2012 Travaglini Gattinara Nebbiolo
last bottle of this. Still very good Nebbiolo. Can go longer but excellent with food and just a cool expression of the grape.

4/4/20, 7:37 AM - Hi. Depends how you like your wine. It can go a few more years for sure, but I'd probably drink it by end of 21. I don't think it's going to get better than it is. Enjoy. :)

Red
2014 Hirsch Vineyards Pinot Noir East Ridge Sonoma Coast
Pretty light garnet. Cherry with some earth undertones. Good acidity and grab cherry on the palate. Delicate wine that can age linger. Eat with lighter Pinot foods. Probably not great with heavy food.

10/30/19, 1:38 PM - Sorry @seijaro, I don't do numbers. Besides, what I like in a wine might be diametrically opposed to what you like. In other words, a number that I ascribe to a wine isn't really an indication of whether or not you'd like it. The description captures how I felt about the wine.

Guy's Night Out (Jason's, St. Paul, MN): Deep golden to amber color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes Very bright on the nose, creme brulee, tangerine, peach, pineapple, honey, great texture, spice, wonderful balance. Damn these are good, but I just realized it was my last bottle - going to have to find more.

Had this over five days and the wine never truly came around, though it does appear to have the stuff to make old bones. I'm thinking Burghound's drinking window of start in 2024 is probably good advice. The medium nose offers tart sour cherry and dried herbs. The palate is highly structured with big upfront acids and light-to-medium weight compact fruit. Clamps down in the finish. Only intellectual pleasure today. Will hold my remaining bottles for 5+ years.

1/17/17, 12:53 PM - I think everyone was suckered in by the price and the ratings inflation on the wine.

Encore une fois délcieux ce nectar d'or.
Assez sucré mais tout de même fort complexe et tout simplement divin.
Des notes de caramel Écossais, d'ananas, de poires et d'abricots avec du miel et des dattes.
Long, long et très persistant.
SUPERBE.

Served double blind. Intense, translucent purple-ruby. The nose was fresh cut cherry and cranberry for days with subtle herbal notes. On the palate this is light bodied and very fruity. I was guessing this was a good Bojo or maybe Trousseau as it had that high-toned character, good intensity but not much depth. Disappointed on reveal to see this was Ceritas Pinot (as I have a bunch in my cellar) and don't want my Cali Pinot to taste like Bojo. Re-tasting on night two and this is showing similarly.

I'm a fan. It's in the sweet spot. Old world style with some of that Santa Cruz funk, but balanced. Will drink my other bottle soon...just wish I had more.

Tasted blind after a night of lots of wine. It was hard to peg as Chardonnay. It was clearly new world and lacked a finish. In fairness, this was tasted against a Grand Cru white Burgundy.

5/21/16, 8:16 AM - You're right about it being tough to evaluate after a night of drinking. The wine is much more Chablis than GC WB. There's little to no oak, and a strong acidic finish. A great wine for starting the evening, but yeah, it would get crushed end of evening, particularly against GC that would cost 5x in price. If you have any others, try it as an aperitif.

Light Ruby. Balanced, with a nice touch of earth -- but overall a bit thin. I suppose we expected a bit more, based on the professional reviews. Still, quite nice over four nights.

3/1/16, 7:02 AM - Allen Meadows summed it up pretty well I think: "While this is presently backward it should be approachable after 6 to 8 years of bottle age though note that it should live for a very long time."

14.8% abv. Deep ruby with expressive aromatics. Cherries, black raspberry, bramble and spice. Exceptional depth and length. An outstanding showing from one of the RRV's most iconic historic vineyards.

2/18/16, 5:48 PM - Was at WS and hadn't had a Zin in over a decade. Was blown away by the elegance of the wine. Tasted like just what you'd think WS would do with a Zin if given the chance.

Excellent wine. Doing great and has many years left. People who rated this low have either had a bad bottle or only like super fruity American pinot.

Evolved significantly over a couple hours. Bricked, on the nose had muted red fruits, honey, light cedar, earth, truffle, chocolate. Taste has plum and red fruits, mushroom, earth. As time went on, it was dominated by sweet pinot fruits. Really long finish of earth, dark fruit with some light drying. Did have a touch of heat which kept it from being outstanding.

I thought it had gone bad after a few hours open. Disappointing for Thanksgiving. Second night was worse.

12/3/15, 9:02 AM - Wondering if you had a bad or corked bottle. I had a bottle a week ago and it was fine. Not the best wine in the world, but definitely not a bad bottle.
