Salmon pink in the glass. Fresh strawberry aroma. Eminently quaffable, soft and mellow, just enough acidity to balance melon and berry flavors. Crowd pleasing wine by the pool or with cold seafood salad. As I checked out the slick and inviting Apothic webiste, trying to learn what exactly is in this wine, I found that the winemaker does not reveal what grape vareitals are used or where they are from other than from somewhere in the state of California. The wine tastes great, but it sort of isn't really wine...it is a manufactured alcoholic beverage. There is a place for these products and this one is pleasurable to drink...there is nagging question however, about what am I really consuming? An industrial creation or an actual organic product made from plants? So probably I won't choose this again, just as I prefer to avoid industrial food products in favor of actual food.

Dark straw color in glass. Nose recalls fino sherry, nutty, saline. Very unusual wine, saline and savory, oxidized, at first fresh fino sherry almonds, sea air, then darker earthier mineral notes take over, making this quite unlike any sherry I have had. Quite good with a roasted cauliflower walnut salad.

Dark garnet in the glass. Very aromatic, blueberry, floral and spicy notes. Palate is a lovely balance of tangy acidity and dark fruit: blueberries, cassis. Some steel and pepper in the finish. I am not a fan of big fruity typical Aussie/Cali style wines, and I love this. Interesting to see the enormous range of ratings this wine gets...fruit bomb fans don't like it, savory wine fans find it very nice indeed.

Dark red-purple in the glass. Intense nose of cooked plums and cherries, baked bread. Up front on the palate is cooked cherries, really like a cherry pie--and a sensation of sweetness, but the finish is more tart and dry with a bit of tannic bite. Unusual, and I wonder if there is bottle variation here. It will be interesting to compare some other bottles.

Very different expression of pinot noir that Pacific northwest or CA...I really like this Finger Lakes version, this an excellent, well-made wine. Drinking wonderfully at 8 years and should do well with more age.
