Brilliant, even more so than most wines. Brick red moving away from the rim. Drink now. High tones of tart cherry on the nose. Balanced taste with round fine grained tannins as the fruit emerged on the second day. A more masculine style. Great balance on a short finish. Wonderful with cog a vin.

Light, simple, fruity CdL, with apricots, peach, pears and citrus notes. I was looking for a sweeter wine to pair with dessert, and this didn't quite have the richness, weight and sweetness I was looking for. Still, a nicely balanced wine that I would probably pair with cheese rather than dessert.

Delicious. My first experience with the chenin from this appellation, and while it was simple, it was certainly delicious. Ripe apricot, orange, clementine...and lots of ripe citrus. Yummy! Great sugar and balance.

9/26/15, 2:50 PM - CDL is a wonderful AOC, and probably the best cheese wine there is to pair with a board(it goes with the most varieties). try a quarts du chaume next, and you'll enter a whole new world, the pinnacle of Chenin .

Hmmmpff. Several years ago I bought a bunch of these and have been sitting on them for some time. 1999 was no ’96 when it comes to vintages in Champagne, but it was no slouch, either. The flavor development was there (perhaps a bit to sherried, but I typically like that in vintage champagne), but there was a considerable and disappointingly noticeable loss of sparkle that really should not happen with a wine of this quality. Once again, I got this from the PLCB and those morons either got duped into buying a bad batch or left it on the truck for two days in 90 degree heat. Take your pick. Still Very Good (at least to me), but this should be much more. 5 more bottles…. thedrunkencyclist.com
  • FarmerKeith LA/VA commented:

10/28/14, 7:24 PM - Disappointing story. What is PLCB? I found 4 in my local Safeway in the country, 2yrs ago, and bought all. No one buys wines on that level out here, unless from DC, and buy them elsedwhere. I've decimated their tiny stock of aged , high-end wines. As for the Bolly, I love the stuff. It's the oldest vintage champagne , I've had , so guess I'm a neophyte. Still have 1. There's a few Sassicaia's from 99 , I've yet to go back for, at Safeway.

This wine is a blend of Cabernet, Merlot, and several other reds. It's high alcohol, over 15%, and very "new world" in terms of style. I don't like the style of this wine. It's very sweet and fruity - almost blueberry in flavor. I've heard wines described as "blueberry milkshakes" - I think this is an example. To be fair, in its style, it's a well made wine, and possible after many years of cellaring, the fruit would tone down. If you have any of this and like the style, I'd recommend holding it for several more years. GOOD.

Lots of bottle variation here. After a first review pan, a second bottle tasting was more of what I thought to expect even in this off vintage, will wait for third tasting to make a more informed decision. There was no flatness that I saw in the previous bottle, the flavor profiles were more structured and came together nicely.

This wine has really fleshed out, riper than prior bottles, but still shows classic, creamy lemon like a good Burg. Where CA Chardonnay typically leans toward pineapple, butterscotch and oak, this wine is much more pear, apple and lemon/lime acidity. So balanced with loads of depth and character.

First bottle of six. I had expected a floral, Côte Rôtie look-alike style from this wine. But this wine had a more masculine in-your-face kind of attitude with tons of green and red pepper together with roasted meat in the nose. The wine had a meaty profile with mature black fruit and some smoke and I detected no floral notes. The palate was dominated by pepper backed up by warm - albeit not cooked - black fruit and roasted flavours. The wine had not an elegant profile. But it was a very good, powerful, straightforward and peppery one with some underlying complexity. Based on other users' notes, I conclude that this was not a representative bottle. I hope to find a more floral and elegant style in some of my remaining bottles.

Winebow's ICON tasting (RPM Italian, Chicago, IL): Nose: Perfumed, but with a robust quality to it with gorgeous and flowing tones of black cherries, spice tones, roasted herbs, licorice, earth tones, and some florals as well. There is very good depth to this as well.

Taste: Full bodied with medium acidity and massive tannins. The feel is very good underneath the massive tannins with really good and robust tones of black cherries, spices, roasted herbs, licorice, and floral tones.

Overall: This is a wonderful wine that should get better and better with age. There is a headiness to the tones on the nose and the structure shows the youth of the wine.

So I'm rating this one way up for one simple reason. In my personal and humble opinion no one does a more interesting and better complex wine than Randall Graham in this wine. It will pair with virtually anything and I have never had anyone say anything short of spectacular when I open this up. Compare that to your 100-plus dollar options where you sort of expect it and when it falls short you feel slighted. This won't happen with this wine.
