4/18/24, 4:56 AM - Probably changes what it is made of from vintage to vintage, which I don't quite understand the point of. There are already so many cuvées, why not create a new label if the content is not similar to the year before.
4/18/24, 4:50 AM - Thanks for the explicit review. The 2019 is the only vintage I have tried and I found that to be fantastic, so maybe I was led to believe that this meant that Poulprix is an especially nice cuvée. The truth is probably more along the lines that some of the red wines are good, some are not and it is a gamble which you get except if you have a review to go by, which often you don't.
3/29/24, 4:04 PM - Are you sure about that? The origin varies by vintage hence the name ”Confidentielle”. Every source I have seen puts the origin for 2020 in Chablis and some sources say more specifically a Petit Chablls plot.
3/29/24, 4:10 PM - Yes that relates to vintage 2018

3/7/24, 7:49 AM - Thanks! If you care to share some other favourites, perhaps even in a similar, fresh style like this, that would be very kind?!
3/8/24, 7:27 AM - Those are some really cool suggestions, thank you!
3/6/24, 12:41 AM - Not nearly worth what price? I think PYCM is definitely one of those where there are more than one price. My price, although very restricted allocation requiring that I buy other things for the same value, was 40 EUR. That is pretty good value when compared to most other Burgundy.
3/6/24, 11:53 PM - Thanks for your reply NoahCap. I just think it is interesting to know the price when someone says it is not worth it to them, I don't want to assume they bought at the lowest available WSPro price as they might be in a difficult market or might have bought lower on initial release. Do you mind sharing an example of what you think is a better wine, when it comes to Cote d'Or Chardonnay at the same or lower price? I mean only if you care to, this is certainly not intended as a questioning of your value for money statement or an interrogation or something, it's just nice to get a tip from other enthusiasts :-)
2/22/24, 6:30 AM - From what I have read about Metras, maybe the Laisse Tomber is less likely to be flawed?
12/19/23, 5:45 AM - What do you infer with "too" long? Going through the rest one a year in the coming years or drinking them all sooner than that? The vintages I have had of Caparsino at ages 9-12 have certainly not been past their best. I have only had the 2016 once, three years ago, but I thought it would take well to cellaring.
12/20/23, 1:11 AM - That's great information, thanks. I'll have to open a bottle shortly to see where I think it is right now.
12/20/23, 1:13 AM - BTW I recently had a Doccio a Matteo 2018 that was brilliant, and a lot more floral than what Caparsa usually is. I recommend trying it :-)
1/3/24, 12:25 AM - I also opened a 2016 Caparsino a week ago and it did seem a little muted, but I had it among non-wine friends. Hopefully more a tunnel than a decline. I also had it out of terribly small wine glasses because I was in a ski resort so there's that.
10/24/23, 5:07 AM - I also visited Poggerino this year and although I didn't hear the comment "finally a real red wine" I completely agree with everything you say about the wine! It does have its Tuscan red identity intact. I bought a bottle of this as the Chianti Classicos were actually cheaper to buy at home in Sweden then at the estate.
10/1/23, 12:34 PM - I love this review! Now that I have tried it, I know exactly what you mean!
9/29/23, 2:25 AM - I really like your enthusiasm shining through! I am myself very enthusiastic about Giulia's wines. It started with a visit to the estate last year and the 2018 Barolos that were clearly a thing of their own on our trip, and who all made a great impression on us.
9/22/23, 1:51 AM - Sounds wise. The last glass from the bottle stored in the fridge the day after was not oxidized at all, rather better than what it was the day before.
9/17/23, 8:29 AM - That’s very specific! So 22 years from the vintage unless it is released late.
8/31/23, 6:04 AM - "somewhat expensive for the quality" - it sounds very expensive for the quality based on your note! Kudos for your always well written, presumably honest reviews and I really like that you mention the price when speaking of QPR, too many on CT forget that market prices differ as do primary and secondary markets.
8/7/23, 4:54 AM - I've tried a glass thorugh Coravin only, and even though it seemed to develop with air and temperature and seemed like it had something to it after a good decant, I can also recognize what you are saying especially about the Aligoté typicity not being present. At least I think that is what the varietal is in this vintage. Curious though as to what price you mean it is not worth? I paid in the region of 36 euro personally, but I have seen some absolutely ridiculous secondary market prices that it is pretty easy to see it is not worth, without even trying the wine...
8/7/23, 5:11 AM - I think the 2021 was Riesling from Alsace but the importer I bought from said Aligoté, but who knows. It did taste a little bit like it could have Riesling or maybe Sauvignon Blanc in it...The 2021 red l'Ouverture from Gamay I really loved, but I paid something like 36 euro for that as well. For 99 euro you would be able to buy three nice bottles of wine, or two at least. I see it auctioned for 500 EUR including commission. It would be tempting to sell but I don't want to feed the monster or indeed betray the confidence bestowed upon me when given an allocation.
7/25/23, 11:06 PM - What price are you referring to? Do you mean the auction price of several hundred euro, then I agree!
7/25/23, 11:02 PM - I have not tried this vintage but this has been my impression from 2014, 2017 and 2019 also. So it’s interesting to read your confitmation on that.
7/4/23, 4:22 AM - Agree about the pricing in the secondary market, for these as well as for many other examples out there. I tend to keep my eye out for when it comes to my market and then buy for the equivalent of 50-65 USD (more expensive every vintage). This a very interesting Barolo at that price.
7/4/23, 5:40 AM - Actually these days they are released through something called "web release" which means you log in on a certain time on a certain date and get ready to click as soon the button turns green. Then you are limited to 2 bottles per person, and the bottles (normally something like 240 bottles for the whole country) are booked within minutes or probably even seconds. This is how a lot of rare wines are sold in Sweden. Low prices, but miniscule amounts. I think Cappellano Pie Rupestris 2016 was about 85 USD but there were maybe 16 or 24 bottles in total. There you are talking tenths of a second for them to be sold...
7/6/23, 3:34 AM - In theory yes, but I have my suspicions about automated scripts doing the clicking for some.
6/5/23, 9:21 AM - Can’t help but comment on this note even if it is 19 months old - you seem to have mistakenly voted ”don’t like” instead of ”like”.
5/14/23, 10:41 AM - Well he should know better than me, but then again he has a vested interest in the wines being noble wines that mature excellently rather than early drinkers. There might also be a difference of preferences. I don’t suppose he made his point by showing you an example of an older wine that was at peak?Either way thanks for the input!
4/5/23, 1:42 AM - Thanks, I appreciate the insight!
3/6/23, 7:35 AM - To be drunk in the coming few years, it sounds like?
2/14/23, 2:29 AM - Was it a red wine by any chance? I don’t think the Chardonnay was released in spring 2021.
2/10/23, 11:38 AM - I think that if a winemaker buys grapes from Chiroubles and vinifies them in a different region then they can’t call it Chiroubles.
1/9/23, 1:41 AM - Which label did you drink? The cinsault or the grenache-syrah?
1/6/23, 2:54 PM - Nice to hear about the chardonnay! However your note is planes on the barbera.
12/9/22, 1:42 AM - Appreciate you taking the time to write such detailed notes on this wine! The 2015 next I guess? What do you think the differences might be between these vintages?
12/9/22, 1:43 AM - Never mind I saw you had already commented on the differences over on the 2015 listing. But I do appreciate the notes!
11/29/22, 1:27 AM - Haha jag håller med om att det är lite långsökt att jämföra med Bourgogne premier cru.
10/16/22, 12:56 PM - I agree, not tired just unexpressive. Not sure it will come around. But one can hope.
10/16/22, 1:17 PM - Thanks I will try to have faith. Will probably be a few years before I try one again, which it should be.
7/3/22, 2:54 AM - Thanks for the comment! I see your point and didn’t mean to detract from the wine or the art of blending, not least since blending grapes have a long tradition in regions such as Bordeaux, Champagne and Rhône. I was just trying to say that I have a hard time making out what is blending and what is terroir when the blend is so unique! I enjoy for example the comparison of a pure chenin from SA with one from Loire. I also enjoy this wine very much as wines go, but felt I was unable to draw any conclusions about the origin from it. I clearly don’t have as much experience in South African wine as you do.
8/9/22, 12:02 PM - Thanks tward you are right, should say ”colder”.
6/25/22, 1:17 AM - This is the coolest thing I have ever heard! Thanks for the note and background story, I wish I could find a bottle.
6/19/22, 11:23 AM - Did you and username BISKUIT have the same bottle?
6/3/22, 11:15 PM - Thanks you for this note that gives me a good understanding of how you perceived the wine. Your comment about value though is difficult, because Burlotto is really hard to get at original release prices and I couldn’t see any shop on wine-searcher that asked less than 80 euros for this right now. At what price did you mean that it was a value?
6/5/22, 1:21 AM - Thanks PSPatrick för that insight! It seems reasonable, the price at which you call this a good value. Will keep that in mind.
5/29/22, 11:09 PM - Thank you for the compliment! Too bad about the wine. I have had two whites and a red from the producer from the 2018 vintage and they were all lacking in one way or other, don’t think I will come back soon.
12/28/21, 1:44 AM - What price have you paid? In Europe they are just below 30 euros which I think is more than fair.
12/28/21, 6:52 AM - Then I agree it needs to have a name of a village in Burgundy on the label to be worth it ;-)
10/19/21, 1:36 AM - Thanks for the comment and appreciation! I see why you are asking what I mean, I could have explained better - day one it is full on sangiovese in purezza but day two it had becomes more muted cherry, roses and more tannic. It then seemed more like a muted Nebbiolo to me, like a simple Langhe. But this comparison probably comes to my mind because I drink so much more Nebbiolo than Sangio, it could probably be seen just as much as a typically muted/oxidated sangio.
7/28/21, 4:21 AM - Thanks srh!
6/5/21, 9:22 AM - Du måste ha haft en dålig flaska. Låter inte alls som det jag dricker just nu.
3/7/21, 1:40 PM - Thanks Eric for your comment! It certainly does not sound like your review and I am aware of the fact that wines can show differently at different times, that bottle variation exists, that taste is subjective etc. I am in no way saying you were ”wrong”, just that I had higher hopes in the comparison of these three based on your reviews. I really enjoy your reviews by the way, they help me not only to what to try but also to make sense of what I’m tasting as I have the wine in my glass. I like that I’m often able to discern the ”feel” of the wine and not only the different aromas from your reviews, and this ”feeling” is more helpful than anything else to me. Thank you!
1/7/21, 2:05 AM - Thank you for this note, CT consensus of drink latest 2019 did seem a touch conservative… I only have one bottle, do you have a suggestion for how long to wait?
1/8/21, 3:59 PM - Thanks buddy, happy new year to you as well.
12/13/20, 4:46 AM - Well I guess I would have been more convinced if it had deteriorated by use of Coravin, not like now and several other times when the wine has improved under Coravin-gas. It would be quite curious if addition of air for 5 months would make it more aromatic rather than oxidized but not impossible I guess. I mean it does happen that we talk about bottle variation so why not variation in the taster or other circumstances - what did you eat that day, how tired are you, what are your expectations, what is the air pressure and humidity or temperature etc.
11/28/20, 11:13 PM - When you experience ”dirty notes” similar to brett but which airs off quite easily, this is in my understanding rather reduction, since the addition of air corrects it. There is no reason why brett would air off. Envinate is also consistently producing reductive wines, a product I believe of not using much addition of sulfites in the winemaking.
11/21/20, 3:22 AM - Very astute tasting note, I echo the same experience !
10/31/20, 10:04 AM - Hi! I expect the fruit that came of as quite candied to tone down giving more savoury notes, more room for that mineral streak to show more. What do you think?
9/19/20, 11:00 PM - Very astute comment on the good vs bad 2014s!
8/24/20, 12:04 PM - £20 was a good price indeed! I paid €37.50 em primeur from the domaine...
8/18/20, 9:55 PM - Spanish? :-)
8/5/20, 12:05 AM - Thanks for weighing in! I did thoroughly enjoy it and was surpriser at the quality, I mean Lamy has a good reputation but is not overly expensive and can often easily be sourced (compared to PYCM for example).
7/14/20, 3:54 PM - Think you made a mistande with the score.
7/15/20, 2:43 PM - :-)
7/2/20, 9:05 AM - :-(
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
