Wicked depth and aromatics, with a floral lift and deep, dark blue and black fruit spinning at the core Finishes with some mineral notes, as if out of a diamond mine...Out of this world value and gives the more complex and elegant CdP bottlings a run for the money, at 1/5 the price...

Big, masculine style, but not ponderous. Rose petals and a hint of anise wrapped in leather and singed hickory bark. Smooth tannins. Forest floor flavors peek through.

Wine & Spirits NY Top 100 Extraordinary concentration and complexity, but not heavy. Leans toward high tone Touriga Nacional fruit but is still very Dao earthy and soft. Showing some secondary already-in a good way. Wine of the tasting among the giants?

Just about perfect, at least while this young. Maybe better than perfect in the future? As good as the 1st Growth Margaux or Palmer...

Hugely concentrated, but its youth revealed by a disjointed profile with the oak sneaking through the signature smoky sandalwood and black plum and dried black cherry. Every reason to believe that this will come together in a few years.

Modern and decadent. Primary flavors of cassis and black cherry liqueur are primary and in your face. Hopefully a more savory edge will emerge with time.

Cool, high tone red fruit, with a sneaky perfume leaking through the net of pliant tannins that need a few years to resolve. A slightly exotic beauty with its own wild red berry personality.

Well, hello, this has emerged already, a mouthful of satiny boisenberry fruit, shedding the oak polish and exciting open knit Malbec character. If it weren't for the boisenberry assault, this has all the depth and elegance of Catena's high end bottlings.

Tight and tannic. Good substance lurking below. Reacquaint in 2-3 years.

Tannic and concentrated, this is a little monster, dark fruited and smoky. This has potential to be a big boned St. Estephe that blooms into something special in about 5 years

Ripe and deep, and layered, with enough acidity on the finish to keep this fresh and clean. This rivals th e ir flagship Howell Mountain Cabernet, at half the price if you can find it.

Pure satin, mouthcoating fig and blackbery Jam. Alcohol prominent on finish, makes it pack a wallop. This is gliding through it's drinking window.

One of the best values in Piemonte, especially in hot vintages. This checks all the boxes in a modern but elegant style. This vintage has depth to boot...

This cuvee is vintage sensitive, but it excels in the vintage. Deep, dark, with satiny tannins, and just enough complexity. The Italian varietals give it lift on the long and satisfying finish.

This has become more spatial since barrel tasting, shedding some flesh to reveal a stony austerity and mineral flash on the finish. Virtually weightless, there are whispers of lemon oil and classic Montrachet purity of Chardonnay fruit that one gets only at the Grand Cru level. This and the Morgeot are superb examples of how La Maltroye can perform in great vintages.

Inky and intense, like a Napa Merlot, with just enough old world freshness to set this apart. The purity of fruit is immediate, and it extends to the sculptured finish, loaded with dry extract. Hedonistic in a medium bodied way...

Slightly grainey, but not burly, with a solid core of cherry and red licorice. Savory satisfying finish. This vintage really shows the Sauriac hand.

Beautifully complex, higher tone than most WV Pinot. There's structure here that holds the exotic berry fruit together in a totally intriguing package. A sauvage edge puts this in the Burgundy universe, such is the artisanal feel.

Remarkable staying power over the past 3 years. This is a match for the purity one finds in Hyde and Ritchie--Montrachet-like except for the telltale barrel notes that bring out the tropical new world thing. Still fresh and vibrant, a stunner.

Sleek and elegant, with a sprinkle of minerals on the finish. This borders on the weightless elegance of the more prestigious appellations further north in Beaune.

A majestic Loire SB...Ripe, rich and complex--but paradoxically very dry--, this shows the extended lees contact and late release. Not the weightless style some perfer, this is ripe but not dense or heavy, except on flavour. With this kind of quality, who needs the barrel fermentation of the more expensive Silex bottlings?

Second bottle in 3 year interval...earthy, deep, savory, NSG profile. Red plum and red cherry, but the fruit bends towards darker flavors in a delicate dance between high and low tone. For all the earthy ripeness and maturity, this finishes dry and lifting, with a bit of complex dry extract that lingers. Very, very nice...

Tight and tannic, with tremendous color and concentration. How many years is anyone's guess--I won't touch again for at least 2 years. Reminds me of some of the 2016 Beaune reds. Low yields in 2016 resulted in great concentration and the wines needed at least 5 years to show their hand.

Now flirting with perfection, this has transformed from the stolid, tannic number it was about a year ago. Plenty of development ahead, and it may reveal some welcome complexity, but the flavor and texture are already captivating.

This is bright for Dao, but rich and perfumed. There's a smoky edge to the silky red plum, redcurrant and red licorice flavor panoply. The finish is long, savory and cascading, echoing the red fruits with a touch of minerality. This finishes like a fine Beaune grand cru.

A robust vintage, with the Rhone varietals poking through (See SunShip flavor description). The Zin sneaks in, caresses, sweetens the pie. An outstanding showing for this California classic.

Still a wine in the making, this is wrapped in smoky mineral reduction. The underlying fruit is nevertheless detectable--key lime, green fig and blanched almond--as is the subtle imprint of dry extract on the nicely weightless finish. This could be outstanding in a few years...

Time has tamed the sauvage aspect of this unique vineyard, and a stunning integration of all the elements has miraculously occurred. Fresh and upright, with minimal secondary notes, the delicious black and purple fruits on the still intense mid-palate are sustained on the pastille dotted finish, which lingers weightlessly.. A superb example of a mature, satiny Rioja with staying power.

In the right place. This family expression is balanced, rich, velvety and it gives up a textbook array of Nebbiolo flavors in a modern, higher tone package. Exotic forest blue and purple berry, black truffle, licorice root, dried rose petals, hints of blood orange and sour cherry on the clean finish. This reinforces the notion that at its most elegant, Barolo intersects with top red Burgundy at half the price or much less.

Ruby lightning in a bottle. High energy Pinot with tremendous reserves of flavor from cherry to red plum to incense and pastille. High toned but anchored by its dense tannic core. This may go all the way, as they say.

Decidedly herbal, tart, zesty. Something of a throwback to the old RRV style. Redcurrant, cranberry, red licorice. Lots of flavor in a medium bodied frame.

Add some stoniness, subtract a little weight in the palate, and you have the purity of fruit rivaled or surpassed only by the Montrachet vineyards. Closest comparison: the best bottlings from Hyde or Ritchie, or Mate's and Coddington or Hunting Hill....

Dry and savory red fruits, tight and compact but intense. Hardly seductive but this has interesting reserves of flavor and the slightly grainy tannins suggest years to go.

A head-spinner...juicy Bojo fruit that somehow brings the joy and freshness of nouveau to the structure and seriousness of a top Cru (reflecting less the aromatics of Fleurie, over which Le Perréon is positioned, and more the power and persistence of Cote de Py).

But on the finish, this Gamay turns the trick, gliding so elegantly into CdN territory with soft palate coating tannins and a drying sprinkle of minerals.

All for half the price of any top Bojo Cru...

This has the feral energy reminiscent of a Chandon de Brailles Pernand--volatile, edgy, and tactile, with enough of a smooth lining to get to a delicious core of sour cherry, hibiscus, sweet pomegranate and cranberry fruit, finishing on a flash of acidity and a gentle bite. An exciting wine.

Rich, elegant, with depth. Fully mature, and heading toward the savory side. A complete package of high tone fruit with great restraint. Arguably the finest single vineyard bottling in the lineup, surpassing the pioneering Carneros bottlings in many vintages.
