Enticing, incisive chalk-infused nose, slightly austere, is very fresh and lively with a slight floral suggestion and very delicate lemon tone. Equally incisive penetratingly sharp flavor of white fruits shows a bit of residual sugar as warms. Classic style, just slightly marred by sweetish overlay on palate and in finish. Disgorged 7/2014

Compared to a 2008 Bollinger Grand Annee, the complexity here and overall mouthfeel outdid the Bolly. I was wondering what everyone was crowding around in the back room, but quickly figured it out. Pours to a light pale straw hue. Nose of creme brulee and cashew. Entry with small bubbles. Very oxidative style and does not care what you think about that! Does not have high acid. I was getting peaches and pears, with a nice oxidative bready creaminess with a rather smooth and long tiny bubble finish. Wow. Not sure I've ever had a Champagne like this.

14,5% alcohol.

Quite concentrated, deep honeyed yellow color with bright lime-green hue. Incredibly complex, attractive and nicely developed nose with intense and even somewhat robust aromas of baking pices, toasty nuttiness, dried pineapple, ripe apricot, some hay, a little bit of apple purée and a boozy hint of alcohol. The wine is concentrated, very full-bodied and oily on the palate with very ripe and sweet flavors of red apple, pronounced nectarine, piercing mineral flavors of steel and wet stones, beeswax, some roasted nuts and spices, a little bit of hay, a hint of cantaloupe, a touch of apple purée and a delicate undertone of bitterness. Although the wine is heavy, somewhat sweet and really powerful, it still, paradoxically, comes across as lighter and more elegant than Massa's Derthona 2015 and Costa del Vento 2015, tasted alongside. The finish is very powerful, concentrated and even very slightly grippy with a hint of tannic bite. There are vibrant and intense flavors of apple purée, peach, very noticeable nectarine character, steely minerality and wet stones, some hay, a little bit of roasted almonds, a hint of cloudberry jam and a hint of baking spice in the aftertaste. Although the wine is very concentrated with very big body, its high - almost racy - acidity carries along beautifully from the initial attack to the last lingering hints of the aftertaste.

A stunning, impressively and very concentrated example of Timorasso, that is starting to show the first signs of development, yet is still very youthful and primary - just beginning its voyage to the plateau of maturity! Despite its almost monolithic character, the wine isn't too heavy nor at all flabby, but instead very bright, fresh and harmonious, carrying its concentrated fruit with remarkable ease. The greatest Timorasso I've tasted this far and I can imagine the wine can attain even higher score as it ages. Pricey at 45€, but still worth the money. Very highly recommended.

The filling-level was upper shoulder. There was some mouldy seepage under the capsule and the cork slid into the bottle as soon as I tried to extract it, but overall the bottle was in good condition. The wine was medium to dark garnet in colour and offered prune, leather, tobacco, grilled whole fish and Asian spices on the nose. On the palate, the wine showed dried dark fruit, prune, dried cranberry, dried cherry, tobacco and Asian spices, with lively acidity, fully resolved tannin and good to very good length. The wine was a little sandpapery and slightly drying on the finish, but overall a very good 1975. Maybe a little rustic, and it is slowly going downhill, but I give it extra credit for standing up to Nachos. Drink up.

I really enjoy opening a bottle of 1975 once a year and picturing that wine as a person, comparing it with myself. As a person, this good old boy certainly seemed older than I feel, more between my father and my grandfather in years, entering into the last stage of his life. At times, this good old guy seemed energetic, but he is fading. He has stories to tell and occasionally he is fun, and he is strong and has character, but we both know that he has seen better days and that there is not enough of that precious time left to share...

Ethereal nose of fresh raspberries, dried citrus peel, rose petals, all tightly bounded by a subtle, floral note. Immensely balanced and poised on the palate, with composed, elegant tannins, refreshing acidity, and an understated materia that is supported by very pure, clean fruit: more raspberries, sour cherry, sweet spice, and a tight-wound minerality. Great length. A deeply aristocratic wine, which is a pellucid ambassador of the Sassella terroir. No concessions to modernity here. This is simply a very well made wine, from an excellent vineyard. A superior expression of Nebbiolo.

Should certainly improve with age. My experience with wines from the Valtellina is that they are grossly underrated and offer much better value than the Langhe.

great stuff, big pinot noir from Toscana. Youthful, still. Huge nose of spices and smoke, complex palate (not perfectly consistent with nose) made of balsamic herbes and tobacco, with some unripe red fruit. Acidity still there assuring still long life ahead. Really outstanding, highly recommended. Lacks some elegance which may come with some additional cellaring (92/93). On day two, scents and tastes are almost gone...so drink up the first day

I love love love this producer and hope they never, ever, catch on in a big way. BTW, you must drink this in a Burg glass. Throwing a little sediment in last sips. Looks to be unfiltered although the color is a brilliant, almost translucent, light red. I've never had a disappointing btl of this wine. Sign me up for this wine in any vintage. A "house favorite"!

Young but I think some funk will develop. There is a start of an earthiness. Also some floral notes. On the palate, dark cherries. Very nice but not as complex as the nose. Perhaps with time. Light tannins. This retail for close to $60. Lots of competition at that price point, but it is a lovely wine.

Deepish ruby, with some bricking at the rim. There's some obvious oak on the nose, but it's still allowing the cabernet sauvignon to show through. The fruit is a little roasted, though, but it is proper Haut-Medoc on the nose. Fullish body, with good density in the mouth and good ripeness, especially for the vintage. Despite the impression of slightly roasted fruit on the nose, the palate has a cool climate character. Yet it doesn't spell Bordeaux in the mouth - I find I'm drawing a parallel with Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon. In drinking this wine for nearly a decade, I find I have oscillated between thinking this wine New Worldly on the one hand, and proper Bordeaux on the other. Yet, it has generally been very good over this time. This particular bottle, with which I bade adieu to the wine, was a notch better. The fruit wasn't falling off. Very good plus. A nice goodbye.

Yet more proof the French dump their undrinkable dross on us unsuspecting bumpkin convicts. And they charge us royally for the privilege as well. Sharp acidic fruit dominates. It registers a grand zero on the complexity scale with no hints of yeast, toastiness or anything else to lift the wine. Was this even aged on the lees? Extraordinarily delicious Vermentino from Sardinia - great producer, outstanding wine, drinking perfectly now but will last. Vermentino doesn't get much better than this

8/21/14, 3:05 PM - try Vermentino di Gallura "Tuvaoes" from Giovanni Cherchi... You'll find that it is the best Vermentino (second only to Capichera,).

I bought this and another bottle at a wine store in Saratoga, New York purely on speculation. I dragged my youngest adult son hours across the Adirondack's in search of a decent wine store in upstate New York; footnote: there are none. Anyway, this small production, cooperatively produced Piemontese Nebbiolo blend is a quite delightful wine. Well worth our trek across NY. Full of heady, rose bud aromatics. Round and balanced in the mouth. A long, slightly sweet finish with just a touch of tannins. At about $25.00 per bottle it is a bit pricey for an everyday house wine but I can guarantee that any bottles you open up at home won't last the evening.

8/12/14, 2:37 PM - bottle ran empty this evening. Great wine from Valle d'Aosta. Best Picotendro on the Valle. Price here is 12 eur per bottle. Your tasting note convinced me to try this beautiful wine, Thanks

Three hour decant and then drank over an hour. Expecting to be disappointed based on highly variable notes from other vintages, however this was superb. Very dark purple to the rim, almost black. From there it was high end Oakville cab meets Brunello. Luscious and expressive nose gives up a huge amount of plums, cassis, black licorice, cedar and a vanilla frosting-like sweetness. Nice structure with ample grip but also layered and refined, providing multiple waves on the long, mineral-driven finish.

I'll keep the rest in the cellar for 2-3 years.

2009 Caves Coopératives de Donnas Donnas Nebbiolo Blend, Nebbiolo

Molto persistente.
Bel vino.

Colore ambrato. Nette note dominanti di albicocca, poi frutta disidratata, fichi secchi, miele di castagno, confettura di pesche. Morbido, avvolgente, "oleoso", molto intenso e ricco.

Hot with alcohol.
Nose with acetone, oak and pepper.
Palate was hot and with vanilla and oak, some oil and a long finish.
To hot and too much wood.
Overall impression, and my guess, was that this actually was some overextracted and rotor fermented new Nebbiolo mishmash from Piemonte, in Parker style, made by some village idiot trying to make a clumsy Barolo.
Really bad, stay away.
