My reaction was closer to the WA rating than the below notes. Extremely long and concentrated. Closer to Burgundy than California. Although very enjoyable now, a long life ahead

5/12/22, 4:41 PM - For clarity, this is not a California wine... Tip of the cap to the Willamette Valley where credit is due.

Red
2010 Rhys Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard Santa Cruz Mountains
For me, Rhys does syrah better than any other grape. This particular wine has to most intense black olive smells and flavors I've ever encountered in a wine. I love a little olive note in my Northern Rhones, but this was tampenade on steroids! Despite the dominance of olives, there was some nice blackberry and a little bacon fat to keep in interesting. Medium bodied, long finish and amply acidic, this was really special. I noticed this note has "olive" written more often times than my other thousand TN's combined.

2/16/21, 2:38 PM - Spot on... black olive dominated the nose of this wine more so than any other which I have had. Still a very nice wine and in a very good place right now.

Red
2014 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel California
Dark ruby.
Big jammy concord grape jelly notes, some earth and black pepper.
Round in texture, some heat coming through in the finish, somewhat tart, very grapey.
Not my preferred style of zin (or anything really). Overly jammy fruits dominate the senses.

4/12/17, 5:40 PM - Surprising comment considering the other major wines in your portfolio a few of which fit the over ripe jammy description pretty well at times.

Red
2011 Rivers-Marie Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
This saw about an hour of air in the decanter. It hit the glass roaring with dark berries, some oak, chocolate, and spices but after about an hour it really lost its luster. A function of the vintage? Maybe, next time I will not decant.

9/1/15, 5:58 PM - Ditto on the experience. I PnP the next one and it was good to go and a rock star.

Decent but not amazing for the price tag. Good structure in the front and a over powering black pepper finish. Decanted and over 2 hours never really opened.
  • Madkat commented:

2/23/13, 11:47 AM - Perhaps MMOSS had an off bottle of this wine as this was a WE 98 rated bottle. Having had several bottles of this in the past it is one of the better pinots I have ever had. Granted it is not from Missouri or Tennessee.
