An intense Napa experience from a WA wine. Explosive oak and jam. Wasn't surprised to see it was 50% Merlot. Love this.

Delicious and a smooth operator with lamb. Opened with 70% chocolate and slowly worked its way down the ladder to an easy melting milk chocolate. Superb!

Two hour decant and ready to drink. A tad light on its feet with a smooth finish. Blueberry and flowers. A nice light Syrah to drink on a warm late Spring night.

Light on its toes and my tongue. A hint of strawberry sweetness casts a spell. Trey knocked it out of the park.

A bit of acid on the front, then some smooth oak/butter, vague pear, and tongue coating acid finish.

A light Grenache with a touch of sweetness and very little earthiness. Went superbly with medium rare salmon. A surprisingly good Grenache.

Much more subdued this time around but still strong. Less cedar and oak, less alcohol, but more red fruit. Still a delicious, smooth new Napa Cab but starting to come into a relaxed phase.

2005 Nicholas Cole Cellars Reserve Walla Walla Valley Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)

I'm down to perhaps three Nicholas Cole bottles, all the reserve Cabernet. It's been an amazing ride with a winery that closed up shop during the recession. Honestly, they made some of the best wine in the state of WA, so it's sad to think about what could have been... Anyway, drank this with some brisket and a side of Pig Iron Mustard BBQ sauce.

The color was a bit brickish and the nose showed a bit of age, but when combined with the food, it was totally singing! Very balanced, lush, yet not heavy, with plenty of fruit left. Next thing I know, I had drank almost all the bottle! I saved some for the next night, but by then it was more acidic than I preferred and a bit muted. I think I caught it just past its peak, but close enough to be thoroughly enjoyable.

Drank over three days. Even on the third day, too bright for my taste. Probably best with food.

Decanted 4 hours. Smooth, velvety and very fruity. Maybe a little green on the nose. A little hot but so lush that it’s easily masked. A beautiful wine. Christopher Robin would feel at home!

Popped and poured. Smooth juice with low acid, some blue fruits and a dusty, chalky palate. Enjoyable.

Sous vide steak dinner, hot fireplace, wife, kitten, kids in bed, 2015 Myriad in Zalto's. Life at its absolute best.

Next day: I have to echo the previous reviewers that this wine is a awesome, assuming you like this style (I don't like it... I love it). Backbone of wood (evergreen/oak), cassis, vanilla and dark fruit. Young, with some heat, but right where I want it to be...

Pleasantly surprised by this one. Lots of fruit with some sweetness backed by nice layer of tannin. Not *too* hot. Showed pretty damn well and is clearly a MS wine. Grooooovy!

First bottle I had of this, in October, was an intense rocket blast. Second bottle had a different profile, much more subdued and a bit lighter. Pretty good, but felt like a shadow of the previous bottle. Hanging onto my last bottle and hoping for the best. Excellent QPR!

Our first Rivers-Marie! We popped and poured this young one while trimming the tree. WOW! Green pepper laid over cedar and oak. Rocket fuel to get you to the cassis and vanilla planet. Way too intense to drink more than half a bottle. Next day, big graphite nose and just a little more subdued. This bottle did not disappoint, but I sure hope it settles down over the next couple of years or it may blow up in the bottle.

A bit too acidic and hollow until we started our dinner. Wow! Totally opened up and filled our palate with our beef carpaccio. The usual earthy tones. Must remember to drink with food.

PnP with marinated flank steak. Medium body, full fruit with more acid than I expected. Dusted blackberries. Good, but... Second day with lasagna and much better. Tannin showed up and less acid.

A little hot initially. This blew off and to my thoughts, a little more acid than tannins. Also not as dark as I had hoped. Second day the acid lessened and the tannins made more of a showing. More balanced and smooth with a better mouth feel. Dark fruit and less heat. Good bottle, and clearly a WA wine.

Don't feel bad opening this now. Low to medium tannin and medium acidity. Not as full bodied as I wished, but certainly in line with this price point. A solid drinker.

PnP. Mild tannins, a little light, with fruit tending toward the cherries. Clearly a WA Cab blend. A good bottle for a casual Friday with pizza. Easy to finish in one sitting.

Purchased from Buty several years ago and we finally got around to opening one. Decanted 30 minutes. Initially a tad hot with some WA Syrah funk. That blew off in 15 minutes and the wine settled down for the evening, becoming more smooth with just a hint of sweetness. Definitely a food wine. Great bottle that lived up to its namesake.

What happened to this wine? Three years ago it was sublime, but it has since faded fast. Now a pruney Shiraz, a fine grape turned raisin. I'm going to drink all my pre-2005 Shiraz ASAP.

Look, I'm lucky to be drinking this. You should be so lucky. Well integrated fruit and smooth graphite. Some tannins. Not at its peak? I love this but my wife prefers the long shadows sequel, but what does she know. Ok it caused me to drop cheese on Andreas hair, but it's a great bottle.

The cork was stained all the way to the top, where the lip of the cork splayed out over the top of the bottle. Came out really easy due to the wine lubricant. Burnt marshmallows on the nose without strong flavors. Opened up a bit over the next 4 -5 hours, but one dimensional and disappointing.
