Great wine that still needs more time, or a long decant to soften the tannins.

Needs time. Drank from decanter with no resting time. Started out a bit of barnyard, that quickly blew off. Very thick, a bit of a beefy taste with overwhelming fruit pushing through. Made me order another 12 since you can still get them for around $25.

Don't like where this wine is right now. Opened and drank. Too much tannins at first thought it did dissipate after a half hour--obviously must decant in the future. Seemed unbalanced. Will wait.

Well, it will be great. I'm going to wait until at least 2015. Very tight tannins. I know its day will come.

Second bottle to confirm my low opinion of the first bottle--yep--a major mis-buy. In a word: disjointed. I won't try again until 2012.

A total, unpleasant mess. No fruit in the nose, but some weird smell. Unpleasant taste of I don't know what. I've read this needs to sit until 2014!

I'm assuming this bottle was flawed. It was awful. The aroma seemed OK, but there was pure bitterness in the taste and finish.

I'm going with the general consensus that James Suckling really overrated this wine.

Huge aroma of apricot and other stone fruit on the nose. So much flavor with so little alcohol-7.5%.

Excellent, but not astounding. Fine bead, low yeast, more toast.

Nine bucks, what can you say? A little too much candy flavor. Also this wine has a very processed taste. I'm not sure how to describe that, but you can taste it.

This wine, in many vintages, justs continues to impress for its value. Deep fruit aromas and a complex taste.

I knew from the start that we were drinking this wine too young. But I have a few bottles, and I like to see how wine progresses. At first its tannins, as expected were very strong, but not overwhelming. As the night went on they really smoothed out. We always spend serious time swirling and sniffing and I could have just smelled this all night. Dark fruits and spice notes. The tasting was rewarded with powerful fruits, chocolate and definitely a licorice flavor. Great, but I will wait at least five more years until opening another bottle.

I’ve had a number of vintages of Don Melchor and you never know what you’re going to get—no matter how high the rating. Sometimes it will positively reek of barnyard aromas and leather. It can have tannins that dry your mouth out. That said this is probably the best bottle I’ve ever had. The aroma was of dark fruits, but there was a mix of cherry. Also some coffee and earth. The taste was perfectly balanced, the tannins were there, but muted down to give a slight punch to the wine. At times I would just keep it in my mouth and swish and chew to get every taste out of the wine. Perhaps blackberry was the main fruit taste noted. Sad to say it was my last bottle.

The Drappier is perhaps the most explosive ‘96 Champagne I’ve had. The first sip burst on the tongue with fine bubbles and flavors of apples and citrus. Not as yeasty as some have said—and I enjoy yeasty Champagnes. Not as dry as some, but the sweetness was in balance and not overwhelming.

I'm still trying to figure out this wine. First bottle I thought was great. Now I think there might be too much pepper flavor. I'll keep tasting.

I have mixed feeling with KB's Syrahs. I am ususally offered one or two bottle with my KB Pinot allocation and sometimes like and sometime don't. The was a really interesting bottle. Berries in the nose and bottle.

Fruit seems to be fading. There's a bitterness in the finish. The wine seems off balanced now. Still kind of liked it.

Lots of character. Balanced. There's a taste of something that shows its age--in a good way, but I can't describe it.

Made my head spin with aromas of grape and berries. We were going to decant it, but when we tasted it there seemed no reason. I swear there was a heady, delicious taste in my mouth after two minutes. It just kept on going and going.
