Tanins are still strong but seems to be aging wonderfully. Hints of tobacco and leather with a lingering finish. Hint of apples in typical Geyseyville fashion.

Not blind

Chalky nose and dusty body.

Lack balance. Very hot. Alcohol overshadows everything else. There's some fruit in there, somewhere. Did not get better on day two.

Has matured well and colourwise it has started to shift from young to midage. Fresh nose with pencil and somewhat fruity impression. Taste is not yet super mature but rather fresh. I find a bit green touch in the initial impression, but with a long lasting and very well balanced and integrated aftertaste it comes out very well. Remaining bottles will stay in the cellar for still a number of years.

Very good but a bit too much on the smoke this time around. Sometimes this wine is musky bordeaux style, this time it was smoky South Africa style...
  • Twinkles commented:

9/27/14, 6:58 PM - I'm by no means an expert but it feels like it's not getting any softer with time. It also feels like bottles are inconsistent. I still like this but I won't pace myself too much to keep bottles over several more years.

2010 Mollydooker Shiraz The Boxer South Australia
Imagine being rolled up inside a giant blueberry, inserted into a large plum and then stuffed inside a monster grape and then being launched out of a cannon into the depths of a decadent fruit crumble and you're part way to understanding the Mollydooker moment when you first sip this wine.

This wine was beautifully smooth and balanced. If it lacks anything at all, it would be a touch of oak, earth or smoke to really give this wine that complete feel. We purchased a case straight after trying this feeling certain the fruit cannon is ready to be reloaded.

An interesting Oregonian wine. Nice tart red fruit. But, this one had a sour finish.
  • Twinkles commented:

6/1/13, 1:20 PM - I had this wine a few times and the sour finish eventually dissipates. It also needs to be a tad cool to be appreciated I think.

Massive yes, jammy yes, sweet yes, fruit bomb yes, typical MD yes, Bordeaux no, Rhine no, elegant no. I am continually amazed at the critics of MD wines, like what are you expecting, what is even more amazing is how many and how much$$$ they spend to trash Aussie wines in general. When I open a bottle of MD I know what I am going to get, same as if I open a Bordeaux or Rhone etc. it is what it is and it is what it should be!
