Forgive me, for I have sinned. I killed an infant today. KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF FOR AT LEAST FIVE YEARS! MAYBE 10. Decanted at about 6:30 and followed for about 4-1/2 hours. At first, the wood treatment was too strong, although the other flavors held a Forman versus Lyle knock down drag out punch fest to see who was stronger. At first, the oak was winning, with basic wood flavors, coffee and chocolate. After a while, the fruit took the lead and the nose developed a floral component with a tiny whiff of what they add for aroma in fancy nail polish - but no petro-chemical overtones. There is spice component, still fierce tannins, and I think the acid level is a bit above average. I have asked Will for a tech sheet and will report back.

San Diego Superspeader 2021 (Solare Restaurant, Liberty Station, Point Loma, San Diego CA): Decanted. Clear dark garnet color. Bright, fresh, glorious notes of sour cherries, blackberries, violets, leather, espresso, dark baking spices, stony soil. Full body, beautiful balance and structure, mouth-coating firm smooth tannins. Beyond aroma and flavor, this wine evokes images of Il Duomo, the Tuscan countryside, and perhaps La Madonna Herself. My #1, group's THIRD PLACE.

Possibly the best of the Joel Peterson's cellar Ravenswood bottles thus far. This smells exactly like a fine left bank Bordeaux from the early 80's - gorgeous, lively red fruited nose, touch of spring water and tanned leather. Silky palate, beautiful blast of sweet black cherry and plum, fully resolved tannins linger just a bit on the finish with a bit of dust, decent finish. In the PERFECT space for me right now, this bottle proves how important proper storage is. It's a gem, the best Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon I recall having.

Tasted from 375ml format. Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about 90 minutes.

Golden color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of honeysuckle, brown spices and crushed toasted almonds. Flavors of honey, lychee and lemon zest. Bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold.

Three words: storage, storage, and storage. This wine has so much life left in it, thanks to perfect storage, what a treat! The slightest pruning of the fruit on the nose and immediately on the palate shows its age, but cigar box, sweet jammy dark fruit, and tiny dusty tannins still give this wine life and interest. Finish lingers for a good 20 seconds, delivering more red fruits, some anise, and earth. Acid still remains, rather strong for a Zinfandel and its age, gorgeous color. A treat!

This wine completely fit the bill for what it was opened for last night. A total cocktail wine to just enjoy while hanging out with friends. While not really varietly correct as this is just way too rich and unctuous to really be a classical pinot it was still very tasty. Huge dark red and blue fruit with a little christmas cake mixed in for good measure. A tad bit of heat on the finish. If you like this style you'll enjoy this. Exactly what I was in the mood for last night. I wasn't looking for a serious wine and this delivered perfectly.

A beautiful Dehlinger Pinot. A bit lighter in color than I anticipated, medium full ruby, but oh so fragrant. Intense red berry, cherry essences wafting from the glass. Very floral (rose garden) intermingled with physiologically ripe fruit. Mouth coating flavors with intense Pinot typicity, but lithely structured. Very well balanced without a hint of alcohol. This can still age a bit but so bright right now. I have one more, I will save it for something special, hopefully, near term. I’ll toast the end of COVID-19. Outstanding bottle of wine, what a treat.

Received from FedEx and poured (admittedly not fair but I was thirsty). Not much on the nose right out of the bottle. Hints of cassis, tobacco and dark fruit. It's labeled a "Red Wine" (verses a Cabernet) which explains why it feels light in the mouth like a Merlot compared to a typical Napa Cab. The fruit is reserved on the front end and the tannins readily assert but interesting, remained balanced through the back end. After a few minutes in the glass, the nose was more pronounced and the fruit was more balanced with the tannins. Great wine for those wanting a Cab experience without being as heavy.
  • bomba503 commented:

11/27/14, 1:38 PM - Your description is accurate out of the bottle. On day four it is a massive tannic wine. Clearly needs more time in the cellar. It's gonna be amazing

11/28/14, 7:09 AM - Friend and I each had a glass Monday night at Rutherford Grill. Drove home Tuesday and brought the rest home. Had a glass Tuesday night and it was a tannic beast. Same goes for Wednesday night. It was just starting to really show well when I consumed the last of it well another friend Thursday.

  • bomba503 commented:

12/16/14, 5:35 PM - I guess additional details would help. Opened it after a full day day of wine tasting in Napa with 3 scheduled tastings and 3 pop-ins (Day one). Had a glass each with dinner (burgers at Rutherford Grill) before passing out. Day two all day drive home. One glass with dinner before collapsing. Day three worked all day and had another glass with dinner. Still recovering from weekend in Napa. Day four split the last glass for lunch with a friend before heading over for Thanksgiving dinner where 8 of us drank about a dozen bottles.

3/11/13, 10:13 AM - No problem, we'll catch up another time. I'm always there on Mondays if I'm in town so it's a pretty safe bet to stop by any time. FW was good this year and seemed a bit less crowded than years past. Notables were Herb Lamb, Mayacamas (library wines), Pride, Dragonette, Sojourn, Ramey (single vineyard chards), Ladera (Howell Mtn cab and they make a great Pinot under Pillow Rd. label- who knew), La Jota merlot and Round Pond (love that Rutherford SB). There were lots more but those come to mind right now. All in all a great event followed by dinner at Blue Ribbon pizza both nights

Second bottle in a row undergoing secondary fermentation. Looks like earlier CTer had same experience in June so probably an issue with the vintage. Decanted 2 hours, put back in bottle, shook up with cork which did away with the effervescence. After that it was fine but not quite the beautiful pinot more typical of Kanzler fruit. Still a great bottle though

Wow, was I surprised by this wine. Decanted in glass for 15 minutes, served slightly chilled. Slightly darker in color than typical PN from this region. Super aromatic nose of raspberry, strawberry, spice, a touch of forest floor, which carried through on the palate. The fruit was bright, with good balance of acidity on the finish. Paired perfectly with the cheese platter my wife put together for me. In my opinion, at $19 this is one of the best value 2007 PN coming out of the Santa Maria valley. Surprised the other tasters didn't score this higher. Give it a try if you can still find it.
