2011 Vérité Le Désir Sonoma County Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Le Desir's bright and youthful appearance and compelling nose present crunchy blackberry, fresh pomegranate seed, black plum and blueberry. However, the real star is the floral and herbal signature of Cabernet Franc, which comes alive on the nose and the palate. Fresh rhubarb, dried rosemary, fresh cut flower stems, fresh violet blossoms, fresh green coffee beans all come together to form a signature which might be mistaken for an expressive vintage of Cabernet Franc from Saint-Emillion. Only on the palate does this wine truly reveal its Sonoma County parentage, showing a full compliment of New World fruit. While compelling now, 2011 Le Desir will truly blossom with time"

Sensational with short rib and polenta; harmonious, complex, a perfect Chateauneuf drinking well now but will last. 95.

Just fabulous almost 50 years later. It actually took some time to open after pouring and then blossomed with a gorgeous nose and a two-three minute finish that was delicious. A beautiful example of an aged Bordeaux.

Beautiful with a pan-roasted rib eye. A big, dark purple wine but smooth, good extract and resolved tannins. A nice long finish that lingered in the mouth.

Opened and decanted to avoid sediment. Excellent wine--terrific example of St Estephe and Montrose. Very smooth (after 40 years you would expect tannins to be resolved!) Beautifully mellow and a perfect match with a sensational rib-eye steak. At it's peak now--if you find it or own it drink up.

Nice ending to a Christmas dinner. Very hot when initially poured, this needed a little air to mellow. Thin and less syrupy than many Madeiras, it is nonetheless solid, tasty and very representative of a good Boal. Not as complex but extremely smooth and certainly ready to drink.

Wonderful for a Christmas dinner party. Toasty, good body, very nicely aged but still plenty vibrant (which I attribute to the magnum), very nice and long finish. At peak after 20 years. Quite special.

Popped and poured immediately. Nice barnyard nose (which blew off fairly quickly). A little tight for the first few minutes but opened up nicely in the glass. Smooth, soft, very fresh-tasting for a 38 year old wine. Not a lot of length on the pallette. Some wonderful La Chappelle complexity although feeling its age. Very satisfying and better than expected.

Spectacular at 11 Madison Park in NYC with beef and venison. Fresh, extremely elegant, complex and perfect despite it's ancient age. A wonderful example of Lafite at its best.

Still wonderful and buttery after 18 years. Worth the wait.
