Decent champagne. Slightly red fruited, light brioche. Nice to see how it ages. Garden drinking fizz.

Got in a recent auction mixed lot. Looks old, the colour is of Brown sherry. However what is in the glass in remarkable. Limes intermixed with barley sugar. Sweet and with lovely zingy acidity. Classic mature, sweet Riesling with all the character.

Confirming that this is a very good wine in the context of this vintage. Still youthful, lots of ripe cassis fruit. Low acidity but enough lift to give it lift and focus and the tannins are well in check. Now or over the next couple of decades.

Penultimate bottle. Very good, maturing nicely, red fruits, tobacco leafy, gravel, almost Graves-like. Good density of fruit, lean, still a bit of tannin but deepening flavour.

Found this in the bottom of a box. Still holding up and distinct rose flavours. Sound but it has past it’s peak for sure. Drink up.

Surprisingly still alive. Red fruits after a six hour slow oxygenation. Faded but no sign of decay. Slightly ferrous like many wines from this vintage.

The archetypal food friendly Bordeaux. Red fruits with a decent savourybedge. On its own decent but not to get excited about. With rump of lamby and salsa verde, perfect accompaniment.

Big and gruff, old style Burgundy. Hasn’t improved much in the 4 years since I last tried it. Not my style.

Decent wine, looked its age on decanting but it seemed to taste more youthful as it opened up. In the end quite a burly red. In a Brunello style, red fruits with a hint of herbs.

Another bottle where some heat was showing. Not stewed or cooked but black fruits with a slightly roasted character. I’m not enjoying this vintage of this wine overall.

Over 5 years since my last bottle and this has barely evolved. Still quite a purple colour, , not much on the nose. Dense fruit, bit of bramble, quite bloody. Some tannin. Drinkable now but tastes very young. Would last for years but I don’t think it would improve much.

Fridge wine. Light oak, nice flinty flavour with a hint of butter and smoke. For the price of £12.50 this is pretty credible and decent. I will get some more.

Not changed much in 2 years, softened a little. Still quite a purple wine, masses of cassis on the nose, tannic still but not aggressive now. Vibrant blackcurrant wine. This will improve. Lovely wine.

Light wine but in good condition after a slow oxygenation for 6 hours. Nose of rosehips, light tea and faded tobacco. Red currant and cranberry flavours, slightly confected fruit, light wine but plenty of vigour. Nice mature Bordeaux.

Slow oxygenated for 6 wines. Healthy condition. Pale red, aged. Light red fruits nose, taste of rosehips. Faded but enjoyable, just a slight hint of VA. Caught it in time.

Old. The cork stopper was soaked and broke on opening. I managed to get it out without breaking up. Tawny colour, tawny flavour. Nice condition, medium rather than sweet, nutty and subtle old tawny flavours. Mellow. Pleasant rather than great.

Best bottle so far. Now starting to show some softening maturity. Lots of bloody red fruits. Bramble with some depth. Nice, but it isn’t Cote Rotie or Hermitage quality.

Thickness and colour of motor oil. Coats the glass. Big nose of aged raisins, floral notes in the background. Huge. Intense sweetness, mouth coating like a PX sherry on steroids. Masses of dense raisin and a nice aged rancio edge. Love it.

Over four hours this went from fruity and truffly to thin and rasping to a bit of pine but not much fruit. Overall, meh. A good example of why I don’t understand the appeal some find in Barolo.

If I was tasting this blind I’d say it was a very good Morey Saint Denis. Very Burgundian in style. Cherries, earth and floral nose. Lovely fruit intensity, fine Pinot character. Impressive.

After a dead bottle this was much better despite a quite heavily depressed cork. It came out nearly whole. Lost a glass to sediment. Looks it’s age but a healthy garnet. Mature claret nose, mostly cassis dominated. Still plenty of fruit, weak blackcurrants but nicely mature. Rounded as I remember this vintage (not had one for 13 years). Fully mature but still holding well. Just a hint of acidity showing. Needs drinking but a nice wine.

Picked up 5 of these cheaply at auction recently. This one was mid shoulder and had signs of seepage. Slow oxygenation for 6 hours couldn’t revive it. Oxidised and too far gone. Open another.

I can rarely remember a more intense wine. Masses of red fruits infused with deep raisin notes. Class. Real power and intensity in the flavour. Perhaps could do with a touch more depth mid palate but this is so long, balanced and sweet. An absolutely classic Tawny.

Typical Rhone villages. A little hard at first but it softened a bit with air and would probably be better on day 2 at this stage (I had tasted an opened bottle at Majestic and the weekend which was more expressive). Red fruits with a hint of raspberry. Hearty.
