CV. Colour of burgundy! Pale at the rim, but otherwise consistent. Looks younger than her years. Nose is blackcurrant and boysenberry. Hint of wood and sweetness emerges on nosing. In the mouth this first hits with a little acid, but settles almost immediately into smoothness - like cranberry juice with much less sharpness. Seems perfect for drinking now. Very easy to drink. The flipside of the smoothness is that the length is not great, but it's not half bad either.

This bottle was magnificent and ageless. The bottle variation is a bit maddening, but when it is on song, this is such a great wine. Long, complex, fruit of all colours.
  • SimonS commented:

4/19/20, 2:18 PM - Thanks for the comments. My bottle variation comment is not related to different batches or to trans-atlantic movement. I have just found that a few of my bottles have been a bit less stunning than the majority.

Drinkable, but confirmed previous impressions that this wine is no longer at its best. Definitely drink up if you have these.

2/5/19, 10:43 AM - Thanks for your comment, cfk49. I thought that several bottles from my case in 2010-2015 were top notch, but more recently the performance has been variable (I've posted several notes here). Burghound gave a drinking window of 2008-2015 which is consistent with my experience. I only have one left now, so I might not get the chance to find out if you are right that it is just in an awkward phase.

Really really yummy - drinking at its peak. All in balance.

10/23/16, 8:04 AM - I didn't decant this time. I'd be surprised if it made a great deal of difference either way: this wine seems to be right in the middle of prime time.

The best glass was the last one, at home, after leaving the restaurant I brought it to where I opened it 4 hours previously. This makes no sense to me. I used the same Burg glasses - it's not a case of restaurant stems. earlier it smelled lovely but was not distinctive on the palate, tasting a bit generic. My dining partner felt that he could find Gevrey character in there in the meatiness and i found some in the somewhat hard structure, but I'm reaching a bit. The wine was fine, not a great example of villages Gevrey or of Villages Burgundy in general. It was well balanced and elegant, but the ripeness of the vintage detracted from this producers sheer and pure style. Later at home the wine showed better, with a bit of layering to the flavors and some complexity on the finish. Maybe it needed time to work the CO2 out. In any case, confusing, and a bit disappointing.
  • SimonS commented:

8/27/16, 7:28 AM - I find that working the CO2 out is crucial with all Fourrier wines. I generally open, re-insert cork, shake bottle, remove cork, listen to the fizz, repeat several times, then decant.

  • SimonS commented:

8/29/16, 4:38 AM - Yes. Most recently I opened a (Fourrier) 2007 Morey St Denis Clos Solon. Given year and appellation, that should have been at least as mature as your 2005 Gevrey. I gave it several good shakes and a fierce decant. It was perfect and seemingly ageless.

A particularly lovely bottle tonight. I think my current batch of halves must be at peak right now.
  • SimonS commented:

5/7/16, 11:04 AM - Mine are 375s. I am not 100% sure, but I think this was purchased one year ago. Of course, I don't know if it had had some bottle time before my purchase.

This really punched above its weight. A wine that justifies collecting wine. It has a serious dark fruit profile - morello cherries, blackcurrants. Nice mid-palate sweetness and above all super length. In a good place now and for a few more years at least.
  • SimonS commented:

4/19/16, 11:32 PM - thank you, COWinelover. Nice of you to say so. Odd thing is that I have seen far fewer d'Ardhuy's in the UK since I bought a few 2005s.

Very enjoyable classic claret at apogee of its powers.
  • SimonS commented:

1/20/16, 2:00 PM - I would decant this for sediment; I don't think it will benefit from a great amount of air time; nor it is at risk of falling apart after an hour or two.

1997 Rapet Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay
Plenty of struck match and toast to the aroma at first. The reductive notes make way for a wine that is fresh and fruity with some mildly exotic notes. It has good volume and a spine of lemon juice. As it breathes up you get the delightful scent of orange blossom coming to the fore. Perfectly mature white Burg without a hint of oxidation.

11/3/15, 1:28 PM - Jeremy, I am interested to see an experienced burgundy taster enjoy this wine. As I mentioned in my earlier note, I had a case in which every bottle I tried was premoxed (and others on CT have reported the same) but a more recent bottle was better. Could this wine be a harbinger of premox recovery? I am wondering if your bottle came from a batch with any history, or if it was a one off?

My favorite NV rose but the acidity is too harsh.
  • SimonS commented:

1/25/15, 5:16 AM - My favourite too, but I try to keep it a few years in the cellar, after which the acidity is much more mellow.

A favourite. Lovely balance between fruit and acidity.
  • SimonS commented:

12/22/14, 9:21 AM - Good question. I am fairly new to this wine, but my guess is that it may well improve for 3-4 more years and certainly last much longer. The balance is there and so is the structure, I reckon.

  • SimonS commented:

10/24/14, 1:26 AM - Google translation: Drank it from Pichon Lalande 2008 and it was a little more fruit driven and tasted better. Therefore, one point more. Not sure if it will save just as well, but by all means, a great wine that will also be much better with storage, should not be drunk now. Was also aired for 4 hours in the decanter.
