Medium.full bodied, elegant, finesse styled Pauillac with a focus on freshness, silky, smooth tannins and ripe cassis, blackberries, earth, thyme, tobacco and cedar wood aromatics. On the palate, the wine is fresh, sweet, lively and serves up ample, ripe, sweet, spicy fruits in the finish. Still young, there is not much in the way of secondary development yet, but there is such a wealth of ripe fruit and silk tannins, like many 2009 Bordeaux wines, they can be deceptively easy to drink in their youth. The wine was made from a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot.

This is really coming around. The soft, plush, ripe, polished character with layers of lush, sweet juicy fruit is more than ready to go. That being said, there is no hurry to drink it, but there is no need to wait either.

10/6/14, 4:48 PM - Timely review. Just purchased three bottles of the 2005 and a couple of the 2004 from winebid.com yesterday. Now really looking forward to their arrival!

I have your page saved as a favorite and always stop to see what you think if I am unfamiliar with the producer. You have yet to steer my right bank palate wrong!

This great QPR wine is why I love bordeaux! Expressive nose with dark fruits. Follows through with predominantly black \ dark fruits. A bit of tannins but in an excellent spot. Follows through with some tar and cvigar box.

Cork fell apart. Decanted and served immediately. Nose and palate lacking fruit, but much earth, leather and veggies. Very old world like, especially when compared to the 2010 Barnett Rattlesnake Hills that was also served. If scoring 91-93.

7/23/14, 7:49 AM - Thanks for the update. I bought a bottle to open for my BiL's 40th birthday. Will let you know how my bottles shows..........if it shows at all. Bottle looks good but you never know with a 40 yr old bottle purchased from auction.

  • KCBrian commented:

8/4/14, 10:49 AM - Drank our 74 BV GT on Saturday night. Cork was actually in very good condition. Decanted and noticed the color of the wine was very light. Let is sit in the decanter for 30 min or so and began drinking. Brother inlaw and I drank most because the women didn't like this wine. We both thought is was a bit old but very drinkable and in fact improved a bit through the next hour. It started with just a bit of fruit and that component actually improved the most. But given the age there was definately some of the earth and leather you mention above. All in all a very good bottle to celebrate his 40th birthday. Followed up with a 1983 Chat Leoville Barton that also showed very well!

Opened bottle and let sit in cellar for a couple of hrs. Been wanting to try this and it did not disappoint! I didn't initially get much on the nose and probably should have decanted just before serving. The wine has a wonderfully deep full flavor with some tannins. This just kept getting better in the glass. Did drink like an old world Bdx. But I really love this 100% Cab from the DeBrul vineyard. Thx to Chris for the introduction to this great wine!

5/14/14, 5:56 PM - Chris, drank this head to head against a 2009 Keenan cab which is in a similar price range and the a JB neufield blew it away!

I knew full well that I was opening this wine too early, but I couldn't resist. This is actually drinking quite well, especially if you decant for two hours or so in advance. This is a thin-bodied wine in style, but it has a gripping mix of acidic fruit (cranberry that develops into blackberry with air) and more savory elements (stone, sea water, forest floor, even 5-spice after several hours of air). I loved watching this wine develop in the glass; it just got better and better. It was a shame to drink the last sip.

We shared this wine with friends at a wine auction fundraising event and it was one of the stars of the show. Sadly, we did not have a decanter, and it was a Magnum, but even straight from the bottle it was fabulous. Had it been decanted I am sure it would have benefited. With time in the glass it blossomed with bright fruits and an earthen dank ness. In the mouth it was velvety smooth juice.
  • KCBrian commented:

2/9/14, 2:52 PM - Thanks for you note. I am opening a magnum this coming Tuesday for a dinner party. Bought from winebid and the bottles is pristine. I will decant for an hour and check. Hope ours drinks as lovely as yours!

So young! Knew this was baby killing, but the bottle was handy, was having dinner with my Physicist buddy, and wanted to bring a nice bottle.

Awesome juice Billo and Pinto! Tight as heck for 90 min, started opening up to that lovely DuBrul fruit, was so well balanced. Gave a sample to the Morton's Somm who was quite impressed, waived corkage and came back for more.

Don't open with less than 2 hours air, probably better in 4-8 years or with a half day decant...

Very different from the last bottle opened about 6 months past. The wine is really showing it cab Franc now, with dark cherries, black currant, forest earth and a touch of greener vegetal that makes you notice the CF. Nice but present tannins and acid keep this wine alive. Looks like it could be in its prime within another years or so, but no reason to wait.

My first FM wine and I loved it! I sort of have a Right Bank slant to my tastes so I was excited to open this bottle. Decanted and allowed to breathe for about 1.5 hrs. This wine is very dark in the glass with a lovely rich color. The nose is dominated by dark stone fruit and bramble. It is still a bit tight.......but I wanted to try before I ordered more! Very drinkable right now but will definately be better with a few more years. Tannins are ever present but there is good acidity along and it is not hot with alcohol. Very fruit foward in the taste but not a fruit bomb. Paired with 14 day old dry aged ribeye steaks. Perfect. Am looking foward to Day 2 with the other half bottle tonight.

This bottle continues my love / hate relationship with booker wines. Decanted this wine for about 3 hrs and it was still closed ans very alcoholic. Continued to drink over an hr with hope that it would get better and it didn't. Last bottle of booker I decanted for the same time and it was wonderful. Any thoughts or advice?
  • KCBrian commented:

8/7/13, 3:57 PM - Guys, thanks for advice. The last bottle I opened was a 2010 Oublie and I thought it was stunning! I will definitely decant longer in the cellar and bring out, cool, just before serving. I will definitely continue to try my booker wines.
