Earth and sandlewood on the nose drawing together menthol notes and ripe fruit. This wine was a bit of a roller coaster for the first hour showing dark soil and canned cherries that evolved into a beautiful profile of stone and spice.

The backbone of this wine is in the acid that acts as a bridge between the lovely front end and a precise finish. Loved it.

1947 Château Lafleur Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
A chance to drink history. What a magical experience from a time the World was busy picking itself up after World War 2.

Carefully using the ah-so, the top 7/8's of the cork still seprated and we were forced to push the remainder in and strain into a decanter. I loved the old brown glass with the visible seams.

How thrilled we were to find this wine in good shape. Brick colored edges and a slightly foggy, crimson/ purple hew. The initial nose was leather, earth, and menthol. The palate was initially muted and the fruit came forward after 15-20 minutes as it woke up from it's long nap.

Smooth dark Pomerol fruit with a hint of spice, giving a nod to the cab franc. This wine went through a series of quick transformations over the next hour with one of the highlights around 30 minutes in. This was like a mythical beast waking from hibernation. 45 minutes later, the fruit receded and acid dominated for a bit as it continued it's journey. Medium soft body and oh so elegant.

I am haunted by this wine. There were subtle complexities that elude my ability to express. Something about the way it filled the corners of your mouth to tease you with its finesse. That red dress that slips past the corner of your eye.

I know I will never see this wine again but what a memory I shall keep of our romance on a January night in 2016.

Brickish brown on the edges like the meat of a prune. Aged prune on the nose and mouth as well. While not unpleasant, a flash of tartness and a whisper of a finish are all that remain of this ghost. Despite what it lacks, what remains is pleasant enough and probably worth the $25 at Total Wine for the experiment.

What a fantastic drinking window. Lively acidity and mountains of dark cherry fruit. This wine is a Ferrari with the gas pedal floored. Seamless from front to back, I was taken by it's lack of respect for the status quo. How dare a Washington wine be this good. Wow..

A decent nose leads to a non existent entry and a disjointed mess of a mid palate. The oak on the finish is pleasant but not enough to overcome the haunting tangle that proceeds it. I'm not sure what the goal of this wine was, but there are much better ways to spend 25 dollars.

Holy smokes this was good. Hangs tough up there with Phelps and Opus in my opinion. Smooth, lovely, California fruit that fills the mouth and finishes long. Some big oak but in a good way. I'm sure glad I have one more.

I've had this several times and I liked this bottle better than the last. I'm learning that some of these older wines need more time to settle down after shipping.

Nice Pauillic nose and mouthfeel with short decant. Doesn't over deliver for the price, which has been creeping up over the last decade. (I remember buying a magnum of 96 for 60.00)

Still a decent experience. Will buy again if on sale...

Give this wine some time to decant and watch it grow in the glass. The funk blows off fairly quickly to reveal a typical Altesino sangio nose with bright fruit. Medium+ bodied with nice layers and a long finish.

I really enjoyed this. Fruity cab lovers beware- this is not a wine for you. Pair it with food because despite it's age, there's a surprising amount of teeth coating tannin present.

I drank this with my wife and friends at Tullios in downtown Seattle before seeing Wicked at the Paramount. We also opened an 04 Diamond Creek cab and an 06 Col Solare. Dishes included duck, lamb, pork, and ribeye and this wine showed very well.

Fruit, depth, complexity, and aging potential. It's all there. If you have more in your cellar, feel free to enjoy it now or leave it alone.

A memorable wine and a great evening.

Beautiful nose and nice structure to this pinot. Had that Willamete nose that reminded me of my last trip there. Appears to be entering a very nice drinking window. The second day however, the fruit was gone and all you got was heat so drink up the first day!

What a nice drink. I was stunned that this had so much character. Drank very much like a Rhone wine. Dark and brooding with menthol and toast. 15 years and this had a lot of gas in the tank. I actually drank this 6 years ago and didn't like it nearly as much as I did now. Great drinking window! If you have more, I'm jealous!

Quite a bit of barnyard and brett that needed an hour or so to blow off. Still some nice balanced juice in there. Very enjoyable but will look to drink the other bottles soon.

Dark with lots of prunes and raisins. Still some oak on the finish. Felt a bit disjointed and I wondered if this had some issues with being stored properly. Missed the mark I was hoping for. Drink soon.

A well built wine but had trouble standing up to some stiff competition that night. 82 Mouton, 2001 Caymus SS, etc. We wanted something newer to try. Again- well built but in need of something distinct to set it apart I think. Will approach again in a few years.

Drank at the Everett Woodfire grill for Aunt Joan's Birthday.

Brick-like, almost brown in the glass. Menthol and berries on the nose and in the mouth. Nice complexity and a beautifull, lingering finish. A wonderful example of what aged Brunello can do in a great vintage. Wish I had another.

A nice oaky nose. Tart berries and lots of vanilla. I will wait to see if the oak integrates and the mid palate fills in with a few more years age. It's a great drink if you can get it around the 35.00 mark.

Amazing initial nose of cherry and cedar. Great balance and finish. With about an hour of air, the alchohol became more prominant, muting those nicer characteristics.

Still a great drink. Drank with Aunt and Uncle and paired with London Broil at Anthony's. Enjoyed by all.

Got a killer deal on this at $14 a bottle! Popped and poured. Dark purple with lovely black liquorice and prunes. Teeth coating tannins and a somewhat tart but lengthy finish.

This needs a few years or some serious decanting. A solid wine.

A very complex wine that made for some thoughtful drinking. Probably one of the most unique wines I've had the pleasure of partaking in. However, as a small contractor with a modest wine budget, I can't seem to wrap my head around the price of this wine. This wine is obviously aimed at a different cliental than the average wine drinker which is unfortunate given that I live in Snohomish Washington- about a mile from the winery. ah well..

A big oaky thing with generous spice and acidity on the finish. I was surprised to see that this has enough gas to go for a few more years. A great value. Price has become more of a factor in my opinion of a wine of late and this one has everyting going for it. I found this at a wine shop for $24 with 11 years on it already. I dare you to find a better deal!

Call me crazy but I liked this wine. Some may call it lacking in depth or character, but I call it subtle and easy to approach. I opened this with a 99 Whithall lane and a 99 Beringer Private reserve cab and for some reason enjoyed this more. Perhaps my palate is a little cab'd out but for $30, this is an easy pick for me.

Nice fruit that perfectly pairs with meat and cheese. Awesome.

Popped and poured this at 55 degrees. What a mistake. Had nice depth and structure but an odd funk. As this got some air, warmed up, and settled, it went from being an 82 pt wine to a 91 as that funk was absorbed and became a charming piece of a great wine.

I really like how this wine is priced. Not the greatest Burgundy I've ever had but certainlty worth the $20 price tag. I guess I've just had so many horrible French wines at the same price, that I was pleasantly surprised. Very easy drinking wine with a little air. Would buy again.

There's a lot going on in this wine. Nice fruit and a great finish with enough backbone to keep me from approaching the next bottle for a few years. The mechanics of this wine would suggest a tremedous effort by the wine maker in it's conception. A nice bottle of juice but the high price keeps it from an even higher score in my humble opinion.

There is something about aged Brunello that puts a smile on my face. It feels like the mess has been stripped away to reveal that patch of earth from whence it came. Wonderful balance to this wine. Not much on the nose, but great in the mouth with an earthy, mushroom that takes it's sweet time as it wonders around your head. A great wine to finish off a great Birthday and well worth the wait.
