I think I under estimated this wine; it is still very dark and potent at the age of 14. The tannins were very robust and some what coarse and overwhelming the wine. I can sense some potential underlying, but this needs another decade. My only bottle so I won't get to find out. A very classic Chinon nose with blackberry and bramble fruit, green tobacco, green pepper, and violet. The pyrazines are pretty prominent.

This was good; not great; I've noted a little bit of oxidative notes on most of these recently; they are not pronounced on this bottle and there is plenty of ripe orchard fruit, but the slight bruised note and slight walnut hint throw it off a touch for me. Still enjoyable, but not my favorite

Drank with simple NY strips. Very dark in color. Cork was only stained on the bottom. I decanted off the sediment as there was a fair amount. The nose was fabulous. Blueberry, blackberry, and black cherry along with camphor and eucalyptus notes; some dried violet and a touch of tobacco and damp earth. The palate was still quite intense. The balance was excellent though. Tannins are present, but not really standing in the way of anything. Long and lovely. A killer bottle of this; has years ahead of this in good storage.

This was very tasty; better than many '18s I've had; started a little tropical, but by the second glass it had freshened up and showed more minerality and the fruit was more in the orchard vein with a bit of spice and lovely floral notes. There was very nice density and concentration with a long mineral tinged finish. Closed with natural cork.
White
This was very good; fresh and full of minerality and salinity on the nose with yellow apple and green pear, a hint of lemon; acacia blossom and a hint of petrichor; the palate is really lovely with great energy and a lovely sense of balance. Very drinkable now, but with some upside. Closed with diam 10

2020 Château d'Yquem Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend (view label images)
Oh man was this good. Young Yquem is just so delicious; honeysuckle, orange blossom, marmalade, quince, fresh honey. It smells incredible. The palate is rich and sweet, yet doesn't feel heavy and has lovely acidity; floats across the palate and yet hits every sensor. Wow stuff for sure.

So frustrating... natural cork seal; and unfortunately this was definitely starting to oxidize; the palate still had some freshness and minerality, but the nose was toasted walnut and bruised apple. I tried to push this a little further given the vintage and the quality to let it mature. White Burgundy... so good and yet so frustrating

This is good. The nose is quite nice with ripe strawberry and tart cherry, some spice and floral notes; clearly shows a cooler and lighter vintage compared to the '19; the palate is a little wound up still with structure seeming like it is not fully integrated. Seems to be enough fruit to make it happen. Would probably hold these for a couple years and revisit.

This was very good; natural cork seal; pale color with a lovely nose of ripe orchard fruits, crushed rock, acacia, just a tiny hint of spice and baked lemon. Ripe on the palate, but with good underlying acidity to keep it humming along. Walks a nice balance between a taut and mineral style and the older ripe fruit and fat Meursault. Drinking well now.

I can't say I've ever been blown away by a Clos de Ducs at this point; I haven't had a lot, but still given the prices these days it seems like it should be pretty awesome stuff; this had a nice nose with ripe almost liqueur like berry fruits, the classic minerality of this wine, some wilted floral notes and just a hint of autumn leaves; still certainly fairly primary at 15; the palate is rich and borderline heavy with a bit of alcohol peeking out that just throws the balance off; a touch hot on the back end; if it were 1/2 a degree less it would probably be amazing, but as it is the alcohol level threw it off for me. Still enjoyable and I drank it, but I certainly wouldn't buy it again.

Really quite nice as the last few have been. Good energy and good depth for the level. Natural cork
White
Lovely stuff; closed with natural cork; there is super fresh lemon and green apple along with minerality and a hint of reduction. The palate is fresh and bright, but with ample depth of citrus and orchard fruits. Lovely village wine that should continue to develop well assuming it doesn't oxidize first...

This wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't what you hope for from a Petits Monts. The nose was solid; took a bit to open, but did eventually show some nice red fruits and spice along with some floral and mineral hints. The palate was a bit tight and felt rustic with the tannins a bit dominant. Don't get me wrong it was plenty enjoyable and maybe I've just caught it at an awkward moment, but it was no where near the level of the '14 Drouhin Petits Mont I recently had. I guess that explains the price difference.... will hold for several years and see if it develops more.

Pretty tasty; young and with a dark ruby color; nose with some black cherry and lots mineral notes; hint of earth and floral notes; the palate is quite fresh for an '18 with a juicy salinity; good depth and then the tannins become more prominent. The balance is really quite nice for the vintage; its drinkable now, but has the structure to age for many years.
Red
This is excellent. Pale ruby color; nose with lovely red berry fruit, rose petal, a hint of orange peel and spice; so fresh and vibrant; very elegant and ethereal, but with great intensity of flavor. Lovely balance and some tannin does come in on the back end, but fairly minimal for nebbiolo. Excellent, very Burgundian in nature. Look forward to enjoying this and checking out the single vineyards.
White
Closed with diam 10; took about 45 min to open up, but showed lovely floral notes, lemon and orchard fruits; fresh and vibrant with bright acidity, but still good depth of fruit and a lovely saline finish. Will improve time.
Red
This was definitely more open and ready to go than the prior bottle. Beautiful nose with red fruit, mint, orange peel, pipe tobacco, evergreen forest floor, and crushed violet. The palate has lovely red cherry, spices and good depth with some structure still underlying. With food the structure is not that notable, but its there and should allow plenty of further development. Really lovely. I think these wines are great and offer fantastic value in the Conterno portfolio.

This was tasty; ripe orchard fruits, a bit of spice and butter; less minerality than I typically get from Mesnil, but still quite tasty. Good depth on the palate and well balanced. Drinkable now.
Red
First La Mouline; quite good but young and with plenty of upside; the nose is very classic syrah with blackberry, blueberry, smoke, pancetta, olive, violet, a hint of oak but honestly less than I expected. The palate is dense, but quite nicely balanced and really lovely. Great depth, good balance. Drinkable now for sure, but with upside in the next 10 years.
Red
First Drouhin Petits Monts; figured it might be a bit young, but it was really quite in form; the nose took a few to open up and showed lovely red fruits with very much classic Vosne spice and minerality. It continued to open for the whole time; the palate was seductive and gained in depth throughout. The texture was killer with velvety fruit overlying the structure that was there, but not really noticeable. Would love to try this again in 10 years. Excellent.

This was good, but seemed somewhat flat; first bottle from Vocoret that wasn't excellent; that said it was still really nice. Not sure if it is closing up a bit, but seemed to lack some energy.
Red
This is really delicious; pale color as is always the case at K Fox; beautiful nose of morello cherry, raspberry, a hint of anise, spice, a touch of brown sugar, damson plum and orange peel; the palate is silky and elegant, but with a concentration that belies its color and a lovely depth; really nice stuff. Has enough structure underlying that I think this will age quite nicely.

Rosé - Sparkling
Disgorged 2021; restaurant purchase; really nice rose; fairly dark pink in color and has strawberry brioche on the nose with some minerality; a hint of orange peel. A richer style with lovely density. Quite enjoyable.

Drank at a restaurant. Wasn’t sure if this would be approachable or not given how young it is but it was open and lovely right from the start. This was lovely juice and super classic Chambolle. Pale color for most Roumier I’ve had. Super fresh cranberry, cherry and strawberry. Floral and mineral. Lovely freshness and vibrancy. Seems really in keeping with the vintage but in a good way. Certainly lighter in weight than several Roumier wines I’ve had but this just floats across the palate. Damn I could drink this all day. Super tasty stuff. Not likely to make old bones but drinking well out of the gate.

Man this was good; popped and let open for 45 min; no decant; lots of sediment noted on the bottle; initially had some hints of tertiary development, but quickly freshened into blackberry, blueberry, crushed rock, a hint of smoked pork, touch of olive, violet; classic Cornas and still so vibrant at 19; the depth and length with a grilled ribeye were excellent; killer stuff. Lots of time ahead.
White
This is really lovely stuff; natural cork; pale color; fresh and vibrant with lovely green and yellow orchard fruits, lovely floral and mineral notes with just a touch of salinity. The palate is fresh and vibrant with excellent depth and concentration for the level and a long saline tinged finish. Good stuff.

This is good though I thought it definitely showed the heat of the vintage; the nose was initially quite ripe, almost liqueur like though it did gain some minerality and freshness with air; the palate was big with a borderline warm finish and while it stopped short of having any prune or significant heat on the finish it was not my favorite Pavelot. That said I think with age this could turn out quite nice. I'd give this a decade really from here and see if the warm fruit gains complexity and everything balances out.
White
This bottle was better than my prior; it has put on some weight and is quite tasty; citrus and green apple with some floral notes and lots of minerality. Still ripping acidity as is generally the case Chez Lamy. While I find this good and certainly pleasurable; it doesn't really make me want to buy it again. If I drank it as an aperitif on a hot day, maybe. That said it is not cheap and I'd rather spring for the village or 1er cru wines here.

This was better on night 2 and definitely better with food than as an aperitif. Keep it for another year or two and it may really take off.

This was good, not great; the nose was lovely and was pretty open from the start; classic nebbiolo with red fruit, mint, orange peel, tar, leather, tobacco, and floral notes. The palate started out a bit thin, but did gain weight with air and improved over the 2 hours of consumption. I love the nose, I wish the palate had a bit more depth and intensity though it may develop some more given the improvement with air.

I see the potential here, but it wasn't quite ready for my tastes. The nose took a bit to open and revealed lovely ripe red berry fruits, lots of baking spice, and some floral notes. Continues to freshen on the nose throughout the evening. The palate is good, but shows a bit too much wood currently; the wood spice and tannin are not quite fully integrated and while I have little doubt the fruit will absorb this, it just needs a few more years to make it happen. Would hold for 3-5.

Very good stuff as always; lemon peel, grass, gooseberry, a bit of green apple and a touch of smoke. Good density, but also fresh and just generally tasty.
Red
These wines are so good; they blow every other Barbera out of the water except for maybe the B Mascarello; dark red fruits, hints of iron, orange peel, violet. Powerful and full throttle, yet super fresh acidity given the varietal. Really excellent balance and just fun to drink. Bottle disappeared before I knew it. Need to buy this stuff more often
White
Natural cork closure; color was pretty golden so I was somewhat concerned, but this turned out to be just fine; riper and richer than the regular Savigny blanc with baked apple and pear, some lemon pie; the palate is round and rich, but has more energy than initially it seems like it might. Very enjoyable; will probably drink my other bottle soon rather than risk oxidation.
Red
Really good stuff; punches above its level; fresh but ripe red berry fruits, a hint of orange zest, violet and just a hint of petrichor. The palate is fresh and delicious with each sip just lingering and begging for another. A great value.

Opened after a corked '18; this was singing and was really delicious; maybe the best version of this wine I've had; fresh red fruits, a hint of citrus peel, floral, mineral, and maybe just a hint of sanguine; palate is delicious with good density and intensity for the level, but also great vibrancy for the vintage; the whole package is simply delicious and I couldn't stop refilling my cup...

Corked... very disappointing; underlying palate stuff seemed quite lovely

This remains one of maybe the best buys in Burgundy that I've made; wow this is good; initially a bit cool as I opened at cellar temp, but still showed nice fresh red fruit and some menthol; with air the fruit expanded and became slightly darker though still red leaning and the spice came in full, clove, coriander, cinnamon; some dried violet leaves; spiced black tea with more air; the palate is lovely with quite nice density and a long spice finish. Still with plenty of time ahead.

This bottle was really on point tonight; pear, yellow apple, orchard blossom, a bit of minerality and a hint of wax; very nice energy and density on the palate; lovely finish. Not that far off of a nice Puligny really. Natural cork with wax seal
Red
Served with pesto salmon; a richer version of the sisters for sure. Black cherry, raspberry coulis, some floral notes, also a little hint of reduction. The palate is solid and has bigger fruit and spice than usual; good development potential; not as much energy as normal, but still quite nice.
White
Enjoyable; I used some in a risotto and sipped the rest while I cooked; ripe orchard fruits, some honeysuckle and a hint of some lees/butter; round on entry, but with enough acidity to have some freshness. Easy to enjoy though I prefer the pinot gris and the chardonnay from Eyrie.
Red
First time with this bottling; I really like the Il Marroneto regular Brunello; this was also good, but for my particular palate not better and maybe actually not as good as the regular bottling. It was bigger and richer with ripe red berry fruits; almost in a liqueur like style; mint, anise, forest floor, and a whiff of worn leather. The palate is big, pretty tannic, and has a bit of alcohol noted on the back end. It is certainly tasty with food, but I would prefer more acidity and less alcohol. Still has plenty of time ahead of it based on this bottle.
White
These have been very good and consistent for me in '19 and '20. The '20 is a bit fresher, but is still a full throttle Bourgogne that blind I would almost certainly call at least village level. The density and intensity of flavor on the palate are impressive for the level. It is pure and just begs you to keep sipping. Wish they weren't so expensive because I'd love to have a case every year. Closed with natural cork so not sure I'd let them sit. Need to remember to drink my '19s.

Restaurant purchase with poke; this has a richer nose with honeyed brioche alongside baked apple and pear tart; silky mouthfeel with good depth for the price point; I enjoyed this quite a bit and it is a good value.
Red
This is tasty stuff; red berry fruits and some spice with a hint of orange peel; very fresh and a hint of pepper emerges with air; saline and vibrant on the palate with a lovely finish; not that deep, but quite drinkable
White - Sparkling
This was really quite nice; approachable now and with potential for improvement; full of energy, but also with good depth; very solid
White - Sparkling
Drank at a restaurant with sushi; first time with this cuvee; it was good with lovely citrus and stone notes alongside some hints of brioche and spice; good depth and balance and seems like it will definitely improve with time in the bottle; not quite at the level of the other famous tete de cuvees, but priced accordingly.

Very good though a bit tight and could use a few years; fresh and vibrant with good depth. Billaud has been consistently very good over the last several years that I've been trying the wines.

Just stellar stuff every time I drink it; fresh and vibrant, classic Chablis nose though maybe slightly riper; I love it. Natural cork closure.
