Decanted 30 minutes. Light bodied and delicate with feminine red fruit at first, then evolved over the course of four hours, becoming darker with stronger tannins. Interestingly the cork was stamped with AF Gros.

i'm a sucker for older rhones so keep that in mind, as i did not find this at all past peak or oxidized. at peak now for sure however. full, viscous, dry with a hint of sage and honey. a long, complex palate. this was simply wonderful. mine stored pristine at 57degrees.

This wine is inky in the glass with a bouquet of sour cherry and muted vanilla. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with the same sour cherry and muted vanilla, as well as blackberry, blueberry, and licorice. It has a lengthy, oak-infused finish. Yet another example of just how subjective wine tasting can be. One critic, for example, referred to the wine's Pinot-like qualities. There's nothing even vaguely resembling the flavor profile of that varietal in this wine. While another critic commented on the wine's "seamless" qualities. In my estimation, it will take at least 5 years in the cellar before this hot and tannic wine even approaches seamless, which I assume is a synonym for integrated.
  • Diama commented:

3/20/15, 10:11 PM - Couldn't agree more with your review on Melville's Syrah and the descriptor "seamless," which is anything but descriptive.
