I can imagine this potentially not lasting two days strong if it wasn't refrigerated somewhat soon after opening (and left open and uncooled for 4-5 hours), but that's what I did, and day 2 it is drinking better than day 1, but I didn't give it much of a chance the first day. Loving it day 2 though! If my hunch is correct, based on other reviews, this could fall off quick day 2, but it's singing now! Well balanced and put together, multifaceted, but I'm finding it's depth to be primarily tied to it's astringency, which is understandable for a 2015. It's hard to judge it's future based solely on day 2 as such, but I'm guessing 3-5 years until prime time.

Update: Day 3
It's even better day 3. But most telling is the fact the bottle sat on a shelf all night and was not cooled. I have to assume that these bottles have simply been in a dumb phase for most everyone, as my bottle sat over night from day 2 to day 3 without chilling in the fridge, and came out even better. So I feel like these are pretty safe to cellar for a bit.

7/16/18, 5:22 PM - I'm now on day 3, and the bottle sat all night on a shelf, and NOT cooled (very limited space in our rental fridge), and it's honestly better now than before. I think this has a lot of life in it's future, safe to cellar, just probably went through a confusing dumb phase, creating reviews that were as off as the timing of the bottle being drank. I'll update my main note as well. :)

Allow 20 minutes in bottle, 15 in glass for the wine to unravel and relax. Very balanced betwixt fruit and mineral earth. Was super simpatico with a PA blue cheese and with a Tome cheese the relationship was slightly contrasting.

Very nice CdP. Would have been low 90's if not for the little bit of VA I was getting on the nose.

Las Alturas - Bold, Monterey style Pinot. Similar to Le Crema Monterey Pinot Noir which is a much less expensive.
Clark & Telephone - upon initial opening, the wine tasted like air. After giving time to decant, the bottle opened lovely and was a nice soft style pinot. Most similar to a Washington pinot.
Dairyman - Harsh, overly oaked. Least favorite. Possibly will improve with age. Personally will avoid as I have concluded I do not like Sonoma style Pinot.
  • CamraMaan commented:

5/11/18, 5:03 AM - Hard to imagine this deserving a 70... which is an unfortunate rating, since it unnecessarily drops the overall rating much lower than it should be. A 70 point wine should be almost undrinkable by most anyone, versus simply not being your style.

5/13/18, 5:32 PM - Hmmm, well, considering other opinions, maybe you had a flawed bottle. A 70 point wine goes down my drain, personally. Even a 75. But in order for this stuff to justify that low of a score it would have to be flawed. Just my opinion.

This was a wine of two totally different worlds. I have gone off Quilceda unfortunately over the past few years. The stoniness of the palate is too austere for me normally and not enjoyable.

I decanted half for 4 hours and this was beautiful and the WOTN together with Matriarch. It changed dramatically. The stoniness was gone and the wine was smooth and integrated. Some light gunpowder on the nose.

5/11/18, 5:30 AM - So was this worth the 85 rating after the 4 hour decant...? It doesn't sound like it from your review, so if not, why the 85...?

On the nose it is very promising, but on the palette it disappoints: though it is quite rich when lingering in the mouth, but after drinking it quickly dissipated into oblivion. No aftertaste to speak off. Paid too much for this in comparison to what it delivers. I will not buy again even though the 2015 vintage has an higher RP score in barrel (96-99),which is probably overrated like this vintage scoring of 95.
Also don't believe the wine will still hold long in cellar: there are very few tannins left, if any, to sustain it across the coming years.

Honeycomb, nutty. Went perfectly with cheese.

In one word - vile. It smelled and tasted like a combination of turpentine and acetone. I spilled my glass in the sink and rinsed thoroughly before using the glass again - partly because I didn't want the last drop to mix into the next wine and partly because I wasn't sure if this stuff might dissolve my glass.
  • CamraMaan commented:

5/20/13, 3:44 AM - If it was that bad it was likely a spoiled bottle, which is very unfortunate. However to give it a score of 50, which plays into the overall average rating, isn't quite fair if it was a spoiled bottle. I can appreciate a low score if you don't believe it was a spoiled bottle, and you simply did not appreciate the wine, but I would save an actual score for something like that. For a spoiled bottle I would recommend no score at all. Personally, when researching wine to buy, I do pay attention to overall ratings...
