Smoke and leather on the nose. Somewhat tart and acidic palate with a little sour cherry and good (bracing) tannin on the finish. Long finish that echoes dark cherry. Has come a little more into balance now, drinking well, if a little aggressively.

Rose and cherry on the nose, with a touch of forest floor. Smooth but maybe fading palate with just enough acidity and tannin in the end to back it up. Drinking really well right now, not sure how much longer it'll last.

Smoky nose, with undertones of forest floor, somewhat aggressive and cough-syrupy. Bright red cherry fruit and lots of acid. Tough wine to like right now. Much more on the rustic side of wines, and in a pretty awkward stage right now.

Surprisingly revived itself! Not the most complex of wines, but a nice soft palate and sufficient acidity to make for a pleasant bottle.

Herbs on the nose that eventually converge to something minty. Dusty tannins with a long and captivating finish. Drinking especially well now, not sure if there's much fruit left for later.

Improved on the 3rd day. The nose calmed down to more subdued fruit, the palate opened up, although the finish became a little dusty.

Grape jolly rancher on the nose, a really quick palate, and a punch of fruity acidity and tannin at the end. A little more relaxed the next day, apparently a little too soon to be drinking!

Something off-putting in the nose, sour palate and acidity without too much tannin. Probably left it go for too long.

A little jammy at first, with time a touch dusty and ashy on the palate. Very soft integrated tannins, surprised me at how well it's finishing now.

Drinking well now, licorice and peppermint on the nose. Not a lot of tannin left, but a decent acidity to hold it together. Some softening tannins remain, but a touch of oxidation saying any remaining bottles should be finished soon.

Very nice nose after opening up in the glass: leather and black cherry. Still a little tight in the palate, but good acidity and decent tannins, a semi-long finish. Probably good for at least another few years.

Has indeed settled down, seems to have lost the effervescence, but still pretty astringent. Subdued fruit makes it drinkable now, but rob ably not much hope for it improving with more time.

Red licorice and oak, some herbal notes on the nose. Restrained fruit and tight tannins, good candidate for aging. 85% merlot, 15% cabernet sauvignon, 4% cabernet franc, 1% other.

Still a young wine in appearance, very vibrant purple color. Mineral driven nose, with some notes of strawberry. A good astringency with some green tannins in the finish. Drinkable now (14.1% ABV to balance the acid and tannin), but will hopefully open up over time.

100% sangiovese from a very traditional producer. A raisiny node with a complex set of flavors on the palate. Tannic finish (let this one age some!), strong acidity, but mellows with time in the glass.

Honey on the nose, tart palate, a touch of lingering bitterness and minerality. Macerated on the skins for a few days before pressing and fermenting. Interestingly, San Gimignano was once the saffron capital of the world, and is also the first DOCG in Italy.

Mostly sangiovese with a dash of canaiolo. A little leather on the nose with a touch of barnyard, almost reminiscent of prosciutto. Very well balanced, a somewhat subdued chianti compared to others, and from the 2006 "classic" vintage in Tuscany. Ready to drink now.

Had a touch of a sour nose, and seemed a little frizzante, especially on the back of the palate (in fact it foamed up after decanting back into the bottle and pumping out with a bottle saver!). Kind of harsh and in-your-face, hard to drink right now. Hopefully will settle down with a little time.
