surprisingly too due to the hot vintage.
After one hour the HM turned the leaf - unbelievable but true.
Great dark fruits, wet saddle leather - masculine character. On the palate grippy tannins and lively acidity. Great balance with a satisfying sappy finish. This beautiful wine won’t become better, butt will keep this level for another 5 years at least.
Finally more enjoyable than the Phelan.

2014 Château Capbern St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
12/1/2020 - schneesurfer Likes this wine:

From demi, this wine is in a young but already approachble stage. The colour is youthful and the nose offers cassis, sweet vanilla which fades with some air. The Capbern is very well balanced with grained tannins, fine acidity, medium plus body and a chewy, persistant final. It combines power with finsse - very very promising!

No formal notes ... it was the 3rd bottle of the night for two:-)
All I can remember is, that I was impressed by the quality. It became better and better with air, so there’s no rush to drink it up.
Medium+ body, more on the dark than red berry side. Grippy tannins which have been a little bit drying.
All in all one of the better Medoc‘s I’ve had so far (I prefer the Haut Medoc). Glad to have 4 left, which I will drink over the next 4 years one by one.

With 2hrs of air this boy turns into a beauty. All kind of red berries, with velvet tannins and fully integrated oak. The nice acidity leads this medium bodied Phelan into a vibrant medium+ finish. Will be best within the next 3-5 years and stays there for at least 5 more. I don’t believe this is a long runner, so start drinking now for a decade. Wonderful classic Bordeaux claret.

Pnp .. very tight at the beginning, dark berries, fine cedar and Cuban tobacco. Classic style with grippy tannins and fine acidity.
On day two the Langoa opened up. Still classic, but much smoother and more voluminous with a medium+, sappy finish. Quite structured. Will improve with further cellaring!

PnP. Ready to drink. In the nose nice Bordeaux style- dark berries, forest floor and pencil lead. Well integrated oak. I was surprised by its power. It is full bodied with lots of dark berries and (very) soft tannins. I guess, the acidity could become more present in some years. This would give this Cantemerle some freshness. For me, this wine is very nice but pretty simple with lack of layers. Could be from somewhere else than Bordeaux. Will try the second half of the bottle at 18 degrees Celsius.

Update of day2: the cooler drinking temperature gives the wine a bit of freshness. Still lack of structure. Like it anyway and will drink the rest of my case over the next 11 years to see if this wine can improve.

This time Le Crock is really well performing while I was quite disappointed last time about a year ago. It seems that the pieces find together. Gains power and structure with air. Not very complex but nice balance of black fruits, acidity with a soft mouthfeel. Ends medium long. Can improve in the next 5 years, already enjoyable now and over the next 10 years.
