Alcohol, Herbal lift, bayleaf, garrigue, freshness, red plum/tart dark red cherry, Tapenade. Hints of cocoa powder, Can almost smell the tannins. Although only composed of 10% Syrah it pops out of the mix. Medium weight juice, Balanced. Grippy tannic frame, underlying acidity keeps this moving with energy. Concentration, Clean fruit profile, Interesting mix of fresh ripe mid palate fruit and sappiness on the finish with a spicy/peppery tang. salinity, Nose fruits reflected on palate. At 14.5% alc. this packs a Punch. Seeing a Pro’s rating 2 points short of Perfection at this time makes me wonder how critics stay relevant. Its enjoyable now but waiting 2-3 years for it to settle down will certainly help. Drink over the next 12 years… Na zdrowie
Day 2 – Little change, aromatics slightly more subdued, acidity more pronounced

This was another excellent bottle. The nose presents an ethereal cherry perfume with hints of red apple and cinnamon which carry forward to a soft palate of velvety tannins and perfect acidity. An amazing combination of elegance and depth.

This one stood out in tasting of all the Tempier wine, however in different vintages. Has reached optimal maturity, showing beautiful aromas of dark cherries, blueberries, thym and eucalyptus. Silky tannins, full bodied, coates the mouth With intense aromas of dark berries, minerals, Earth and animal tones. Long ond fresh aftertaste. Does Bandol get any better?

Had the '13 vintage of this previously, and this is still a pretty good QPR even at a couple bucks more at $8. Light straw yellow color. Aromas of waxy yellow fruit, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, beeswax, and saline. Medium body and finish, medium (+) acid, and flavors of lemon, lime, cantaloupe, honeydew, pear, green apple, honey, and lingering minerality and a light bitterness on the back end. Pretty solid.

Absolutely gorgeous saturated pink rose color portend a serious rose wine. The profile is all strawberries, watermelon rind, and citrus pith with lingering herbal elements. Acidity is elevated, and if I'm being picky, the wine finishes with a bit of tannic astringency that may need some time to resolve.

Dark ruby with red cherries on the nose. Dry with some tart tannins, medium cherry fruit, just a hint of stone fruit bitters which adds complexity. Open for several days, getting better with open time and drinking very well now. Good on it's own, but calls for some food as an Italian syle wine should. WA Sangio is one of my favorites of the region.

lightest straw golden color. Nose slightly closed at first when cold -- opens up with time. lightly grassy, some florals/honey. Palate rounded fruit flavor, light lemon and prominent oyster shells, dry. Good depth if questionable QPR. Could definitely seeing it developing more complexity with age, though. 91 pts

I'm about as big of a Bedrock fan as it gets, but this wine was a hot mess at PnP. A massive oak bomb that I could barely stand to take a sniff of. Let it sit in the bottle for 4 hours and it settled down some to reveal some purple florals and red fruits....but still masked by a wall of oak. I love the Evangelo story and always want to like these wines more but they're never my favorite Bedrock offering. Combine that with the fact that pretty much all single vineyard BR wines I've tried from the 13 vintage seem to need a LOT more time, makes this a complete and utter HOLD.

Day 2 and this has toned down quite a bit with the oak much less prominent. Now a nice wine with savory purple fruits and a hint of orange/citrus on the finish (long finish which is probably my favorite part). Definitely better tonight compared to yesterday, but still not setting my world on fire. I'll take a Bedrock/Dolinsek/Pagani/Mo nteRosso Heritage over this any day of the week.

Absolutely stunning. Exactly what a perfect sauternes should be. Big, full, rich bouquet of apricot, grand marnier, honeysuckle, peach, pear, apple, and layer upon layer of fruit. Perfect balance. Voluptuous, phenomenal. Can hold, but it is really terrific right now. Beats the 01 d'Yquem we tasted last year.

At tasting. Brief note. Best white of the tasting and certainly contender for WOTN among all the great reds on the table. Pours a light golden straw in the glass. Blind I would've thought this was no more than 6-8 years old. Nose too is exceedingly fresh and painfully intense with rich notes of mango puree, baked pears, guava, pineapple, searing tart lemon, a plethora of german baking spice and fine powdery minerals. Midpalate foreshadows the finish as it builds up layers of tropical fruits in tandem with the citrus and minerals with great intensity and life. This was crystalline and round at the same time with finesse on the extremely long finish that just makes your eyes roll into the back of your head. A near religious experience.

Pnp right from the cellar.

Nice vibrant nose, cherries and violets.

Raspberry with maybe a little strawberry, cassis, slight saline quality which I enjoy, almost like the beginning hint of salted meat, without the gamy aftertaste. Medium long, bone dry finish.

Really a terrific wine and very well executed. Much better than the bottle I consumed earlier in the week, which suggests it was an off bottle.

At around 8 years of age, this is now a pnp wine for me. I have a passive cellar and will aim to drink these over the next year. If you have a refrigerated cellar, perhaps you can get away with a bit more time. Either way, drink now or over the next year.

Day 2 update:

Saved about 1/3 of the bottle to try the next day. It is still drinkable but half the wine it was on day 1. Has a more subdued, earthy funk to it that it did not have yesterday. Fruit is also a bit more faded. Still good, but knocked it out of the park for me day 1.

Although a skewed comparison, we opened a 2013 Blackbird Arise Napa Bdx (approx 2/3 merlot and 1/3 CS, with maybe some PV), much richer which the wife preferred over this wine on day 2. I still preferred the Senejac as the Blackbird was a bit rough out of the gate. I presume the Blackbird will taste better tomorrow.

Tasted blind. Medium (+) ruby with purple hues. The nose is a little closed at first, and becomes quite more expressive after a couple of hours, with aromas of black fruit, plum, herbs, neutral oak spice and cheese rind. The palate is dry, tight, tart, with medium (+) acidity, tannins and alcohol (13.5%). The palate is consistent with the nose, with medium intensity and length, with a slightly bitter licorice and herbal finish. This is clearly a cool to moderate climate, Old World wine. The relative youthfulness of the color, nose and palate (and the lack of obvious Cabernet markers) threw me off track and made me think of a Barbera. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, aged 12 months in oak of which 33% new. Rated 90 now, with good upside potential. In hindsight, this wine could use at least another year of aging and could probably last for a decade beyond that.

From a bottle I've had in the cellar for 3+ years now. PnP. Medium perlage and a fine mousse. Pours a deeper copper red than the younger bottles. Nose and palate have not necessarily evolved much other than gaining more depth to the red and citrus fruits and midpalate textures and integrating the acids nicely. This however was eminently gulpable and moreish so much so that I'm embarrassed to say the bottle was savored quickly over 20 minutes. Will definitely be cellaring future bottles of this to reach this plateau again. Great with bbq chicken and sides.

Clear, medium intensity, ruby color.

Youthful and fruit-forward nose. Black cherry, plum skin and black raspberry along with some prune, savory spice, violets, balsamic notes, turned soil and paint bucket. Bigger and deeper than the previous vintages.

Medium(+) body, smooth tannins and high acidity. Bone dry with very good intensity. Black fruit, sour cherry, balsamic notes and earthy spice. It ends with a fresh, lingering finish. A rock solid wine that always brings great QPR. This vintage has more oumph and intensity and more potential for aging. Drinking great today with some 30 minutes of aeration but will benefit from a couple of years in the cellar.

Even in a style and region I don't often gravitate toward, I generally trust Andrew Will to make good wine. This was pleasant, surprisingly light on its feet for the alchohol and varieties. Blueberry, blackberry, quite ripe but not particularly jammy. More pure and focused than I expected. Nice minerality on the finish, although it's a little short -- not a surprise at this price point, but I'd hoped for more. Good value; definitely worth buying and opening a bottle or two if you see it locally.

Fresh off the truck! Literally...these just arrived as I was heating up lunch and had already pulled something else, but since I grabbed these as a potential option to bring to Thanksgiving dinner and I'm having roasted chicken and leeks with a tomato sauced pasta with herbs, why not get into one? Let's do it!

So right off the bat this is reminding me of a previous instance where I've had Rhône wine made by a Burgundian winemaker—in that case it was a Cotes-du-Rhône, but the approach and style is quite similar, with their grenache-driven blend (60% here, along with 30% syrah and 10% mourvèdre) and more delicate touch. Straight ruby color with transparency. Nose is a little tight —I should note that I rarely drink wines of any kind this young, but this was sold as approachable now and I have a near term plan for it—but I'm getting some dark red fruits, white pepper, chalk, and Provençal herbs. Coming back to edit this as I sit with it longer, I'm also getting some lavender and soil notes, along with a vegetal component like radish. The body, acid, and finish are medium, and I'm getting flavors of mad cherry here —kirsch, red and black, and cough drop is all there—along with plum, black tea, orange peel, and a lining of minerals. I'm getting a light tannic grip post meal, but this really is accessible already. This will go fantastically with turkey day meal, especially considering the cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and all that good stuff, but would also rock with roasted duck with hoisin sauce, pork carnitas, or BBQ. Kinda wish I'd have bought more than 4 @ $20/ea. Good QPR and enjoyable juice.

This was poured blind. As context, I don't buy much Cab, especially those from Napa. Will poured this to our glasses and we got after it. The ABV is 14.5% and initially, I got some heat. I'm pretty sensitive to alcohol but in the context of the tasting, I wanted to be honest and made the comment. Herbal, cedar and dark cherry, with finishing tannin and a chewy finish. What this wine showed, aside from the aromatic, is some true Cab qualities, which for me seems to get lost in the modern style, IMO. I plan to buy a couple of these and re-taste the wine again in the Fall, as I like what is here. If the alcohol shows again at that time, then at least I will know I have a confirmation of it, as others at the table tasting it did not find it like I did.

Mike Smith Tasting and Wine Dinner - Carter, Myriad, Scarlett, Quivet, Becklyn, Patine... & a SQN for fun! (San Francisco): Certainly an outlier among the wines tasted, the 2014 Becklyn Moulds was a puckering, tight blast of sour cherry, pomegranate, red raspberry, vanilla-laced alcohol, red vanilla Creamsicle, and more alcohol. I tasted this a number of times over the course of three+ hours. It didn't change much at all in terms of its delivery. We were all trying to figure out how to best navigate through this wine's display of flavors, as it was kicking and screaming on the palate in a way that we had trouble discerning what we were actually tasting. It was night and day compared to the other wines at the table.

A bit of a confusing ride for me with this wine. For those holding bottles, I would not open this wine for at least 2-3 years minimum. I truly think a lot of this is a timing issue at the moment. I admittedly don't have a lot of historical experience with this site or this wine, but everything from Moulds seems to not fit my preferred flavor profile. I'll chalk it up to that. This is simply going to be one of those wines I think I'll leave to others who like a redder, higher-toned display of fruit. Nothing technically wrong with the wine best as I could tell; it just behaves super young and super red (almost like a bright red cherry Pinot).

Ripe blackcurrant, polished oak, chocolate and spice…actually this is, with time, a little more controlled than I initially thought it would be…more of the same o the palate with a touch of herbaceousness that, when coupled with the alcohol and fruit extraction, puts me in mind of port....

2010 Domaine des Huards (Michel Gendrier) Cour-Cheverny Romorantin
Wow wine for the AFWE! This was magical. Purchased on release, this is ageing so well. Some petrol notes, with chalky stones washed in orange juice. With time in the glass, some candied citrus notes. The palate is light bodied, but tries its best to be medium bodied. Notes of jagged lanolin and wood, spun with a thread of orange zest. The nose then goes into this crazy, ever-changing mineral-citrus-stone fruit quest, and my head is spinning. As it warms, some more body moves in, but the acids are electric, and the wine just short-circuits my brain. I had my first one of these soon after release - not too exciting, this one, just a trip. I wish I had cases. And cases. Drink thru 2026. Thrilling. 100% Romorantin. 12,0% abv. highly recommended

PnP, served non-blind. With an oven-roasted chicken bedecked with slices of lemon and herbs, just perfect.

2010 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Nebbiolo

Opening Remark: Some people I have spoken with have expressed the viewpoint that 2010 vintage Barbaresco (and Barolo) is generally less fresh and lively (presumably because of lower acid levels) than the 2011 vintage, and will therefore be shorter-lived. One of the supporting arguments advanced in defense of this perspective is that Produttori del Barbaresco declassified their single vineyard fruit in 2010, though not in 2011, and that representatives of this producer tout the 2011 vintage's freshness and approachability. While I readily concede that many 2011 vintage Barbarescos are fresher and more approachable than many 2010s, I could not disagree more that the 2010 vintage is of lesser quality and will not age as long. The 2010s are deeply substantive, feature powerful yet balanced (acid and tannic) frames, and require many years to unwind. Proponents of the 2011 Barbaresco vintage as superior to 2010 make an argument similar to that pertaining to the 2009 and 2010 Bordeaux vintages: notably that both are of equal quality, or even that the 2009 is superior because of its fruitiness, freshness, and approachability. Again, I disagree, and widely regard the 2009 Bordeaux vintage as flash-in-the-pan sexy, but lacking phenolic ripeness, and therefore unable to deliver substantive essences.

This wine offers a noteworthy example of the profound yet presently restrained 2010 Barbaresco vintage, and it will disappoint without a long decant. Without air it shows a mostly reticent bouquet, high-pitched red fruit, and little tannic substance. With air, or on the second and third days, the bouquet becomes spectacularly floral with strong berry, herbal, earth, phenol, and petrol notes. On the palate, the wine bares it teeth, delivering a profoundly layered and rounded mouthfeel, with tremendous range, definition, and grip, followed by a long, thought-provoking finish. It will likely begin to unwind by 2022 and offer pleasures beyond 2030. I do not know why Produttori declassified their 'Cru' fruit in this vintage but I am thankful that they did. 93-94.

2015 Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Etna DOC Nerello Blend, Nerello Mascalese
{winery visit} Tasted along with all of the 2015 Cru wines, this is very nice, but lags behind the epic 2014; classic build, avg structure and length. It's the Etna Rosso you already know and love.

Nose was strawberries and flowers, on the palate I thought there is more than enough fruit. Strawberry spice and other red berries, really silky on the mid palate. Acidity is strong but not overbearing. Excellent and I am buying more.

2012 Domaine de Montille Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey Pinot Noir
En-Primeur Tasting: Very impressive with a stack of potential. This shows the elegant nature of this wine already - very cool, serene fruit with an undercurrent of spices and cherries. Elegant. Should be very good.
