7/27/2020 I have serious doubts about the 2026 drinking date. This wine is drinking beautifully right now: silky mouthfeel while (almost miraculously) being incredibly light on its feet. There's just enough fruit coming through to balance the acidity -- a perfect complement for oilier fish such as salmon or tuna. I had it with duck breast that I cooked rare and for which I made a sauce with sauteed shallots and garlic, home-made poultry stock, Port, red wine and multiple herbs from my garden. Perfect! On day two, it's still doing nicely but the acid is starting to stick out a bit. I would strongly recommend drinking it over the next couple of years and not waiting until 2026, unless you like super-mature Burgundies with just a hint of fruit left.

9/2/22, 9:26 PM - Excellent note, agree with you regarding the acidity. Liking the wine very much, but the balance is starting to tip towards a sour note. Drink up!

Very ripe and round. The acidity is probably on the lower end of medium, but there's a bit of heat that hits you through the cheeks in a similar way. The palate and the nose all show a bit of age and a touch of oxidation, bruised apple, ripe pineapple, raw almonds and big hit of wet rocks on the finish. Enjoyable but not very complex. Finish is unremarkable.

Better on day two (the first glasses had been Coravined), with more pronounced nuttiness and less pineapple. A saline component makes me question my initial assessment of the acidity a bit. The overall profile sort of reads like aged Viura... sort of. High marks for the richness, but it isn't that complex, take the score as a sort of midpoint of the two.

7/1/21, 9:40 PM - Nice note. I’ve just sunk my last bottle and my thoughts are well aligned with yours. Well made and holding up surprisingly well, with good acid balance,. However, there’s not enough complexity/dimensions to get really excited. Perhaps more cellar time would help reveal the layers and lurking secondary notes that seem buried at the moment?

Seghesio style upstages vineyard source here. Sweet, full bodied, rich, dark fruited, chocolate notes with medium acidity to keep it juicy. Enjoyable? Yes. Cocktail wine? Yes. Obvious vineyard source? No.

6/15/21, 8:10 PM - Nice note, I’m with that the house style sadly overwhelms the character of the vineyard. That being said it’s fun wine for $20 at K&L.

Rich and seamless, with loads of dark cherry and savory notes. A bit low on structure and a bit one-dimensional, but that dimension sure is delicious.

5/27/21, 8:56 PM - Nice note, definitely rich and with savory notes. I got a distinctive and bright note of orange rind with the dark fruits. Fun & enjoyable wine, slightly moreish. Drink up!

First bottle in almost 5 years (4/2016). Pnp. Cloudy in the glass with orange bricking prominent. Aromatically took some coaxing to draw out some sous bois, green pepper, and red currant. On the palate the acidity remains vibrant thrusting forward a tart cranberry note that overpowers the faintly present cherry. Finish was uninspiring, and overall this particular bottle makes me long for the glory this wine demonstrated 5 years ago.

Three bottles remain out of 18 purchased, and I plan to revisit another bottle to see if this was an aberration. If I find a similar experience the remaining consumption will be completed before 2023.

The recommendation is to check in and pull a cork if you have this.

4/23/21, 8:00 PM - Nice note. Fun wine, unmistakable beaune in my book. Probably held on to long as the fruit is fading and as a result the balance seems off with the wood tannins and acid are too prominent. Food friendly !

Winemaker note - opened this wine over the weekend (a simple pop and pour) and it was open and enjoyable. There is a little fine grain tannin but I find it contributes to an excellent texture. It will improve over the next 2-4 years (at least) but can be appreciated now. Paul

12/29/20, 8:10 PM - Varietally correct fruit profile is promising, but the green tannins on the finish are frankly unpleasant..Brought back memories of 2004 Burgundy. Hope the wine maker isn’t trying to be too cute by over doing the stems.

Last of the 3 bottles purchased at auction.
Used an Ah-so which extracted the soft and 1/2 soaked cork very nicely. Even with the Ah-so, there was a visible crack about 2/3rds down, so be careful with a standard corkscrew.
This bottle was also squarely into its tertiary phase, like the 2nd bottle (1st bottle was a bit more youthful). Still, an interesting and pleasurable aged Napa Cabernet. Definitely got a sense of its ripeness but it wasn't to the point of being liqueur-like. More of a middle-of-the-road style than a "bigger is better" style. Really enjoyed this and will be on the lookout for more from this producer.
Don't really like to score wines like this that are past their prime but I'd probably go 88 - 90.

Crimson in color. 15.4% ABV. Sublime nose of red and blue fruits, plums and citrus. Full bodied with medium acidity. Well balanced. Rich and jammy with a slightly distracting roasted note. Blueberry, cherry liqueur, raspberry compote and spice on the palate. The finish is long and supple. Well made but lacking the freshness and bright acidity that I so adore in a Carlisle Zinfandel. Best over the next year or so.

12/25/19, 9:28 AM - Excellent note. I don't have much to add. While I enjoyed the wine I was surprised with the profile, definitely on the riper side and also how evolved this wine was. Quite mature, with clear tertiary characteristics and possibly on the downslope.

2012 Peter Michael Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse Sonoma Coast
It is hard to give a point rating to a wine that I didn't like. Suffice it to say this is not my style of wine. I found this wine to be peppery which is not simething i want in my pinot. Beware. This is not a Burgundy styled wine.
  • bergkamp10 commented:

9/14/19, 11:22 PM - "This is not a Burgundy styled wine." 100% agree, very monotholic and boring

This was a big blast of vanilla over cherry fruit. To me, this was surprisingly simple compared to what I’ve come to expect from Carlisle’s entire range. Hopefully the oak will integrate a bit in the next couple years.

Very nice without being overly complex. On the more elegant side with nice cherry notes on opening, with more of a dark fruit profile as it opened up. Medium body, with good acid balance and light tannins. Very food friendly. Drink or hold.

No cinnamon or pepper notes. Candied cherry notes and a general sweetness, along with some bramble brush notes. At 2 hrs, fell off a cliff into stewed prunes and vinegar. then I quit. 90 before cliff 75 after....average with time elapsed vs amount consumed seems like 87, but number here is quite meaningless.
  • bergkamp10 commented:

10/27/18, 10:26 PM - My notes resonate. We tried next to the 2013 rattlesnake ridge and a pair of Carlisle's. The singular note of the Dusi was very apparent. One of my least favorite Turley's.

2005 Domaine Y. Clerget Volnay 1er Cru Santenots Pinot Noir
completely disappointing. coming from the 2005 vintage, this wine shows none of the balance and harmony that i have come to associate with 2005 red burgs. far too acidic with not enough fruit to accompany the wine. not a good showing....
  • bergkamp10 commented:

5/1/17, 8:26 PM - Agree, we tried last night and came to a similar conclusion. Almost seems like they picked too early ? The wine was tasted blind, and the crowd noted the acidity and youthfull tart cherry fruits. The consensus was a cote-de-Bueane from a cool vintage (2008 or 2011). Purely by chance we had the Rossignol 2005 1erCru Santenots open, and it was chalk and cheese. Much more going with the Rossignol...

CHOCOLATE, LICORICE, AND BLACK CHERRIES IN THE NOSE WITH BLACK CHERRIES AND BLACKBERRIES IN THE FLAVOR. NICE COMPLEXITY AND A MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH.
  • bergkamp10 commented:

3/3/17, 7:48 AM - Nice notes, cassis and chocolate - my thoughts exactly. Lovely bouquet and surprisingly dense and chewy on the palate given the issues with 1998 vintage. I think I had the good fortune of purchasing a well stored bottle.

2010 Couloir Pinot Noir Londer Vineyard Anderson Valley
I picked this up on clearance for $20 as like AV pinot's, so i wasn't expecting too much. That being said I was still disappointed. This was big, ripe and unwieldy, and after a glass my palate was tired. The profile was dominated by a ripe core of dark berry fruit with a sweet oak influence, and lack of acidity which threw the whole profile out of balance. Its not quite Belle Glos but is getting there. The bottle reeked of over ripe fruit and spoofilated wine making.
  • bergkamp10 commented:

4/9/15, 9:11 PM - Yes, it struck me that this was a case of good fruit wasted by bad winemaking.
