Third bottle premoxed. Inexcusable for a great vintage.

Yet another premoxed bottle. I’m done with this producer.

Nicely balanced minerality on the nose gives
rise to lushly textured ripe Bosc pear, white peach, blood orange and lemon zest, and lightly toasted hazelnut. This is at its apogee — a pleasant surprise among recent Maltroyes of the 2013 and 2014 vintages, most of which have been quite “advanced”, shall we say. This is a perfect Carpe Diem wine. No reason to wait. Pull the cork and enjoy.

Showing early signs of premox. Alas, not uncommon with this producer

First bottle was showing early oxidation and was, sadly, euthanized. Second was quite lovely. Sea breeze, oyster shell, ripe lemon, not super complex, but a nice pairing with herb marinated shrimp. Risk/reward suggests drinking sooner rather than later.

This is in a very good place right now. Still fresh, with Bosc pear, white flowers, subtle lemon and bracing minerality. Still exhibits the characteristic 2010 tension, which is slowly moderating based on previous tastings. Has some good years left.

Fruity and jammy. Sadly, no structure. None. I don’t see any future ahead for this one.

This is more advanced than the last bottle. Rich golden color with predominant honey notes; citrus and minerality evident but receding. This is fully mature, and then some. No upside from here. On the cusp of oxidation; beware of bottle variation. Remarkable contrast to recent 2011 deMontille Pulignys that remain fresh and vibrant.

The first bottle showed the first hints of premox so opened a second which was fresh and vibrant. This shows all the tension one expects in the 2014s, and then some. Citrus and chalk predominate on the nose, while some apple and pear make a fleeting appearance on the palate.

Vibrant citrus and minerality on the nose lead to more of the same on the palate. This wine is still quite youthful and energetic, with palpable tension and not the slightest hint of premox. A fine example of Clos de la Mouchere.

Zero for two. Premoxed. The only good news is there were my last two bottles. Happily, the evening was saved by a ‘08 Boillot Clos de la Mouchere.

Rich dark red. Blackberries and dark ripe cherries dominate on the note, then raspberry reveals itself on the palate, on a substrate of forest floor and mushroom. Tannins mature and nicely integrated. This feels like it is near its peak although I suspect there are some good years ahead.

Quite lovely. Subtle, understated, but very Meursault. Went quite well with Lobster risotto. Oh so welcome after three premoxed 2009 Boillot (un)Charmes went down the drain.

I opened this with some trepidation given recent CT notes of premox. Happily, this was just fine and quite pleasant. Ripe Bosc pear, honeysuckle, lemon curd, toasted almonds, nicely balanced acidity and minerality. This did not reveal any of the greenness associated with some wines of this vintage.

Yes another disappointing older Peter Michael Chardonnay. Partially oxidized. To assuage my disappointment, I opened a 2006 Sauzet Puligny Montrachet Les Referts. Delightful. I’d rather play premox roulette with older white Burgs than risk further disappointment with older Cali chards.

What a pleasant surprise after a disappointing string of premoxed Fevre 08s. Clean crisp minerality, citrus, stone fruit, and white flowers all in harmonious balance.

After a disappointing run of premoxed Fevre ‘08s, this was a pleasant surprise. Lovely pale gold. Nicely balanced acidity. Typical limestone minerality, lemon, hazelnut. Hoping for good luck in future rounds of Fevre roulette!

Yet another premoxed bottle of the ‘08 Grenouille. Not as bad as the last, but overall a sad track record for Fevre ‘08s.

Premoxed. Opened three Fevre 2008s tonight, two were premoxed. (1 Bougros, 1 Grenouilles). The last Grenouilles was fine. Unacceptable batting average outside of MLB.

Overly extracted, too sweet. Nothing subtle or elegant about this wine. Lament of a Burgundian.

Slightly but noticeably premoxed. Third bottle of 2002 YBM Meursault ldown the drain tonight. Enough.

Premox. As with 2002 Narvaux and Geneveries. Very disappointing. Unfortunately, consistently bad experience across YBM 2002 Meursault and Puligny Montrachet. Hope they learned something.

Tasted in Aspen 7/28/2013. This is still closed down. Some hints of red fruit reluctantly appear, but most fruit is hiding bashfully behind dusty tannins. I'd give this at least two more years.
