Third (and final) tasting. This bottle was completely different, the bottles I tasted previously were fruit bombs, more like Plumpjack or Caymus Special Selection. This one had much stronger aromatics, shades of menthol or eucalyptus. Still quite enjoyable.

Last bottle. Still in good shape, but definitely on the downward side of life. Drink up.

Decanted a few hours, then consume over the next 48. Cork was dried out. Initial tasting had a note of incense, maybe sandalwood. This faded away during the decant. Starting to taste like it’s a little on the downward slide, drink up.

2012 Napa cab continues to impress me. Outstanding wine at this price point.

One of the few 2013’s I’ve tasted that was ready to drink. Surprisingly good.

Multiple tastings with consistent notes. I think 2012 is underrated, this wine smelled of perfume, soft tannins like most 2012’s. Wish I had more

Better than I expected, considering it’s a 2011. A little thin, but holding up well.

I continue to be impressed by the 2012 Napa cabs and this is another excellent example. Not the biggest of wines, but quite good. Drinking beautifully right now.

This old Mondavi held up better than I expected, still some fruit, dominated by aromatics. Drink up.

These older Caymus SS wines are drinking well right now, most of the overt jamminess has dropped away. More aromatics show through.

If you can't afford Hillside Select, this is your next best thing. The 2012 is drinking beautifully now. A great wine at this price point.

First 2013 I've tasted that was really ready to drink. Seavey has done a good job controlling their previously frightening tannins. Nice for the price.

Surprisingly enjoyable, a great wine at this price point. Perfect amount of age, tannins relaxed but still plenty of fruit.

Really hitting it's ready to drink window. Still bold fruit flavors without being over the top jammy. Reminds me of insignia. Outstanding.

One of the first 2013 cabs that have opened up. Gobs of fresh fruit flavors, but still strong aromatics. Pretty good wine at this price point.

Impressive, considering the age and price at release. This wine has aged really well, the fruits are still fresh, the tannins have integrated.

I haven't bought much of the more recent vintages of Caymus, but this wine, with 10+ years down, drank very nicely. The fruit bomb nature has receded and I felt this wine had better balance than more recent (and younger vintages). Cork was perfect, fairly large amount of moderate to large sediment.

I continue to be impressed by Seavey Caravina 12,13,14. They've done a good job controlling the tannins, especially here in the 2013. Outstanding wine at a $50 price point.

I generally like FAY & SLV quite a bit, but this particular bottle had some ester notes which I did not like that much. It faded after an overnight slumber in the decanter. Perhaps flawed?

Last bottle. Every time I taste this, I'm more impressed than ever. Still a fruit bomb, but with this much age, it is drinking beautifully. Outstanding for a $35 bottle. I wish I had more

Corked. The polyethylene wrap worked pretty well, but this should be a massive wine, not a thin and cedary thing. Ugh.

Probably the best Caravina I've tasted, perfectly aged. The cork was perfect, decanted an hour and consumed over the next 24. Surprising amount of fruit, tannins fully integrated. As with all Seavey, leaning towards the aromatic side of life. Outstanding at its original price point.

Quite enjoyable given this price point. This wine had a touch of esters which faded in the decanter. It was a bit off-putting. I don't recall the other bottles I tasted as having this, maybe a bad bottle.

I've been tasting a lot of the 2014 Hall wines, these are drinking very well, young. This wine was very enjoyable, but not a ton of depth. I like Kathryn Hall much better.

2nd tasting with consistent notes. Decanted about an hour then consumed over the next 24. Really intense flavors considering this is 70% merlot (20% cab franc, 10% cab). Great value at the $52 price point.

Decanted through a Zazzol and tasted over the next 24. Remarkably open for such a young wine, though RP gave the vintage a 93R, meaning ready to drink. I have to concur, especially in this case. As most Hall wines I've tasted, very fruit forward, but not over the top. One of my favorites.

Corked. The polyethylene plastic wrap trick worked for the most part. Real shame, despite the cork taint, you could taste the nice fruit and the hint of something special.

perfect cork. moderate amount of very fine sediment. Classic seavey, decanted about 4 hours, but didn't open up until the next day. Not a ton of fruit here, more BDX styled. Tannins are relaxed. An enjoyable wine but receding towards a thin wine. Drink up.

Cork broke on extraction, should have used my ah-so. The cork showed some signs of dry rot. Decanted a few hours, then drank over the next 48. Initial tastings showed some oxidation, but later testings did not. In any case, this wine appears to be losing it's fruit, I think it's on the downhill side of life. Aromatics are fairly soft, too, so in the long run, the wine was enjoyable, though diluted. Drink up.

I couldn't resist drinking a bottle after buying a 6. Impressive fruit forward wine without being jammy. No shortage of aromatics and the tannins are there, but not bite your head off tannic. I'm going to enjoy these. Outstanding.

Decanted a few hours, drank over the next 24, moderate sediment. This bottle had a strange iodine aroma that I did not find appealing. It could have been corked, but didn't show any of the usual signs. In fact, the fruit intensity was just fine. Tannins were still strong, perhaps needed more cellar time.
