Cherry and tapenade on the nose. On the palate, blackberry, olive tapenade, raspberry, and notes of black pepper and earthy spice on the medium to long finish, with moderate tannins and good acidity. This was drunk alongside a bottle of Vieux Donjon that was noticeably superior; however, this was still a good value at about $65. It is still young, and it should improve with age. Decanting might have helped, but this was opened for guests and there wasn't time for that.

Fresh fruit, subtle minerality, light acidity, great length on the finish with some salinity - delightful chardonnay with food, and good value.

Really enjoyable after a decant. Not a Pop & Pour as it was disjointed after opening. But at 10 yrs it still has a lot of fruit and lovely finish. Sadly my 2 adult sons and a friend drank most of it while my wife and I were cooking. (Note to self: access control!)

I love Grenache but this has a way of missing on several fronts after a decent hold with good cellaring. The 2014 harvest in eastern WA was strong on many fronts but this wine is flat and disjointed. Muddy hue, skunky finish and fruit that feels buried in a cistern. Love the concept of this wine but the execution is a serious whiff.
  • cincybt commented:

3/20/22, 4:10 PM - Tried this again 6 mos later. As a lover of Rhône varietals and WA wines, no change to prior comments. A rare drain pour.

2012 feels incredibly young, after 2 hours the tannins and acid begin to calm down, red berries in form of cherries and raspberries, some rosehips, cigars and spice. This wine screams for some kind of resistance, above all it needs more time in the cellar. Drink or hold.

Promising, but too young. Need time to open up. Full body wine.
  • cincybt commented:

3/6/22, 2:24 PM - If you drink a classic Prio too soon, post that you’re drinking it too early, and then give it an 89, the wine may have been slighted. Clos Erasmus only begins to express after 7 yrs in the cellar, in my humble opinion.

For $30 or so, a steal. A rock star table wine that holds up to the standards of a wkd feast. My (adult) children loved this wine, especially in that they can afford it. Raspberry with a nice earthiness. Tasted brighter than I expected given the dark color, but a winner by all accounts.
  • cincybt commented:

11/30/21, 1:08 PM - Will do, and we enjoy Zephirine too. 👍

Red
2016 Saxum Bone Rock James Berry Vineyard Paso Robles Willow Creek District Syrah Blend, Syrah
Can’t rate this at this point. I opened this way to early and immediately had regret. In your face tannins that made it hard to drink, huge nose of blackberry, boysenberry, licorice, anise, black cherry, cinnamon and nutmeg. It got better with a couple hours in a decanter and running it through an aerator at least 4 times... Hold off for 3-5 years to try this bad boy, it shows promise of the high rating it received, but it’s not there yet.
  • cincybt commented:

8/25/21, 1:38 PM - Yep, all the elements of excellence are there, but it's not ready yet. Some Saxum wines are quaffable young. This is not one of them.

First bottle from this purchase, I had tried this at a tasting in Oregon a few years ago (another vintage) and liked it. PnP, drank 1/2 bottle first night and finished the second.

Medium/light ruby color. Nose showing bright red fruits, rose petal and earth. Lithe palate, cherry, blue fruits, mineral and vanilla. Smooth plate, nice energy and persistence. Medium weight, medium/light finish.

Nice wine, ready now, showed well on this evening. For sure the Drouhin estate wines are better...this is intended to be a quality entry level wine. Stylistically more restrained, you aren't getting the big Oregon cherry cola/red licorice notes and the wine is thinner than the higher end wines...That said, I paid ~$29, for that price it delivers...

A rare Denner dud. Chalking this up to bottle variance or chain of custody issues, as I bought this and did not cellar.

Still feel like I’m robbing the cradle as this shows signs of aging well, but a beautiful expression of young Sangiovese that pairs with so many great Italian mid-continental dishes. Perfect to share with family but love it myself. CCR done exceedingly well.

This was a gift and certainly this is a well made wine albeit in a style me and my wife don’t favor. Dark fruits and oak, powerful, touch of heat. Certainly aims to be a bold and showy wine and delivers that.

Drinking beautifully, and even a smidge young. Developed nicely over the course of a couple hours. Don't be in a rush on this one if you're cellaring properly - and enjoy!
  • cincybt commented:

8/16/20, 4:47 PM - I posted in July, so hard say - but I'd bet you're good for at least another couple years, as long as you're cellaring it well. Cheers! And enjoy...

fairly developed yellow/gold; on the nose lavas leaf, black olives and a hint of flor Savagnin nuttiness; but tasting it is something different indeed, racy and acidity driven but embedded in a wonderful extract and mineral driven earthiness, very ripe citrus, very tight and high strung but relaxed at once, impeccable balance, remarkable. Ends on flor nuttiness.

Interesting eucalyptus elements on the nose with fruit being surprisingly shy, but it drank beautifully with stunning mouthfeel and a lasting finish that came in waves. An epic wine.

A bit surprised at how well this held up. I was assuming it would be well passed its prime.

Cork was nearly gone was not comprised and had done its job admirably.

Color was just barely getting some hint of bricking. Had more fruit on the nose than expected.

Wish I had more. If you happen to still have one that has been properly cellared you will be pleased if you drink it now. It would even be better if you share it with a trusted CellarTracker note writer. ;-)

Double decanted. Lovely nose of red fruits and flower and herb. Cherry, a bit of leather, earth notes on a very well integrated palate. Smooth tannins. excellent acidity. A really harmonious wine that is just entering its teenage years. Sprightly, great with food, vibrant on its own. Great winemaking, this is excellent now and looks to improve with time.

Just. Simply. Amazing. Went toe to toe with an older vintage Chateau Margaux and actually bested. Trusting beauty to rise from ashes after the horrible Napa fire.
