Over four years since I last drank this, and it's as good or even better than I remember. I think some might be hesitant to rate this higher because it is not a tete de cuvee from a big house, but I can honestly say this is right up there with the best bottles of Champagne I've had in my life (and I've had a bunch.) Drained the entire bottle myself, and trust me when I say that doesn't happen very often.

This wine is fully mature but by no means over the hill. Palate was a bit shy at first, but it really opened up beautifully over the course of a few hours (did not decant). Excellent wine.

Great fill, cork in perfect shape. Wasn't yielding much when opened and tasted at 7, so I decanted when I got home at 9. Finally started to stretch its legs when I sat down to eat around 9:30 and got better with each glass until the bottle was drained around 11:30. One of the tastiest wines I've had in quite a while. Fortunate there wasn't a second bottle on hand as I probably would have drained that one, too.

I am guessing that those who criticized this wine simply didn't give it long enough to open up and show its stuff. The first few sips were indeed rather unpleasant, but it got better and better the longer it sat in the decanter, and was still improving 3+hours after opening. based on this showing I will keep my other bottles buried in the cellar and revisit in a few years. Great potential here, I think.

Bit of brett funk upon opening that blew off after a few minutes in decanter. This was opened at the end of a meal, so didn't have as much time with it as it deserved, but it's drinking very well now and seems to have the stuffing to improve for several more years. Wish I had more of this.

If served blind, I would never nail this as Italian, but have to admit it's pretty damn tasty. For $50 this is solid.

I don't have enough experience with young cristal to say how much this will reward cellaring, but it's already approachable and drinking very well. Definitely a crowd pleaser.

Still memorable some five years after drinking it. A one off bottle from Europe that turned out to be one of the best bottles of Champagne I've ever drunk.

Tannins are completely gone, but still a nice core of fruit and sufficient acidity to support it. This has been fully mature for years, but should continue to drink well for many more years. Very nice.

Dark, monolithic, unevolved. Not particularly fun to drink. Based on what others have written i wonder if this would have opened up if we had given it more time.

This is drinking really well right now, without any sign of the greenness that some folks find in 04 red burgs. Of course, I don't think I'm particularly sensitive to this flaw, so it could actually be there. I think premature aging is a much more serious problem with the 2004 reds (see Leroy's wines).

One of the best bottles of champagne I've ever drunk. Needed a good hour or so to settle down, but once it did it was staggeringly good. Fruit and acidity in perfect harmony, amazing complexity and a finish that just goes on and on. Wow.

Color more brick than ruby and even showing some amber at the rim, but on nose and palate this is not showing any signs of deterioration. Niether super complex nor one-dimensional, this is simply a well-made and very satisfying mature red burg with a great balance between the fruit and acidity.

Was able to push the cork in with my thumb so half expected this to be oxidized. But the color looked very good and this turned out to be an extremely fresh and delicious bottle. Still lots of fruit balanced by ample acidity. Very nice wine.

A wonderful wine that illustrates perfectly why scores are frequently useless. Upon opening it was a bit lean and acidic but after about 30 minutes the fruit came around and it drank perfectly thereafter. As lovely as this is on the palate, however, it's not particularly long or powerful and is really more about the aromatics. So while an objective critic may consider it to be under fruited and only score it in the low 90s, if you have a nose for well made, mature wines from the Cote de Nuits then you're going to chose a wine like this over any number of 100pters from other regions.
