Tawny colour with green reflections, darker than expected, but understandable. 6 puttonyos means seriously sweet, and it is, fig nectar, dried figs, sweet baking spices, there is a tiny line of acidity that makes the difference. Intense and full bodied, excellent, a dessert on its own.

Fresh on the nose, lemons, grapefruits. Nice mouthfeel, clean and intense, medium bodied, slightly rough but refreshing.

Cheerful, with grapefruit and lemon freshness, nice crowd pleaser, but nothing to get too excited for. On offer is value for large gatherings.

Decanted and ready immediately. My experience with Montefalco Sagrantino is of wild, tannic, rough wines, while here we have a quite civilised one, melted tannins, fully matured, sweet earthy spices, coffee beans, medium to low acidity. Overall tasty, classy, not very convincing on the finish though, become softer with age, at least this bottle.

From a magnum, to my surprise this one was stunning. After some disappointment with 2010 bottles of this label, the magnum came nothing short of spectacular. Mesmerizing colour, with tonnes of tobacco, followed by rosemary, earth. Good intensity, med to full body and nice juiciness. Overall excellent balance and persistent start to finish.

From a magnum, disgorged 2016. These bottles mature nicely, soft and comforting, yellow apples with fine line on acidity, gentle mousse, impeccable balance in medium weighted body. As a fan of the winery, I wish I can keep my bottles to this stage of maturation, definitely my best bottle of this label to date.

Nice golden colour. Gentle bouquet of honeyed dried roses and lychee. Was getting better with air, adding more precision. No botrytis detected, just textbook Gewurz, fermented to 11%Alc.

Decanted for a good 1 hr. Focused red berries mixed with dark coffee beans, some spice as well(rosemary). This is medium weighted and potent, without being too show-y. Nowhere near any maturation yet, but nice for drinking.91-92

Better than my previous one, more detail and juiciness, packed with cranberries but again, focused. It possibly needs a year or two to get better together.

Decanted and ready in 30 mins. Medium weight, with dark cherries and warm spices, some earthiness as well. Lean and really tasty, fine tannins, maybe a bit expensive for what it is.

Closer to light red then to pink colour. On the fruity side, raspberries, peaches, lifted midpalate and fresh, maybe a touch sweeter for my taste (label states brut), straight forward, uncomplicated if not simple, reflecting the price correctly.

Fruity, lively, joyful, with pink grapefruit on top, but I see it started loosing the edge, so drink up is needed.

My last and probably the best bottle. Lifted mid palate with juicy berries, luckily not as sweet as with my previous bottle. Warm spices that are all over, while not aggressive. Generally, I see some bottle variations that are not convincing, the winery hasn't managed to follow on with convincing vintages after that.

Decanted for an hour, intense colour, showing first signs of maturation- looking brilliant in the glass. Tobacco and sour cherry dominated nose and mouth feel, quite weighty on the palate, but was expected from that particular chianti area. Rich and savoury, promising, modern approach.

Double decanted, tiny amount of sediment removed, consumed after an hour and was ready. Lean, dusty, dried cherries, chiselled acidity, rosemary, savoury with medium intensity and medium body. A classic expression of the place. My bottle was marked 14% Alc, not sure where other tasters got their 15% from?

Tonnes of baby fat, sweet berries and all of it. Half of the bottle left for next day, improved slightly but honestly this needs a 3-4y time to become what is supposed to be.

Developed and quite easy to aces now. Brick coloured, good acidity, some dirt, forest floor, and sweet dried berries, all in controlled manner. Better than '2010 Villa Al Cortile' I had lately, but the ripeness of the vintage is evident through those two. Overall good for the price.

AP 05-16. Candid orange and apples on the nose, the body was almost non-existent with a short finish. I had 2 glasses, a bit disappointed and decided to cork it back. On day 2 reclaimed some of the weight, brought spices to the orange peels and generally improved a lot. Yet not to expectations, there is always a possibility it is closed down and need more time, but for now - day 1 - 86p, day 2 88p.

Gorgeous appearance of this one, with pale garnet colour, but abundance of lifted, deliciously sweet, red berries in the mid-palate and friendly tannins of med-weighted body. I can drink this one every day. A regular buy from Italy €20 before 'the pandemic', hard to believe it is impossible to find it online in UK<£40??

Tonnes of SO2 on opening. Pure and lively fruit underneath. It needed time to dissipate, fleshy and inviting with convincing consistency. Half of the bottle on day2 - still with primary fruit upfront. Overall, pretty enjoyable and a bargain <£15, wondering if the generous Sainsbury's offer has sth to do with over SO2-ing?

Intense cornel syrup with dark chocolate. Nice attack on the nose and initially in the mouth. Lacks drive through mid-palate to propel it to upper echelons. Good LBV, under cork, unfiltered, long life ahead.

Intense aromas of hazelnut and ripe pineapple. Rich, full bodied with nice mineral backbone. Plush & buttery, there is lemony freshness to meet all of this. A touch too rich for my taste but enjoyed it none the less. In a good spot for drinking now, while doubt will benefit from more cellaring.

This bottle showed brilliantly, probably my best of this label so far. Intense golden apples mixed with lemon/limey mixture in a beautifully balanced midweight-ed body. 'Leftover cheese' quiche provided the food support.

Quite restrained when opened, with malted aromas and some reduction. Later limey stone fruits emerged-(day 1). Day 2 - not much happened, a touch of citrus freshness and that's pretty much it, warmer 10-11C feel better, at fridge temp there is nothing.

It made a night and day difference with the LBVs I had lately. Focus, precision, clarity and elegance, red fruits and dark chocolate. At times I felt it was overpowered by the stilton, so not a powerhouse, more on the elegant side.

Vibrant, with lime, chalk and yeasts coming upfront. Satisfying and very well drinkable, but coarser on the bubbles which has a shorter than expected finish effect. Currently @ 50% offer in Sainsbury's, no complaints at this price.

From a magnum, double decanted and ready within 30min. Smooth and silky, very well represents both varieties. Wild and spicy with a little bit roughness in the flavour profile not texture-wise. If someone asks me, what Bulgarian wine is like, I would go with this one.

Bought this one from a trip to San Gimignano, 90% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino. Lovely now, balanced, complex, sour cherry liqueur with mocca, dirt and olive oil. Nice med to full weight, with good mid-way intensity. Good now, but easy 5y ahead, that might enhance tertiary aromas. I am detecting slightly overripe fruit which spoils it for me, otherwise will go for the 93+category.

This is nice, well balanced, developed with good intensity throughout, medium body, dark chocolate and mocca at first, later some cherry undertones, tea leaves. This could develop even further, real class and captivates the essence of the Nipozzano estate.

Nicely developed, needed an hour in decanter to open up. Red berries liqueur with a hint of brett (in a good way), medium weight, alcohol is 14,5 but not noticeable. Homogenous, not spectacular or show-off more like easy drinking old school.

Better than my last one. Clean and focused in Burgundian fashion, heavily on local spices and again that sweetness of fruit on the backend. Vintage cheddar provided good pairing to the sweetness of fruit and I generally enjoyed it, but yet again that sweetness bothers me...
