Unusual to find a well aged Medoc available by the glass - at Restaurant Didon on Rue du Dragon. C.Aubell has it on the nose.

Singing right now this big stout guy. Will be delightful in 2029 but who wants to wait Delicious with the ris de veau at Allard on St André des Arts.

This was a wine-by-the-glass at the restaurant Au Pere Louis in the 6th arrondisement, and it had me shaking my head. How could a wine with no particular geographical distinction be this good. Fruity and smooth, a mouthful of charm, 8.50 euros by the glass and probably not much more by the bottle wherever it’s available here.

Deliciously corse, with a bit of barnyard on the nose followed by dark fruit.

Terrific stuff! Flowers, violets, and black fruit on the bouquet but the palate is dark chocolate and eucalyptus, long finish.

Charming, fruity but crunchy, with a heavyweight note, a contralto rather than a soprano, quite delicious with food.

Yummy as before. Caspernick's review below has the finest grain of note on the wine, but it's pure pleasure to drink especially as a $14 purchase from LastBottle.

Agree with Manson's note about the wine, it's silky and fruity. Just not wild about its being $22 a glass at the Harvard Club but the alternatives are last year's pinot noir.

This time it comes off as fruity the fruit bomb. Very full, lots of raspberry and strawberry in the nose and on the palate with the forest floor notes receding into the background. Enjoyable, made me remember what I like about new world pinot.

The rosé is an 85/15 mix of chardonnay and pinot noir, the latter providing the light salmon color in the glass, nose had strawberry and raspberry notes, palate was crunchy with citrus, lotsa tiny bubbles, medium finish. But it tastes like one integrated thing rather than a moving target. Served as an aperitif with a bunch of nibbles: marcona almonds, duck grieben, rillettes de canard and spiced tuna on endive. I continued to drink it with the cassoulet and it went perfectly well with it.
Wish I had a case of this!

Excellent unpretentious cote de rhone. As before, it's very herbal but it's integrated with the red fruits and chocolate and forest floor. There are bad bottles, we had one or two, but for the most part the wine does not disappoint.

The first red wine at the cassoulet dinner. As before, did not disappoint, though my picky son the somm said it was "a little hot." Well it's a 14.5% abv wine, but after 15 years in bottle I felt it had mellowed.

Wonderful conclusion to the cassoulet party of 2024, a dessert wine from the Dordogne to serve with tarte au citron. Still primary with honey and almond and apricots. Gift of the Faragos who have no idea how they themselves came by it.

Jolting acidity is the first impression, then something creamy, with vaniilla and butterscotch in the aftertaste. There's also a high note I can't put my finger on which may be an unusual form of volatile acidity, not acetic acid but some long chain beast. Not over the hill at all. These old dames can be strange!

Barnyard stench out of control. As CFRANCES33 put it, "Very reductive and stinky with a manure quality" has it right on the nose. There's fruit and maybe spice on the other side of it but it certainly did not "blow off" after "twenty minutes." After well over 90 minutes I poured my glass down the drain.
But I corked up the bottle instead of pitching it. Next day I poured another glass, and it was a very different experience. The fecal bouquet was gone, just a trifle of "countryside funk," and instead there were typical pinot noir fruit aromas and flavors, raspberry and a bit of plum. Drank it with fennel/onion tarte tatin followed by semi-hard sheep cheese and cheddar.
So if you have any of this, open it at least a day before drinking it.

I don't think this bottle has cork taint like the last one but it's not an unalloyed pleasure to drink. I'm post covid so it may be me rather than the wine--though I took great pleasure last Sunday in the 2010 Arietta. So maybe I like mature bordeaux and bordeaux blends but not ones that are already into tertiary aromas and flavors.
Tried it the next day and then poured it down the drain.

Stunning! Still filled with jammy fruit, raspberry primarily, but some of the secondary flavors are starting to come out. Very well integrated, pure pleasure to drink with good food. Reminds me of my first taste of Chateau Latour.

No detailed notes taken, but this was one terrific bottle of Fleurie, fruity, juicy, and fullbodied. Certainly very ready to drink. Later on: the nose is wild strawberries with a floral edge, violets; on the palate more red fruit, cherry and red plum, juicy, with a bit of butterscotch and cardamom, long finish.

What Patrick_from_Champagne said is right on target: Bright ruby, elegant nose with cherry and cassis, chocolate, a bit of spice and some vanilla. Structured, with a long finish, well balanced. It was $35 a glass at Essential by Christophe, but a wonderful glass of wine it was. Served with my cheese course.

The drying tannins were very much in evidence, more than in previous bottles, but the wine continues delicious, a bouquet of luscious fruit underpinned by juicy acidity. Great buy from Acker auction $170 for a 12-bottle case, less than $15 a bottle.

In honor of the new Napoleon film, we should remind ourselves of what General Cambronne is supposed to have said about the Old Guard at Waterloo: "La Garde meurt mais ne se rend pas." Well, this Old Guard isn't dead by any means: stony minerality, juicy citrus, and lots of charm.

Brought to Thanksgiving with Marc and Sally's machatunim, because I thought they were from the area of the wine (Binyamin). Actually they are from Binyamina, somewhere quite different. It was a decent bordeaux-style red, nothing very special.

Popped and poured. First impression is of great balance: there's fruit certainly but there's also something floral in the nose, violets, and a whiff of caramel. Midtaste is good, nothing sags, and there's a sweetish finish that makes you want to have another sip. Glad I have a case of this.

Dark garnet in the glass. Lots of plummy fruit at the beginning of the bouquet but that quickly settles down to secondary aromas--leather and cigarbox--with some spice and forest floor. Drying tannins, just a tad, on the tongue at the beginning. 100% merlot.
Nothing off color here. This little monster seems to have survived 25 years in the bottle very nicely, but I don't propose holding it for further development. $16 each for eight in the Acker auction.

Great sangiovese wine delicious with pasta. Drunk as a half bottle with our first meal in Firenze. I love the fact that wine in Firenze costs about as much for a bottle as a glass does in New York.

Perfect conclusion to a traditional Rosh Hashanah dinner, served with the obligatory Marian Burros plum torte. Tropical fruit, caramel, honey, offset by the bright acidity balancing its intense sweetness. Long finish. (This was an open bottle that had featured at the Monday night wine tasting as the wine of the night.) Agree that this wine will last for many years but I'm not a fan of hyperaged maderized sauternes, and I think this is now at its peak.
