Good. I wouldn't go so far as great. Seemed less vibrant than in previous vintages. At $24, I can do better.
Red
Brought to Compass Rose Bedouin tent for traditional birthday dinner. Ethereal, red fruit, beets, earth. Lovely.
Red
I love this wine. Only Zin I consistently enjoy.
Red
Great stuff. Took a while to come together after opening. Once it did, it was lovely.

Drank this last summer in Pawleys so I don’t remember much at this point, other than I really liked it. Super light color, very natural wine profile. Cranberries, raspberries, some earth, and cab franc greenish notes (in a good way). Excellent stuff.
Red
Man, I love this wine. So funky, so complex. Earthy and ethereal at the same time. It really stands completely apart from the lesser cuvées to me. The others aren’t rebuys for me, but I’d grab more of this in a second if I could find it, even at almost $40/bottle.
Red
Made pasta cooked in red wine out of this. The one glass I did drink seemed a bit better than my previous bottle, but I don’t really regret cooking with this.
Red
Cracked open one of these to close our Loire tasting/Mark's birthday. So, so good. Brooklynguy spot on, as usual. Light and lovely and evolved very rapidly in the glass. Once it opened up I got some canned green beans (I know, but in a good way), along with the usual Raffault notes. Drank immediately after decant and there were so many of us that I didn't have much of chance to watch it, but it was probably at its best after 30-45 minutes and then started to slowly fade.
White
This was delicious. Unusual grape/region, but it has a bit of a Northern Rhone thing going on. Less heavy than many a Condrieu but some of the same underlying fruits and a notable creaminess. Also some salinity and good acid. Really excellent value.

Big bowl of buttered popcorn. Malo gone bad. Boo.
Red
Bigger than their Canary wines, purple and grapey, most reminiscent of cru Beaujolais but the fruit is darker in quality. Very enjoyable. I liked this, but I’m in love with the Benje.

Exactly what Beerzebub said, except maybe it made me smile a bit more. If one were to be stuck in Lodi, one could do far worse.
Red
Excellent as always. For me, it’s not Broc’s most charismatic offering, but there is obvious quality and deliciousness.

I have to admit, I’m really kinda digging the macvins. Interesting and complex, but not pricey. Of course, you can’t fear the sugar, but if you do, you’re already missing out on spatlese, auslese, Sauterne, and Madeira, so if that’s how you roll I really can’t help you.

I liked this Montbourgeau even better than Ganevat, which was good other than an annoying burnt rubber note. The most notable flavor that jumps out in here is orange rind, almost Cointreau-like, but way better. Very enjoyable bottle drunk over the course of a week or so.

Such a good value in aged palo cortado. Caramel, lots of nutty goodness, salt (flor), and a citrus vein that helps to keep everything relatively light and gulpable.

As the Hombres G would say,

Solid as always and ridiculous qpr. To nitpick, this particular bottling struck me as slightly more filtered/sterile than bottles consumed over the past couple of years, or maybe the saca occurred when the flor was a bit down.

This is a great, basic, weeknight amontillado. On the light end of the style, which helps accentuate its saline/biological qualities. This won't blow you away, but as a $17/750ml bottle of wine, it's hard to do much better. Briords, Coudert, sure, but this has the added advantage of lasting for weeks or months open in the fridge.
White
Not my favorite year for Pépière, but still is there any better way to spend $13?
Rosé
Rare rosé de Gigondas that remains bright, acidic, and oenologically close to its cousins from Tavel? Can't beat that with a stick.

These were good, not great. Exuberant fruit, slightly grassy (which was weird for Riesling). Good value at $20, but in the world of Riesling there are great values at $20, so not a rebuy.
White
This was fine. No longer an edgy Muscadet, if it ever was, but plenty of creamy citrus to make up for it. Not a world beater, but fine for the price. More of a sole Muscadet than an oyster Muscadet.
White
One of the more alive bottles from the Haubs-Barzen series offered by Garagiste, so there's that. Then again, many of the other H-B offerings have been fully over the hill and down the other side. This one has just started its decent, but I wouldn't hang onto it. The quality isn't there for this to improve any more.

Red fruit, tart, a bit thin in the mid palate. Not sure whether this was just a particularly weak vintage for Clos Guillot or I just drank these at the wrong time, but my other experiences with this vineyard have been better.

I committed infanticide. And it was awesome.

Thought I’d crack just one of these, in the name of science and all. It’s no where near ready to go, but there’s so much packed in there and it’s all delicious. Stern in its youth but showing so much promise and the stuffing to last for ages.

It will probably be years before I open another one of my small stash, but I’m looking forward to watching this work its Peter Lauer/Riesling magic.

Agree with others, best sub-$25 (at the time, well above $25 now) Rhône wine in recent memory. Big, but nuanced and restrained rather than overripe and spoofy. As other tasters have noted, floral and baking spice notes are very prominent. Drinking fine but with plenty of time to continue to improve.

MATTYM19 got the note right for me, except that I like this type of thing more and would rate it more highly. That said, I agree that this isn’t the best value, even in the Ganevat line, where there are far more interesting cuvées at around the same price.
White
A biologically aged wine that doesn’t see the fortification that sherry does, like EN’s Florpower. If you like fino/manzanilla, you’ll like this. That said, it doesn’t offer much that sherry doesn’t, so I’m not sure I’d put a lot of effort into seeking this out again.

I drank this quite a while ago. I remember thinking it was decent but being a bit disappointed, not so much at its 2003-ness, that showed through only a little bit, but more due to an overall sense of genericness. Didn’t really seem to show much sense of place or to be worth the money.

Pretty damn good manzanilla for the price. Good complexity. Still no Solear en Rama, but an excellent bargain nonetheless.

Nothing special, but a decent amontillado for the price, which makes it an excellent bargain in the wine world.

I’m basically CJSADLER with just a touch of DALEX.

This wine is good. I feel like that bears stating at the outset given than someone actually called it “maybe the worst wine I’ve ever had.” What a luxury that would be, if it were true. Is it acidic? Not really especially at this point, but thankfully enough to have aged a bit with some grace. Does it have fruit? It has plenty, and it’s not f’ed with by lots of oak and is starting to develop some nice secondary characteristics now. Could it have aged further? Definitely, but perfectly ready to go now. Is it amazing or revelatory is any way? Not really. It’s a nice, but not super remarkable wine that I certainly enjoyed but would not consider great qpr.

Don’t believe the extremist views of this wine on either side. This wine is normal. This wine is good.

N.V. Equipo Navazos La Bota de Manzanilla nº 55 Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda Palomino Fino (view label images)
A fantastic manzanilla, hitting all the classic notes. It’s more restrained, and I agree with previous tasters that it’s less interesting than a number of other EN offerings in the fino/manzanilla category, but still damn good. At $35 on clearance, this was a real deal for me.

I know this is an unusual year for these, but having now tried these for couple years in a row, and I think I can safely say that I’m not a huge fan. I agree with other tasters that this wine, even in other vintages, has an unpleasant lactic quality. I’m not sure that’s quite the right descriptor, but I’m not coming up with a better one. Certainly has some interesting qualities and is a decent summer red, but no longer a rebuy for me. Maybe I’ll have better luck with their Chenin.

One of several Thanksgiving dinner wines. On the simple side but pretty.

Elle est vraiment toute la joie du monde.
Ma vie commence dès que je la vois

C'est si bon...

Got a great deal on these, but on night one, I thought I could see why. Seemed flat and maybe already over the hill. Must have just been dumb/sleeping though, because it came back pretty strong on nights 2-4. Not super interesting, but a good everyday cru Beaujolais.
White
These are really good. That said, I did think this one was a tad advanced for a 4-year old. It was delicious still now, but in my view there’s a growing body of evidence that Chidaine’s are spotty wines to age.

Drank on New Year’s Eve. I was worried this might have gone down hill a bit, but no it was still fabulous. One of my better bottles in fact. Apple, a touch of peach, chalk, yeast. Belluard rocks.
Red
Another beautiful bottle of Arnot-Roberts. Pale red fruit (strawberries and roses), with a little pinch of earth. High-toned and feminine. While this is still lovely, I enjoyed it even more a year or two ago, I’d drink up.
White
Lovely stuff. Quaffable but not without some complexity. After a few disappointing Tue-Boeuf bottles, this one made me a Puzelat believer again.
Red
This was pretty damn good. Very un-California-Syrah-like. Blind I might have guessed cru Beaujolais. Feminine, nuanced, excellent acidity. Love Arnot-Roberts.

Abrázame fuerte
Ven corriendo a mí
Te quiero, te quiero, te quiero
Y no hago otra cosa
Que pensar en ti...
Red
Drinkable but definitely showing the vintage and then some to my taste. Stewed fruit. Not in a ridiculous New World way, but not particularly interesting.
Red
Second bottle less interesting than the first, and that wasn’t anything to write home about. Restraint in an unrestrained vintage is about the most positive thing one can say.
