Vintage 2010 Tasting; 10/24/2020-10/25/2020 (Bronte, Sydney): very dark, black
deeply fragrant pure cassis, a hint of tar
pure dark berries, just a hint of tobacco leaf, soft and refined, very long, tannins present but very fine, has many years ahead of it, not much development yet, impressive

10/26/20, 1:09 AM - Hi Chatters, no didn't decant but it did get an hour in the glass. Palate weight was less heavy than I might have anticipated, barely any heavier than the Black Label we had alongside, hardly noticeable. I was actually quite impressed by its refinement.

3 of 3 Good colour and great cork. It was rank smelling of bread yeast. Purchased at auction on 2014. Could not drink.

Very disappointing with these purchases. 3 out of 3 off.

If anyone has any more would be interested if there is still a good bottle around.I may have purchased a batch that had not been stored well. Other comments suggest most are dead. Sad for what is supposed to be their premium wine.

Gosh this is pleasant ; what an unexpected mouthful of lovlieness.

Pretty tannic still but with areal sense of place , of authenticity; a wine that says this is where I am from, like it or lump it.

I have never had this wine before so liking it was a complete surprise. Something good is going on in the vineyard and cellar .Plummy , figgy flavours somehow merge into something much nicer than either .

I can't even remember where , when or how much on purchase ; it must be a bargain though surely ?

8/2/17, 4:25 AM - Glad you enjoyed it, one of my favourites. It comes from a pretty special site and a very fine maker. look up the other sister 'Emily' it moves a little towards the dark side, even better imho.

Very dark but not quite as dark as normal.
Deeply scented and very smooth, fruit driven - blueberry, violet and blood plum. Some dark spice, but more floral characters.
Silky smooth entry, fleshy middle and a crisp finish. Very fine tannins, soft and furry. Delicious blue fruits, ink, and a dark tar and licorice spice lingering on the finish. Has a more refined elegant style than perhaps I'm used to from older vintages. Totally delicious and very much an Emily's.

10/18/16, 3:13 PM - G'day ESCO, as a matter of fact yes I have, about 6 months ago we tasted about 20 wines from 2006 including Emily. My notes are not uploaded but basically it scored similarly and the tannins were more noticeable in a blind line-up than suggested in my earlier note. This wine lasts forever, I have a bunch of '88s that still look very youthful.
    cheers

Black with an earth developed looking rim.
Incredibly rich yet elegant, blood, meat stock, coffee, earth, game, black fruits, violet floral lift.
Silky smooth, super rich, finishes with very fine tannins. Lovely structure. Flavours are very rich and quite developed. Blood, coffee, meat stock, plums and blackcurrant. Absolutely delicious. Like a powerful aged chateauneuf. Quite developed for its age but drinking beautifully nonetheless.

Stunning nose of rose petals and some menthol and tar. On the palate there's a beautiful contrast of power and grace. Supple and beautiful, with a water like effortlessness to drinking it. Profound, yet it's not trying to be. A wine that just is. Grace and class in the glass. Will be in my running for WOTY come December I suspect. Fantastically youthful, effortless beautiful wine. Statuesque. Wow. 98 pts

A beautiful lifted nose with rose, lychee, spice and orange preserves. It's pure, clean a deep with a nose that really draws you in. Mid weight and very fresh for Gewurz with Lift and focus that transcend the variety's tendency for fatness. It comes across as opulent yet with a sense of weightlessness. There's a beautiful mineral-stoniness and acidity (for Gewurz) that give this wine terrific tension, freshness and balance. Pure, deep, effortless and incredibly drinkable. In a cool spot where the fruit and the spice play and there is nice tension. Yet another wine that makes me think that Weinbach is the best producer of Gewurz on earth. Drinking beautifully right now. 93pts

How not to drink a wine. Discover a bottle in your refrigerator and have no idea how it got there. Come home from work one night to find your wife has started to cook with it. Shove it back untasted into the refrigerator with a loose stopper and forget about it. Open it up two weeks later and pour a glass. Now if this wine tasted like bad sherry it could only have been my fault. But miraculously it didn't. There was a lilting grapefruit fragrance and some fruit with a straw-like finish, and only minor signs of oxidation. What is this stuff? Clearly there was something really good in here (it's 7 years old for god's sake) before I butchered it. No rating under the circumstances except for the zero that should be tattoed on my forehead. Note to self, figure out how it came into my undeserving possession.

Burgs & Barolos (Bronte): pale yellow, good lustre, but not obviously old
virtually nothing on the nose, some faint hint of florals on long aeration.
lovely off-dry wine, definite residual sugar gives weight and a pleasing long after-taste. not overly complex, mainly about honeyed fruits, not much spice. a decent not especially long finish. drinks beautifully given its age.
  • Vini Ciclismo commented:

11/22/14, 7:50 PM - Thanks Chatters, we had some pate on the go during this first bracket and it went very nicely with this wine.

Medium ruby colour, no tawny. nose of old fireplace char from burned eucalyptus. Palate dry with plenty of tannin. some dark fruit. plenty of length but some bitterness. Don't know if it needs more time or is falling apart.
  • Vini Ciclismo commented:

5/28/14, 3:59 AM - Whatever it is, 'burned eucalyptus' doesn't sound too appealing! Falling apart, or maybe never was any good. Had any other bottles since?

black core, red rim. rich and smooth, black berries, mulberry, tobacco leaf spice, earthy and very fragrant.
very smooth, deep dark plums, tobacco leaf, cigar box, long and even, strong fine tannins, poised, red earthy edge.

8/11/13, 12:32 AM - For me to score it like that the acid had to be reasonably in balance, although to be honest it's too long ago to remember! I've got a few more so I will pay more attention and note the acid next time.

Soft lychee and tropical fruits. Hint of rosewater, med intensity nose.
Sweet fruit, deeply honeyed and with Turkish delight. Pulpy, fleshy and rich. Quite creamy, very smooth and with good length. Not OTT cloying, easily drink multiple glasses.

8/11/13, 12:29 AM - There's so much going on with these wines when young it just hard to stay away from them. Enjoy!
