One of the most Northern Rhone like California Syrah's that I've ever had. Some Griffin Lair Vineyard California Syrah can be like this too. Amazing power and structure yet delicate and balanced. not overly ripe. Acidity is perfect. This wine can go many more years but why wait. Along with Araujo Eisele Syrahs this is one of the best California Syrah's you will taste. I know Sine Qua Non is great but it's also 2 to 3 times the price. I'm very impressed. Lots of wonderful savory notes. Finish goes on forever. You just don't want the wine to be finished.

Reynvaan is always very solid. A little funk as usual with the rocky, metallic taste but not over the top. Wine is softer than several of the last bottles I had so glad that I drank it. Balance is perfect with the right amount of acidity,. Tannins are softening. Very smooth with a very long finish. You could easily drink this just by it self. Not over ripe or Syrupy like California Syrah's can be. Very good.

Very light color, almost Pinot Noir like. Nose is somewhat muted. His is a very different style of California Syrah. Very feminine. I like that it’s not an over ripe, syrupy sweet style but I don’t like that it has very little structure, flavor layers or more Syrah character. There is also a green bitter finish to the Wine. Could be a bad bottle I don’t know. This will not be a long aging Syrah. Id have to say I’m not a fan of this and at around $50 has a terrible QPR. If you like this Wine I’d like to hear your thought.

Decanted 90 minutes. Dark color. Much softer now than the last bottle I drank. This was my last bottle and so wanted to celebrate something during this crazy Coronavirus time. One of the few bright spots of the week. Very layered and structed wine. Excellent balance. Just what you come to expect from Dunn. Excellent bottle as usual.

Decanted an hour with some friends. Super barnyard nose. Much more so than any other vintage of Mobousquet I have had. Dark color with very little brown around the edges which was quite surprising for a 15 year old bottle. Tons of earth, dirty, minerality and flavor layers. Tannins are very much subdued but still present. Fruit dominates now. Wine is soft but still structured. I'm sure it can go years more but for me I will drink my other two bottles in the next year. Very good QPR and a Chateau I always buy now. Excellent.

This wine just keeps better and better. Smooth yet so extracted with tons of flavor layers. Dark color still and still lots of tannin to carry it years longer but why wait? I have one more bottle and I'm trying to figure out when to drink it. This is just a superb bottle from a superb Producer. I need to get more of this or at least 2012 or 2013.

Dark black color indicative of Cab. You can tell it’s aged as it is soft but still has structure. Fairly one dimensional but quite enjoyable. Black fruits. Nose is a bit Muted. For sure a left bank Wine. Fairly simple though. Depending on price paid QPR is great. For sure a lower Classified Bordeaux but it’s also not an expensive wine.

Decanted two hours. Still needs this air time. Softer than it was 5 months ago with the Merlot showing more. Black color with black fruits. Cab still dominates but more integrated. Medium mouthfeel. It is still a bit one dimensional compared to greater Chateau but that’s to be expected for the price point. If I could find more bottles in the $50 price point I would buy more. Very good QPR

A lot more structure now compared to the bottle I had in 2018. Very rich and full. Cab and Syrah are both cool climate so not a bit overripe nice balance with medium mouthfeel. Still a bit young. Will developers more. Cab nose is more pronounced now as is the Syrah. Very nice.

Decanted 90 minutes. Much better than the bottle we drank in December. Dark purple color, a little sweetness on the nose and palate. It’s of structure and flavor layers. Tannins still present but doesn’t detract from the wine and neither does the alcohol. This wine can go many more years. Fruit is wonderful with, berries, black fruit, plum with smaller amounts of secondary savory flavors. This is one of the best California Syrahs you can drink. Lots of structure yet a lot of finesse also. Elegant & Exceptional. Finish goes on forever. Worth the price.

Amazing what several months can do for a wine. While still young it is drinking beautifully right now. Dark purple and still lots of tannin. It is much smoother than in May last year. Very smooth, round and full flavor. Long, lingering finish. No secondary flavors at this point. Not as exotic and layered with flavors compared to Araujo, Alban etc. but it is at a much higher price point and excellent QPR as are all Carlisle Wines. Looking forward to the rest of my bottles.

I guess I was expecting more. Seemed a bit thin and lacking multiple layers of flavors. Good but not great. A little less extraction that I prefer. Nice fruit, not too ripe which is good. Nice vanilla notes from the oak but not overbearing. Inish is on the shorter side. It in the same league as Foxen Bien Nacido or Julia’s.

Big bacon fat nose. Olives, smoke, bbq and burnt wood. Nice salinity. Medium mouth feel. Nice lower alcohol so easy to drink. Would have liked a little more extraction, roundness and fullness. Good wine but not at the top of the Cote Rotie names. Decanted three hours. Nice and easy to drink.

2014 Château Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Infanticide. Now I’m bummed I even opened this. Way too young. Totally closed, tight and unapproachable. Not ready for prime time. What is it going to be in 3, 5 years? No idea. I’m terrible at predicting what young wines will be when they mature. Sure it will be great. Lots of tannin to carry this far. At this point the Merlot and Cab Franc are too green. I won’t try another for 18 months minimum. The Wine was decanted for three hours but still didn’t mellow the Wine out.

One of the best California Syrah you will drink at any price. I haven’t had SQN but have had Alban, Araujo Eisele, Lillian, Dumol Jacks etc. This is more of a “cool climate” Syrah devoid of the over ripeness many Cali Syrah can have. 14% alcohol but it seemed lower to me. Balance is perfect and the finish goes forever. Medium mouthfeel with perfect acidity and velvety smooth tannins. You do not want the Wine to be finished. Great effort by Denner but then every single Wine I’ve tried from this Winery has been exceptional I should have never quit the Wine Club.

Darker color, lots of red and black fruits. Cherry, Earth, Dirt, forest floor with a wonderful roundness and perfect balance. Very masculine Pinot expression and what you might expect from SLB. So smooth and seductive. You just want more of this. Medium mouth feel of luscious fruit. I need to find more of this. Can go for many more years. Don’t know how much better it will get.

Was hesitant to open because I thought it might be too young. WOW !! Amazing. Color is still dark with no brown edges or signs of age. Barnyard nose. Very concentrated but soo smooth. You want more of this and dont want the wine to end, Lots of earth, spice and currants. Finish goes on forever. Canon la Gaffeliere is always one of my favorite St Emilions because it never disappoints. We also had a 2000 CLG which was equally amazing. This wine clearly can age much longer but why wait? It is so great now.

Decanted an hour plus then drank over the next two hours. My last bottle showed more age and brown around the edges. This one looks more youthful. Wine is sublime. Big barnyard nose. Wine is so smooth with lots of flaor layers or earth, spice, tobacco, chocolate and currants. Lots of extraction and a very long finish. We had several great bottles over the holidays but this one was either 1st or 2nd with a 2010 Canon la Gaffeliere which was right there. I’m sure the wine can go longer but doubt it will improve significantly. Drink up.

I figured it might be too early for this wine based on other notes and it’s not quite ready for prime time. Dark color, almost black. Nose is closed and doesn’t offer much. Very little barnyard nose because its closed. Dense with great fruit but tannins still dominate. Alcohol on the nose also. Wine probably scores much higher in 12-18 months. The Cab Sauv for sure is evident on the nose. Give this one more time.

Drank after a 2013 Henri Gouges Nuits St Georges Les Saint Georges and these two wines couldn’t have been more different. The Gouges was Chambolle like and more feminine with lots or red fruits. This Vosne Aux Reas was much more masculine, dark, much more complex with more red and black fruits. Layers of flavors and earth were just exotic. I only bought one bottle so really want to try this again.

Decanted an hour and a half. Had a bit of old rancid nose so was expecting the worse. Wine is dark color. Typical right bank taste with medium mouthfeel and there were lots of flavor layers that you would expect but the wine was a bit closed. Poured more wine in the glass and waited as dinner was not ready. Came back a half hour later and the old rancid nose had dissipated (thankfully). Wine was now open and the Merlot really showing through. Improved a lot over the next hour plus and became more round and full. Nice cassis, tobacco and chocolate notes. Not as good as the 2009 which has more fruit but still very good. No need to wait for this one. Drink up.

A little better than the last time. Decanted two hours and the wine really improved over the next two hours and out on more weight. Great value for the price. Dark blackish color. Cab Sauvignon dominates. Nose is still closed but gives way to a nice, balanced wine. Classic Bordeaux. Medium mouthfeel. Finish is medium long and quite silky. The last of the decanter was the best. It is still young and can go many more years. Fair amount of sediment in the bottle so didn't pour the entire bottle into the decanter.

Tried a bottle after reading a bad review of the wine. Dark color, nose still tight but classic Bordeaux. Before I even tasted I knew it was going to be good or great. Lots of tannin still to carry it many more years. A little closed still but excellent extraction. Finish is long but flavors not as layered as I might expect. I would give this more time. A little tight and closed. Decanted for 2.5 hours, A bit one dimensional but still very good. Cab dominates. Give it another 6-12 months.

Still too young but wanted to try a bottle. Very Chambolle like with red fruits. A bit light on the palate and quite feminine. Nice earthiness and roundness. Balance is perfect but lighter mouthfeel mid palate. Typical Villages devoid of the extraction and more pronounced flavor layers of 1er Cru. Still for the money quite enjoyable.

Just tried this last week while we were in Vosne Romanee. The earth, spice, dirt, fruit just meld together. Lots of layers of flavors. This is an excellent wine and a steal for 68 euros at the tasting room. We tasted this next to a 2017 Vosne Romanee Les Reas which was also good but the 1er Cru Les Petits Monts really was more structured and concentrated flavors. Excellent terrior.

Just tasted in Beaune at their cellars. Completely mind blowing. Super extraction and the terroir is just as you would expect for a Grand Cru. Long lingering finish. Perfect balance and acidity but the earthiness is off the charts. You want this. Trust me. I have no idea what it will be like in 10 plus years but my guess is it will be amazing. Nice fruit, truffle, violets, Earth and dirt all mixed in. By far the best wine I tasted in Burgundy. My score might be too low.

Bought in Beaune for 69€. I know not a top producer but I wanted to drink it while we were there and wanted something with some age. The wine has some nice earth and fruit but it is not complex at all. Maybe it’s too young?

I was trying to find a Vosne Romanee because of the fullness and complexity. Still a nice wine but a little too simple for my tastes. Nice balance and acidity but wish it had more depth. But it doesn’t...Oh well. Still enjoyable.

Dark purple. Looks more like Syrah than Pinot. Don’t let this fool you. Super extraction, layers upon layers of flavors and just an explosion of flavors. Thought Coopersmith was my favorite but the more I drink Klopp the more I think this might be the best. Merideth Estate is also up there. Maybe the wine is still too young but I found it really disjointed. This is the first Big Basin wine that I didn't really like. Very light color (which doesn't mean much) but the taste was not a classic Pinot Noir taste. Maybe just an off bottle? I had the 2015 Coastview Pinot and it was fine. This was my only bottle so don't know if it will improve.

My son has a few bottles of this and wanted to try it last night. Don’t Do It !!! The wine is not even close to being ready which I knew before he opened it. Drink your 2010’s and 2012’s and 2013’s before opening this. If you don’t have 2010, 2012 or 2013....go buy some online so you don’t commit infanticide. Way too tannic. Way too closed up and not close to Prime Time. This will be a very good Syrah in Two Years Minimum. Trust me on this.

Drank this with a 2007 Dunn Howell Mountain which was better but this wine is also great. Another couple years of collaring and this wine will be better IMHO. Great extraction, barnyard nose, lots of yummy layers. The Merlot & Cab Franc are in perfect harmony & balance. Drinking great now but I think when it loses just a touch more of the sweet fruit it will be better. It’s very good right now. Don’t get me wrong. Just splitting hairs here. Long lingering finish. 93 might be too low of a score. Enjoy.

I realize now the bottle I drank 5 years ago wasn’t ready yet. Dunn Howell Mountain needs 12 plus years to come around and show its greatness. This bottle was just perfection. This was the best Cab I have had in a long time. The nose just jumps out of the glass. It has a European barnyard nose but its subtle. Dark red/black color. Because of the color & nose two people guessed Barolo.

Finish goes on forever. Layer after layer Of unctuous fruit in complete balance and harmony. Cabernet really doesn’t get much better than this. If you have this wine, don’t share it. Drink it with a loved one. My last bottle I am going to be selfish with and just drink it with my wife. 95 points is probably too low. It’s probably 97 or 98 points. I could see somebody scoring this 100. It’s that good.

I decanted this an hour. I tried it 20 minutes after decanting and it was good but not great. Another 40-45 minutes it was a different story. It put on weight & complexity during that time. It continued to improve while we were drinking it. I almost cried when it was finished.

Maybe a bad bottle but losing fruit badly. Wine is very one dimensional. Incredible what a year makes. The 2013 is amazing and blows this away. Fortunately I just bought one bottle. A 2012 Donelan Syrah shouldn’t be losing fruit like this so I’m chalking this up to a somewhat flawed bottle. Just had a 2012 Donelan Kobler and it was much better. Take this review with a grain of salt.

Dark purple color. Typical Cali Syrah with fruit forward nose. Tannins are soft and wine is extracted but smooth. Wine can go many more years but not likely to improve. Nice mix of fruit and some umami flavors but these are not dominant. Finish is long and lingering but I didn’t get a lot of layers of flavors. I found the wine a bit one dimensional. Wow, what a great bottle. All of the Denner wines have amazing extraction and this is no exception. Anthony Yount said this was the best Grenache he had made. No kidding. Soft and velvetywith just an explosion of flavors. Perfect balance & a long and lingering finish.

It doesn’t have any of the green or stemmy taste that sometimes young Grenache can have. Bad news is that I only had one bottle & am sure given the small production it’s not available anymore. This Wine can go many more years but why wait when it is so great right now. Yummy. As somebody already mentioned, no food needed. Give it a couple hour decant though.

Decanted for two hours. A little sediment at the end so don't decant the entire bottle. Nice barnyard nose and typical Bordeaux. QPR is decent with this wine as it is at a lower price point. That being said the wine is a little thin, not heavily extracted and devoid of the layers of flavors found in the top Chateau. Body and structure is light and the finish fairly short. I would say that while worth the money this wouldn't be a special occasion wine but just a decent wine for a weekend dinner.
