Opened and paired with grilled chicken and mixed salad. Cloudy purple with a crimson hue. Floral nose brings purple lavender, red roses, nutmeg, cinnamon spices, and orange peel. The palate is medium-large, square, and compact, bringing a hard core of raspberries and sour rhubarb followed by high-toned pomegranate/cherry notes, wood smoke, and black tea into a tannic finish. This will be best 2026-2036. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90.

Opened and decanted 1.5 hours ahead of seared filet, roasted potatoes, and grilled zucchini in olive oil. Was reductive on opening but the nose eventually blossomed into a lovely floral array of cherry blossoms, potpourri, red roses, crushed gravel, and mint. The palate is medium-full, round, silky, and voluptuous, bringing blackberries, blueberries, and cherries, followed by scattered coffee, tobacco, eucalyptus, leather, and that orange peel note into a refined finish. Much improved over our last tasting a few years ago, as this has retained its outstanding acidity and refined tannins yet developed more fruit and freshness on the palate. Drink 2024-2030. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 93.

This has improved greatly since our last tasting almost two years ago. Though it took about 2-3 hours to fully open up in the decanter, it eventually brought a deep, violet floral nose with beef stock and minerals. The palate is evolving to show delineated fruit, with plum, blueberries, and high-toned cherries, followed by wood smoke, peppered beef jerky, and candied blackberries into a tannic finish. Overall, this wine is developing a nice sweetness on the palate to balance out the bone-dry structure and tail. Will only get better, so drink 2025-2035. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 92.

Opened and decanted 1.5 hours ahead of seared rib-eye, garlic potatoes, and mixed salad. Overall, took about 3.5 hours in the decanter to fully open up. Dark, purple-crimson color. Gravel nose brings fresh cherry blossoms, red roses, blueberry compote, blackcurrant, and pipe tobacco. The palate is medium-full, square, and compact, revealing bright Bing cherries, sweet raspberries and blueberries, dark chocolate, espresso bean, anise, and dried mud which flows into a moderately tannic yet extended finish. Still on the upward slope so drink 2026-2040. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 91.

Opened and paired with seared tuna and mixed salad. Glowing golden color. Butterscotch-infused nose brings white flowers, sweet honeysuckle, hints of kiwi-lime, dusty chalk, and baked apple pie. The palate is medium-light, round, and textured, bringing deep orange fruit (mandarin oranges, apricots, peaches) mixed with sour green fruit (green apples, pears, and lime) that flows into a lengthy finish of honey, orange sorbet, almonds, kiwi, and petrol. This has fantastic weight with balanced acidity and nice oily viscosity. Drink soon: 2024-2027. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 93

Opened and paired with grilled chicken breast and mixed pasta salad. Pale straw color with a golden hue. Nose brings apricot blossoms, white peaches, tropical fruit basket, honeysuckle, and gun powder. The palate is medium, round, and razor sharp, bringing a steely core of green, yellow, and orange fruit (kiwi, green apple, pineapple, banana, tangerines, mango) followed by a distinctive mix of butterscotch, petrol, crushed stone, seashell, and orange sorbet into a long finish. This has a nice oily viscosity set against a bone-dry finish with an even sweet/dry feel, which puts everything into balance. Drinking well right now and will be best through 2028. Opened and decanted ahead of lime-aioli grilled chicken, seared asparagus, and mixed salad. Took about 45 min to open up. Dark purple color. Perfumed nose brings cherry blossoms, red lavender, cotton candy, and cinnamon spices. The palate is medium-large, square, and dense, bringing a nice core of dark and red fruit which flows into an extended, tannic finish. This has a long life ahead so will be best 2026-2036. Paired with salmon cake and mixed salad. Dark crimson-purple color with a violet hue. Muted nose brings red lavender, potpourri, and cherry menthol. The palate is medium, round, and jammy, bringing a nice core of dark fruit interlaced with high-toned cherry and raspberry notes, which leads into a tannic finish of cloves and black tea. This has a good frame and thick tannins which bodes well for further aging. However, right now this doesn't taste 'fresh' to me as the jammy fruit is distracting and bogs the palate down. I also detect some heat on the tail from higher alcohol (14.5%). Drink 2026-2034. Technical score: 90. Enjoyment score: 90.

The palate is full, square, and tangy, bringing a nice dark core of rhubarb, black licorice, and blackberries mixed with high-toned red cherries. Simmering beef stock, wild game, and mushroom soy sauce emerge on the tannic finish. This is drinking in a good early window now but will be best 2026-2032. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90.

Pale straw color with a green hue. Floral nose delivers orange blossoms, white peaches, petrol, and slate rock. The palate is medium, round, and viscous, bringing a nice core of kiwi-lime, green apples, lemon drops, and orange peel into a chalky finish. Good weight and texture despite being linear. Opened and paired with grilled chicken salad with all the Mediterranean fixings. Bright ruby-crimson color. Floral nose brings a variety of red flowers, anise, and cinnamon spices. The palate is medium, round, and supple, bringing a formidable combo of blue and red fruit intermixed with some tea, smoke, and orange peel into the finish. I found this a tad too jammy and sweet for my palate - to the point of being distracting - but willing to give this a few more years to even out since it was a ripe vintage and has a good backbone. This is much improved and accessible since our last tasting two years ago. Paired with a Mediterranean feast of grilled lamb, mixed cheeses, olives, pita, and asparagus. Good blue and red fruit delineation, but the punchline is its incredible concentration, acidity, drinkability, and length. This is a classic, old-school Napa Cab akin to Bordeaux St. Julien or Margaux. Drink 2024-2030. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment scoreL 93.

Took about 20-min to open up in bottle before pairing with grilled chicken, purple potatoes, and mixed salad. Perfumed nose of purple lavender, potpourri, grape compote, and sour candy. The palate is medium-light, round, and crunchy, bringing a nice core of blueberries, plums, sour rhubarb, and tea highlighted with red cherries and strawberries into a sweet finish. For my palate, it's still a little too sweet and hot on the tail so needs more time to balance out. Drink 2025-2030. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90.

This needed a half hour in bottle to open up before we paired with salmon cakes and garbanzo bean salad. Purple-crimson color. Floral nose brings potpourri, blueberry pie, and strawberry blossoms. The palate is medium, round, and textured, bringing a nice mix of high-toned raspberries and sour rhubarb into a tannic, woody finish. This should be a nice a case study in finesse and precision in a few years, but is still developing now. Drink: 2026-2032. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 93

Paired with a broiled NY Steak, roasted potatoes, and mixed salad after a day of skiing in spring snow. Dark purple-crimson color with heavy wood and wild flowers on the nose. The XL palate brought deep, dark blue fruit with red fruit highlights, savory tobacco, and elusive green pepper notes into a tannic wall of a finish. This is a monster wine and needs another 2+ years to integrate and develop (unlike most 2009 Bordeaux). Drink 2026-2034. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90.

Opened and decanted 2 hours ahead of traditional St. Paddy's Day dinner of roasted corned beef, boiled potatoes and cabbage, and Irish Soda Bread (rest assured, we had a delicious Reuben's Dry Stout before dinner too). This Grange had a bright Crimson color and a floral nose of potpourri, lavender, violets, roses, and beef stew. The palate is medium, round, and textured, bringing an incredible purity of fruit (pommegranite, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, rhubarb) mixed with secondary notes (licorice, wild herbs, wood smoke, olives, wild game) that hit the apron hard into a 2-minute extended finish. I wanted more from the nose but it was more than made up by the juicy acidity and extended, layered finish (i.e., extremely drinkable). Delightful wine that lived up to the hype. Drink 2024-2034. Consistent with notes nearly two years ago - natural wine, fizzy, super crunchy, rustic, and funky. This style tends to be polarizing. It's not opened up or settled down much since our last tasting, but not sure if it ever will either. I will say it pairs nicely with food, in our case Thai takeout leftovers. Drink 2024-2030. Opened and paired with a salmon/smashed potato/seared asparagus leftover scramble from the weekend. Did not need to decant. Dark crimson color. The nose was intense but brought strong wood influences. The medium palate brought a variety of blue and red fruit with medium acidity and thick tannins on the finish. This is definitely a crisp, polished wine compared to the rustic, earthy Pinots we usually drink. Still, stylistic preferences aside, this will improve and be best 2025-2032. Technical score: 91. Opened and paired with Caribbean jerk chicken, pasta salad, roasted potatoes, and asparagus. Was super funky and musty on opening, but blew off within 20-min (did not decant). Translucent dark ruby color with a crimson hue. Spicy nose brings potpourri, cinnamon sticks, wood smoke, orange bitters, and strawberry pie. The palate is medium-light, round, and tangy, bringing a core of pomegranate, sour rhubarb, raspberries, and blackberries followed by black tea, orange peel, and lingering candied strawberry notes into a jagged, tannic finish.
