One of our favorite California white Rhone blends
Floral, but right amount of acidity
Cries out for Asian or Asian-prepared seafood

Last bottle. This is wonderful Zin in all aspects. If you are lucky enough to have any more-the vineyard was infested w phylloxera and pulled out-it is close to pop n pour. Too much air will thin it out. Spectacular wine, sad it is gone. Thanks Joe Shebl.

A full afternoon of breathing didn’t get this to open much. Tight, young and a bit sharp. Would wait at least a year, but doubt it will live up to the wine mag promises. Not bad, but disappointing

2nd of 4 bottles. Close to a full day of breathing made this superior wine sing.
Fully fleshed-out Cab, tannins present but did not overwhelm the elegant earthy red fruit. Really a top shelf Cab, the brothers deserve their due for year after year excellence.

Decent Sonoma sparkling wine. For the price, entry level Korbel is just as good. No way this is 100 points.

This is a strong case for bottle variation. Tonight's wine was exceptional with spicy tomato chicken creole and it not only stood up to the dish, but the wine was exceptional as well. It had that musty, earthy, cellar-like taste you find with fine Spanish Riojas, but the taste was blueberry jam, but not overly sweet. Great balance and integration. Drinking perfectly now with some afternoon breathing, do not pop and pour.

Really nice effort that highlights how good Washington state Cabernets have become, although at 77% Cab, the rest Merlot and Cab Franc, this is almost more a Bordeaux blend and it seems like that, without needing ridiculously long aging. Varietally correct, a tad more than medium-bodied and elegant. Definitely a grilled meat Cab. Sad I can't find any more in town, especially since this has great QPR ($37 I think?).

Bottle variation from the prior tasting note that was 90. This did not seem integrated and still had a few rough edges, but clearly a Zinfandel.

While we prefer California style Viognier, we are ok with the Alsatian/Rhone style if it has the varietal elements. This more austere style fell short of that. A decent house wine or quaffer, but no better than that. Definitely not a 91 Mr Suckling.

Exceptionally thin despite the 15% alcohol
A few distant fruit notes but kind of mailed in

Took a while to open up even after an afternoon of breathing, but we were well-rewarded. This is a more restrained style, but not light, medium-bodied.
As it opened up, complex tastes of menthol, lighter red fruit, long finish. One to save for a special meal or occasion. For us, lightly-smoked beer can chicken with multiple southern sides. A more elegant style but quite worthy.

Pretty good, but has not developed over time as we'd hoped. Heavy on the alcohol inducing a rare hangover for not that much consumed. Our tastes have matured to where we don't appreciate the warm weather heavy on alcohol and fruit Syrah/Shiraz, which this is.

Hands down one of the best Sauv Blancs we have ever had other than Chateau Carbonneiux, but this has no Semillon, 100% Sauv Blanc. Typical grapefruit and lemongrass without being too austere. This has just a touch of oak (really not noticeable). Sadly, no more left in town, so we will dole out the remaining 3 carefully...probably best a summer wine.

Bottle and tasting variation is a real thing. Our 2nd and last bottle we gave a full afternoon of breathing and it seemed better than the first by a nose. Definitely a Cab, although a bit more on the smoother side, but not lacking nuance and depth. Recommend.

Drinking perfectly now, although needs several hours breathing to optimize. The Cab seemed the star and standout, even though only 32% of the blend. Year after year, although mass-produced, great QPR for those taken aback by high Bordeaux and Napa prices. Probably at its best between now and end of year 2023. Perfect wine for a grilled steak. Torn between a 90 and 91, went with 90.

Drinking perfectly now, but a couple hours of breathing will optimize it. Totally varietally correct, what I remember from the 1980's when I first tasted Zins and fell in love with the varietal.
Do not see long term aging, drink now.

Reliably wonderful Cali version of Rhone whites. Floral, stone fruit without being sweet or austere. This wine cries out for Asian food pairing, but a darn good quaffer on it's own. Year after year. Good QPR for a different white wine than is usually served.

Somewhat of a disappointment. Let it breathe, decanted, but still tannic and tight without the fruit displaying the full spectrum of tastes expected. Some rough edges, not fully integrated.
Shared the magnum with 4 others.
After better than 8 years, still too young which seems amazing.
We understand European wines really benefit from aging, but 8+ years?
Wasn't bad, just fell short of expectations even for a 750 Bordeaux bottle.

This is a mishmash of all the Bordeaux varietals plus Petite Sirah resulting in a very robust red that is almost overpowering. Spouse liked it a lot better than I did, just found it hard to discern any of the varietals and their signature tastes, although from what I can tell, good grapes were used.
Probably best with spicy food, grilled red meat, maybe red sauce Italian dishes. We did give it an afternoon of breathing, but we'll hold the second bottle for a while to see if aging takes the rough edges off or if there is bottle variation.

Truly one of the best Pinots we have ever had and one of the best Roar Pinots. Look is thin red, initial taste and bouquet are restrained, but WOW, the finish is long-lasting and packs a middle weight punch with notes of clove, other spice and red cherries. Everything is well-integrated and in balance. Perfect pairing for Thanksgiving turkey and the usual sides.
This is in a perfect drink window now, but give it an afternoon of breathing for best results. I hate how the word awesome is used, but it is applicable for this wine, this vineyard, this vintage.

A bit too heavy on the toast and yeast upon opening, but that quickly disappeared. A little on the astringent side, but the acidity makes food pairing good, but a must. Definitely some stone fruit, with touches of the yeast and toast evident, though not as much as when first opened.
Not so much fun as a quaffer.
For the price versus quality, we're sticking with Mumm and Moet and for half the price domestic Roederer, Gloria Ferrer and others.
A purchase from Wine Spectrum, can't really give this a thumbs up or down.

First of 3 bottles. Rather fruit forward, as Amador Zins tend to be (not always a good thing), but it settled down as the night went on. Might smooth out in another 6-12 months. Really loved their Jack Rabbit Flat single vineyard-some of the best Zin ever-but the vineyard suffered phylloxera and has been pulled up.
This is a decent deal for $20 or so. Definitely more robust than Dry Creek or Paso Robles Zins (I prefer Dry Creek), but enjoyable.

Sadly, this single vineyard became infested with phylloxera, so all pulled out. We have one bottle left, but if any of you do, drink now as the bottle we had tonight-while quite superior, was showing signs of beginning to fade. So, drink now, probably popnour.

Sadly, last bottle. This was an immensely enjoyable and budget-friendly Napa Cab. All about the fruit. Some extra nuances and depth would have yielded a higher score, but for the money, I can't complain. Great QPR.
Great vintage. Not sure subsequent vintages will be this good.

One of the best Syrahs we've ever tasted- luscious, rich, huge depth of black fruit flavors with touch of menthol. This was clearly a great bottle, but not really our preferred Rhone style, but we didn't dock any points for personal preferences. We know a great wine when we taste it.
Drinking perfectly well now.

Last bottle and it will drink well with a full afternoon of breathing. The Sangiovese shines through but the other varietals smooth out the rough edges. For the money, this is about the best Super Tuscan out there and a great match for anything with red sauce, it's robust enough to stand up to it and pair well.

A story of bottle variation...
Our 8/22 review was less than stellar, but the bottle opened this week (let it breathe quite a bit for best results) was much better.
Very nice Argentinian Bordeaux blend, heavy on the Malbec, so fruit forward and tending towards robust. Good value and should continue to slough off the rough edges in the next year or two.

Bought 6 bottles at Costco for $29.99 ea in 2021, this is second review and last bottle. This is truly the best French Champagne (there is no "Champagne" except from that area in France) for the money. Enjoyable fruit and toast without being too austere, definitely not sweet.
Great QPR.

As prior notes indicate, the acid is more balanced than many Sauvignon Blanc, but this was missing a lot of the lemon grass essential to varietal correctness. Not bad, but didn't taste like a Sauv Blanc.

Been drinking their Cab for better than 15 years. Struggled with this one. After letting it breathe for 5+ hours, it still seemed a bit young. Saved a bit for second night and it opened up better, as it did the night before, but this is still pretty tight. Have three more bottles, so time will tell.
Their Cab really does need significant aging, like many French, Italian and Spanish wines, but I thought 8 years would be enough. If you're going to have this, give it lots of air and try decanting.

3 bottles, different ratings, but this 88 is best expressed as being that the drinking window is now open and the previous reviews (86,87) were before this was all settled down, which it is now. I would say this seems to be a cooler country version of Syrah; not a fruit or alcohol bomb and it had enough oomph to pair with chicken mole' and red rice&beans. Quite enjoyable and worth the price. McPrice Meyers- please distribute to Denver and northern Colorado!

3 bottles, 3 entries: 87, 89 and 91. I guess there is such a thing as bottle and palate variation, but after 3 bottles of this, 89 seems to be the final answer. Tonight's indicated another year or two would make this better, but at the end of the day, as good as it was, it just falls short of 90 or above due to a slight lack of character and depth. Stilll, when bought at Costco for $27 as we did, got to say great QPR.

Nice, fruit forward Malbec, drink now. More elegant with dark fruit than an in your face Malbec you see in this price range. That opens up wine pairing with less robust dishes such as grilled salmon or chicken. I actually appreciated the more elegant style, but it’s not a top of the line Malbec. Very party friendly

This opened up nicely as the evening progressed, assisted by a full afternoon of breathing. It started out being, yes, a nice Napa Cab. Our style is a little more forward (perhaps some Petit Verdot or Cab Franc added), but even though this is more elegant and smooth than some, it has a whole lot going for it, and the best news of all is it had entered the drinking window, but we'd recommend against pop'n'pour. Give it some air. Don't see a long life for this bargain of a wine, but why wait? Let the grumpy ones who need more years age and drink this.
